[Thrombocyte changes in electrically induced experimental thrombosis].

The influence of the function of the thrombocytes after electrical thrombosis induction by means of anodic direct current was investigated in 39 mongrel dogs. The platelet factor 3, the rotation thromboelastography, and the collagen induced thrombocytes aggregation in the optical test by Born was examined. The platelet factor 3 adhering on the thrombocytes decreased from 95% to 49% in the course of the thrombosis induction. Its activity was provable by means of the rotation thrombelastogram in the plasma. Besides of it the electrical field caused an activation of the thrombocytes which corresponds to a contact activation on foreign body surfaces. The collagen induced aggregation ability of the thrombocytes remains unaffected after the passage of the electrical field.

[Significance of blood flow in electrically induced thrombosis].

The thrombosis in dependence on the stream velocity in the electrically induced thrombosis was investigated by blood flow measurements in the femoral artery in 16 mongrel dogs. Thromboses were shown histologically in all 16 animals. 8 of them did not obturate. Obturating thromboses were produced with the application of anodic direct current of 1 mA during 60 minutes only with a blood stream velocity between 0.0465 and 0.0928 m/s. Not any obturating thrombosis was visible outside of this range.

[Electro-thrombosis -- an alternative to embolisation using particles (author's transl)].

The use of a suitable direct current applied to a vessel wall by an electrode results in the formation of a thrombus. Firm contact between the intravascular anode and the endothelium is necessary to obtain a strictly localised thrombus. The use of a direct current of 10 to 30 mA. for a period of 15 minutes results in the certain thrombotic occlusion of an artery of 5 mm. diameter. The method is an effective alternative to vascular embolisation used as a preoperative or palliative procedure. Animal experiments and our own clinical experience are described and discussed.

[Anatomic and hemodynamic study of A. testicularis in the dog and miniswine].

The anatomic variants in course and origin of the vasa testicularis were exhibited in 14 dogs and 8 minipigs by means of angiography and vascular surgical preparation. Variations to the human anatomy were not evident. Hemodynamic measurements and angiographic investigations are indispensable to the experimental medicine or to the micro-vascular surgery of the masculine gonads.

[Electrothrombosis as a treatment measure].

The endovasalic transcatheteral occlusion of arteries which provide tumors or acute bleedings is a commonly accepted therapeutic method. Hereby applied thrombogenic substances are again disintegrated frequently by means of endogenous fibrinolysis. The intravascular application of electrically direct current leads to a closing thrombosis. Its pathomorphologic basis is a lesion of the intima. A decomposition of these thrombi is not possible, because of the own endogenous fibrinolysis. Experimental therapeutic experiences with the electrothrombosis were represented and their preferences in face of the embolisation method.

[An experimental animal model of aortic coarctation].

There was developed a model of animal experiments for clearing up some questions in connection with the Coarctation aortae (for instance hypertension in the postoperative phase, hypertrophy in the left chamber of the heart and protection of myocardium during the operation). Stripes and ligatures of the aorta create a substrate deviating from the human disease. We put up a model of animal experiments in which the stenosis is produced by means of the extravascular application of electrical direct current of anodic polarization. The employment of direct current guarantees an extensive standardization and reproduction of experimental methodology.

[Arterialization of the coronary veins as a therapeutic measure in acute myocardial ischemia. I. Experimental studies and morphology in miniswine].

Mortality and morbidity of the acute myocardial infarction show an increasing tendency. The therapy, on the other hand, is not much satisfying yet. A myocardial ischemia was produced in 48 minipigs by ligature of the ramus interventricularis anterior of the left coronary artery. Its satellite vein was arterialised by means of plastic shunt. The majority of the animals of the control group without arterialisation did not survive. Electron microscopical controls showed only minimal damages of the ultrastructures in animals after arterialisation of the coronary veins.

Acute Disease↗

[Arterialization of the coronary veins as a therapeutic measure in acute myocardial ischemia. Experimental studies on the miniswine. II. Cardiothermography and intramyocardial oxygen tension].

The arterialisation of the coronary veins leads in the acute phase of myocardial ischemia to an effective circulation in the telethermographic picture. The oxygen tension in the tissue increases to 46% of the normal tissue tension in this way. The sinusoids have a nutritive function likely. Although the greatest amount of the blood supplied was drained before becoming metabolised a myocardial necrosis was prevented.

[Experimental model of isolated arterial stenosis].

The production of an arterial stenosis in an experiment is performed mainly by means of starvation ligatures or constrictors. In this way the produced stenosis does not allow to exercise reconstructive surgical interventions during the training in the angio-surgery. We produced the model of an isolated arterial stenosis by means of an anodic direct current in extravascular application. The stenosis was demonstrated by angiography and measurement of the blood flow. Measurements of the oxygen tension in the femoral artery and vein showed a decrease of the values after producing the stenosis. This method makes it possible to carry out a training of any kind of reconstructive interventions.

[Vascular injuries caused by electric direct current in experimental thrombosis models].

The eventual causes of the lesion of the vascular wall through electric direct current (D. C.) in experimental artificial thrombosis are discussed by means of microscopic investigations by electron microscope and light microscope in altogether 73 mongrel dogs and 14 mini pigs. No thermic lesions of the vascular wall were observed in the coronary thrombosis pattern on the closed thorax by means of 1 mA amperage and an induction time of 60 minutes. Secondary processes for cell lesions are to be made responsible in which the electrolysis on the cell membrane and the influence of functional ranges in the artery wall play an important part.

[The reaction of some enzymatic and coagulative physiologic parameters after electrically induced thrombosis in the arterial vascular system in dog and pygmy pig].

Changes of enzyme and coagulation parameters were observed after electrically induced thrombosis in the arterial vascular system. These changes where only significant if the thrombosis was induced in the coronary arteries and a myocardial infarction was following. On the contrary anodic direct current (D. C. 10 mA about 15 minutes) in the femoral artery of dog or pygmy pig did not produce any significant changes of the examined parameters.

[A non-operative method for induction of artery thrombosis by means of electrically direct current in big arteries in dog].

The most methods for induction of an experimental arterial thrombosis needs an operative procedure. A method for non-operative induction of thrombosis in peripheric big arteries is presented in this contribution. The technique is endovasal and transcatheteral. The contact of the endovasal electrode with the arterial intima has to be guaranteed for a certain thrombosis. A particularly constructed electrode for application of direct current in big arteries is presented to the realization of this demand.
