Chronic treatment with various drugs reduced the increase in arterial blood pressure, the ventricular hypertrophy and the thickening of pulmonary arterial and arteriolar walls.
The intracarotidal injection of some bet-adrenergic blocking agents (dl-acebutolol, dl-, l-, d-alprenolol, dl-bunitrolol, dl-buthoxamine, dl-, l-, d-INPEA, dl-Ko 592, dl-metoprolol, dl-oxprenolol, dl-propranolol, dl-tolamolol) in anesthetized and bivagotomized dogs reduced the arterial blood pressure and the baro- and chemoreceptor activity. These effects seem to be mediated by an interaction with central nervous, cardiovascular and respiratory structures dependent on the carotid arteries and by a direct interference of these drugs with the carotid sinus baro- and chemoreceptor structures. Moreover, these effects were not a result of the beta-adrenolytic properties of the drugs.
In the rat, narcotic doses of Althesin injected intraperitoneally did not modify blood glucose concentration nor plasma insulin concentration. On the contrary, a reduction of blood glucose concentration, associated with an increase of plasma insulin concentration was observed when narcotic doses of thiopental and ketamine were administered. Plasma renin concentrations decreased after injection of Althesin and thiopental but increased after injection of ketamine.
The genetic control of spontaneous resistance in vivo to increasing doses of a poorly immunogenic spontaneous adenocarcinoma (ADK-1t) of BALB/c origin was studied in F1 hybrid mice. The spontaneous resistance of homozygous parental BALB/c mice was not increased in F1 hybrids of BALB/c and BALB.B or BALB.K mice, even with small tumor challenges (10(3) cells). By contrast, it was significantly enhanced in F1 hybrids of BALB/c and several strains on A or B10 background. Resistance due to the acquisition of a new set of background genes was, however, markedly enhanced or suppressed by the presence of particular alleles located within or closely linked to the H-2 complex, as demonstrated by increasing the tumor challenge to 10(4) or 10 (5) cells. Spontaneous resistance, effective even with high tumor inocula, thus depended on a complex interplay between background and H-2 genes.

A series of imidazo[1,2-a]pyrimidine-, imidazo[1,2-c]pyrimidine- and imidazo[1,2-b]pyridazinecarboxamides and acetamides were prepared and their antiinflammatory, analgesic, antipyretic and ulcerogenic activities were evaluated.

A series of N,N-dialkyl 5-trans-carbamoyloxy-1,2,3,3-tetramethyl-2-azabicyclo [2,2,2]octanes was prepared by reaction of 1,2,3,3-tetramethyl-2-azabicyclo [2,2,2]octan-5-trans-ol with phosgene, followed by aminolysis of the resulting chlorocarbonate with aliphatic secondary amines. 5-Chloro-1,2,3,3-tetramethyl-2-azabicyclo [2,2,2] octane (cis/trans mixture) was isolated as by-product of the reaction. A number of urethanes showed antiarrhythmic activity in guinea pigs and mice, as well as surface anesthesia in rabbits and infiltration anesthesia in mice, superior or similar to lidocaine. The circulatory, cardiac and respiratory effects in dogs and hens are also described.

An experimental comparative study has been undertaken to evaluate the action of salmefamol and salbutamol, two sympathomimetic drugs specific for the beta-receptors, on tracheal and bronchial smooth muscles. Salmefamol showed a more intense, longer-lasting beta-adrenergic activity than salbutamol did.
