[Theory of functional systems and integrative physiology].

The paper postulates that the theory of functional systems proposed by P. K. Anokhin has given an impetus to the understanding of the body's integrative activities. The functional systems are shown to be units of the activities. Individual functional systems in their characteristic processes of self-organization and self-regulation, hierarchic, multi parametric and consecutive interactions of the body's functional systems have integrative properties. The theory of functional systems have disclosed many unknown brain integrative properties: the specificity of ascending activating influences of subcortical formations on the cortex, various patterns of excitation convergence on cortical neurons, the specific features of chemical postsynaptic processes that are characteristic of each functional system. Particular emphasis is laid on the informational mechanisms of the integrative activities of functional systems.

[Hypnotic effect in individuals with varying degree of suggestibility].

The paper presents the results of the investigation concerning time and space organization of brain cortex electric activity and peculiarities of autonomic regulation of cardiac functions in 19 healthy individuals, which had a pronounced intention to counteract of hypnotic influence. Taking into consideration the reactions to hypnosis, these individuals were divided into three groups: predisposed to hypnotic suggestion, sensitive (intermediate group) and resistant to hypnotic suggestion. In predisposed individuals there were more pronounced sympathetic influences on cardiac functions and less spectral power of all EEG rhythms, except beta 2-rhythm. In individuals resistant to hypnotic suggestion there was more pronounced alpha-rhythm in brain cortex, while sympathetic influences on the cardiac functions were not so pronounced. All individuals reacted to hypnotic suggestion by a decreasing of the representation of alpha-rhythm and by diminishing initial interhemispheric asymmetry. However, a share of beta-rhythm was increased in predisposed individuals and of theta-rhythm in resistant individuals. In posthypnotic state in resistant persons the correlations of initial EEG rhythms were completely recovered, while in the individuals from the other groups a recovery was observed only in separate EEG frequencies.

[Systemic organization of brain functions: key role of results action acceptor].

The paper presents general principles of organization of human psychic functions on the basis of P.K.Anokhin's theory of functional systems. The peculiarities of forming psychic activity are analyzed on the information basis of systemic activity of brain. The key role in management of psychic activity belongs to foreseeing of required results, i.e. the acceptor of action's results. Holographic and molecular mechanisms of forming informative engram of acceptor of action's results are considered.

[Mechanisms of resistance to emotional stress: advantages of individual approach].

cal concern for widespread averaged approach to studying various stress indices is presented. The author demonstrates that the subjects predisposed and resistant to different physiological dysfunctions and survival are revealed in a great variety of experimental models and experiments. The animals resistant and predisposed to emotional stress are shown to present different behavior, autonomic reactions, varying rates of c-fos gene expression in the brain, different levels of catecholamines and oligopeptides in the brain structures. Specific chemical integration of neurons in the limbic-reticular brain structures determines animal resistance to emotional stress.

[Systems evaluation of physiological functions of humans at a workplace].

The paper gives experimental findings of the application of the Anokhin theory of functional systems to the evaluation of human physiological functions in a working place. It is shown that the correlations of the heart and respiration rates with the effective productive activity quanta may characterize the specific features of autonomic regulation in workers and objectively suggest the occurrence of their psychoemotional stress in their working place. Disintegrated autonomic correlations in the productive activity quanta reflects impaired multicomponent interactions of homeostatic functional parameters, by ultimately causing an abnormality.

[Emotional stress and blood melatonin levels].

Blood serum melatonin concentrations were measured in male Wistar rats exposed to acute water-immersion emotional stress (ES) during intraperitoneal injections of physiological saline or different doses of melatonin. ES increased blood melatonin levels in rats receiving physiological saline 1 hour before or just after ES. When physiological saline was administered just ES, blood melatonin concentrations remained unchanged. The blood levels of melatonin both in control and stressed animals injected with exogenous melatonin were higher than those in rats given physiological saline alone. Immersion ES decreased blood melatonin concentrations in rats receiving different exogenous melatonin doses just before ES. However, in rats given melatonin, 1.0 mg/kg, after ES, its blood levels after ES was higher than those in the animals unexposed to stress. The findings suggest that it is just exogenous rather than endogenous melatonin that is consumed in rats injected with its different doses just prior to immersion ES.

Effects of acute emotional stress on the brain and autonomic variables.

Under emotional stress (ES) the brain limbic-reticular structures are shown to change first. The integrative interaction of brain structures determines the secondary changes of cardiovascular functions. The effects of ES on autonomic functions are mediated primarily by chemical changes of brain limbic-reticular neurons to neurotransmitters and oligopeptides. Genetic and individual cardiovascular disorders under ES have been demonstrated. Mechanisms of sustained arterial blood hypertension under experimental ES are considered. It has been established that the resistance to ES is strongly dependent on the basic levels of oligopeptides and norepinephrine in the hypothalamus. Additional injections of oligopeptides enhance the resistance to ES.

[Information properties of functional systems: theoretical aspects].

Information resonance properties of functional systems of different organization levels. The formulated concept states that the dynamic architectonics of functional systems, based on a holographic principle, includes a special kind of an information screen which serves as an apparatus for estimation of the status, which is useful for the body. The hypothesis suggests that the information screen is molecularly represented by membranes, enzymes, and liquid crystals--by DNA and RNA molecules, as well as homeostatically by colloids and biologically active information molecules of connective tissues; cerebrally by glial colloids, DNA and RNA molecules of neurones which form the acceptor of action results apparatus of different functional systems. The idea of information screens of functional systems at the population levels and of human population interaction with space phenomena is formulated.

[The action of a modulated electromagnetic field on the emotional component of the systemic organization of behavioral acts in rats].

Experimental findings are reviewed in respect to the effect of modulated electromagnetic field (MEMF) upon emotional responses of rats accompanying various phases of systemic organisation of their behaviour. Blocking effects of the MEMF are shown in simulated self-stimulation and various conditioned types of behaviour in rats. In author's opinion, the MEMF affect the informative component of behaviour: emotions.
