Intoxication with ethanol and acetaldehyde resulted in a marked increase of the acid proteolytic activity in the post-lysosomal supernatant of rat kidney, lung, and liver, while the content of protein and acid-soluble tyrosine remained practically unchanged. Proteins of the post-lysosomal supernatant were degraded in vitro by the endogenous proteinase(s) of lysosomal origin at pH 3.5 and 5.5 but not at pH 7.0.
It was shown that increased antiheparin activity of the blood plasma of women in labour is evoked by increased level of low density lipoproteids (LDL). This activity does not depend on changes neither of the level of other compounds neutralizing heparin (fibrinogen, acid alpha 1-glycoproteid, globulins, basic proteins) nor conditioning its action (antithrombin-III). The intensity of antiheparin action of LDL increases in the presence of calcium ions.

Cathepsin D activity and the content of proteins and acid-soluble tyrosine in the walls of varicose veins, thrombophlebitic varicose veins and normal saphenous veins were determined. It was found that the cathepsin D activity in the wall of varicose veins is almost 1.5 times as high as that activity in a thrombophlebitic varicose vein wall and more than 3 times higher than in the wall of a normal vein. The acid-soluble tyrosine content of the varicose vein was slightly higher than that of the normal vein, whereas the content of the thrombophlebitic varicose vein was more than 1.5 times as high as that of the normal vein. Cathepsin D has a destructive effect on the varicose vein wall and accelerates the removal of thrombi in varicophlebitis.

The aim of the studies was to determine the content of certain components of the haemostatic system in the neointima of a polyester graft implanted in the dog abdominal aorta over a 7-day period of observation. The neointima of an aortic polyester graft in the early postoperative period possesses a high thromboplastic activity, greater than that of the artery or vein, and containing prothrombin, active thrombin, platelet aggregating substances and heparin neutralizing substances. The plasminogen activator activity in the neointima of the polyester graft is also considerably higher than in the intima of arteries and veins.
