Influence factors for functional improvement after olfactory ensheathing cell transplantation for chronic spinal cord injury.

OBJECTIVE: To explore the influence factors for the functional improvement after the fetal olfactory ensheathing cell (OEC) transplantation for chronic spinal cord injury(SCI). METHODS: The olfactory bulbs were harvested and trypsinized down to single fetal OEC. They were cultured for 12-17 days prepared for use. From November 2001 to December 2003, a total of 300 patients volunteered for the fetal OEC transplantation, among whom 222 suffered from complete chronic SCI and 78 suffered from incomplete chronic SCI. The procedures were performed on the patients with a disease course ranging from 6 months to 31 years (average 3.1 years) after their injuries. The fetal OEC was transplanted by the form of injections into the spinal cord at the upper and lower ends of the injury site. All the patients were assessed by the ASIA standard before the transplantation and 2-8 weeks after the transplantation. The influence factors including age, sex, duration after the injury, and injury degrees and levels were compared with those in the functional improvement after fetal OEC transplantation. RESULTS: The partially-improved neurological functions assessed by the ASIA standard were indicated by the motor scores increasing from 39.1 +/- 20.6 to 45.9 +/- 20.3 (P < 0.001), the light touch scores from 51.7 +/- 24.9 to 63.4 +/- 23.0 (P < 0.001), and the pin prick scores from 53.0 +/- 24.2 to 65.3 +/- 22.7 (P < 0.001). There was no significant difference in the functional improvement of the motor, light touch, and pin brick when compared with the age, sex, duration after the injury, and the injury degrees and levels. The motor scores and light touch scores at the cervical level were higher than the scores at the thoracic level. CONCLUSION: The fetal OEC transplantation can partially improve the neurological functions quickly in treatment of the chronic spinal cord injury. All the influence factors except the motor scores and light touch scores, which were higher at the cervical level than at thoracic level, have no impact on the functional improvement after the fetal OEC transplantation.

Safety of fetal olfactory ensheathing cell transplantation in patients with chronic spinal cord injury. A 38-month follow-up with MRI.

OBJECTIVE: To determine the safety of the fetal olfactory ensheathing cell (OEC) transplantation in patients with chronic spinal cord injury (SCI) by examination of the magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). METHODS: A prospective clinical study involving 16 patients with chronic SCI was designed to investigate the feasibility and biological safety of the fetal OEC transplantation in treatment of SCI. The olfactory bulbs from the 3-4-month-old aborted human fetuses following the strict ethical guidelines were harvested and trypsinized down to single fetal OEC. These cells were then cultured for 12-17 days and were prepared for a clinical use. From November 2001 to December 2002, 16 patients with chronic SCI were randomly enrolled. The patients suffered from SCI for 1.5-8 years (average 4.3 years) after the injury. The suspension (50 microl) containing about 1 x 10(6) fetal OECs was transplanted by an injection into the patients' spinal cords above and below the injury site. All the patients were assessed before the transplantation and were followed up with MRI for 29-42 months (average 38 mon) after the transplantation. RESULTS: No cell-related adverse effects were observed in any patient during the follow-up period. The follow-up with MRI did not reveal any development of optic glial tumor, tumor-like mass, new hemorrhage, edema, expanding cyst, new cyst formation, infection or disruption of the neural structure in the transplant site of all the patients. CONCLUSION: This is the first clinical study demonstrating the long-term safety of the OEC therapy for SCI. The results indicate that our protocol is feasible and safe in treatment of patients with chronic SCI within 38 months after the injury. Although the size of the samples for our study was not big enough, the positive results of the study have encouraged us to make a further research in this field.

[Retrospective study on 116 unexpected sudden cardiac deaths in Yunnan, China].

OBJECTIVE: To identify the epidemiological and clinical features of unexpected sudden cardiac deaths (SUD) in Yunnan. METHODS: Choosing the old SUD cases from Xiangyun, Heqing, Nanjian and Dayao counties and using the standardized verbal autopsy Form, we interviewed the family members of the cases, witnesses and doctors as well as reviewing their medical files to get relative information. RESULTS: We identified 116 SUDs in 21 villages from 1984 to 2004. The village-specific annually standardized incidence rates were ranged from 0.2/1000 to 8.9/1000 (median = 0.8/1000). 66% and 29% of the SUDs occurred in July and August respectively. The incidence rates of SUD were higher (1.6/1000, chi(2) = 16, P < 0.01) in 10 - 39 year-olds, and higher in females than in males (RR = 1.6, 95% CI: 1.1 - 2.3). Seventy percent of SUD occurred in families having clustering nature and 60% of the additional cases in the family were occurred within 24 hours (median = 20 hours) after the first SUD identified in the family. SUD occurred in 23 families followed the first affected family in a village during the same season. In these 23 families, 61% of the first SUD occurred within 8 days after the first SUD in the first affected family. 68% and 66% of the SUDs did not have any complaints or signs during the last 3 weeks or from 3 weeks to 2 days prior to the onset of the disease. 63% of the SUDs had cardiac symptoms within the last 2 days prior to the onset with major symptoms as dizziness, nausea, faintness, unconsciousness, weakness and palpitation. The median duration from acute onset to death was 2 hours. CONCLUSIONS: The extreme time-space clustering of SUD in families and in villages suggested that the risk factors occurred in specific time and location. Familial clustered SUD cases had common exposure pattern. Sudden onset of acute cardiac symptoms often followed by sudden death. Epidemiological study on new cases was necessary to identify risk factors and to develop hypothesis for causation. In July 2005, we instituted a special SUD surveillance system for all the affected counties together with 10 counties which had no reported cases.

[Study on the correlations between HBsAg and hepatitis C virus expression as well as fibrotic staging in hepatocellular carcinoma and pericarcinomatous tissues].

OBJECTIVE: To study the correlation between hepatitis B virus surface antigen (HBsAg) and hepatitis C virus (HCV) expression as well as fibrosis staging in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and pericarcinomatous tissues. METHODS: The patterns of HBsAg and HCV in 100 cases of HCC and their surrounding liver tissues were studied on paraffin-embeded sections with immunohistochemistry technique, and liver tissues were also staged. RESULTS: HBV, HCV virus infection were positively correlated with the fibrotic staging (r(s) = 0.32, P = 0.001). HBsAg and HCV were detected both in HCC and pericarcinomatous tissues. The positive rate of HBsAg in Pericarcinomatous Tissues (79%) was higher than that of in HCC tissues (23%). HCV expressions in HCC (15%) and pericarcinomatous tissues (23%) showed no significant differences. CONCLUSION: The fibrotic degree in the tissues of liver cancer with previous virus infection was obviously higher than that without virus infection. Viral infection seemed to be one of the reasons causing liver cancer while perennial virusemia would aggravate pathological changes of the liver tissue.

[Effective autologous bone marrow stem cell dosage for treatment of severe lower limb ischemia].

OBJECTIVE: To explore the effective autologous bone marrow stem cell dosage for treatment of severe lower limb ischemia. METHODS: From December 2003 to December 2004, 22 cases of bilateral lower limb ischemia were treated with autologous bone marrow cell transplantation. All the patients were randomly divided into two groups according to ischemia degree. In group A (severe ischemia side), the amount of transplanted autologous bone marrow cells was more than 1 X 10(8), and in group B (mild ischemia side), the amount was less than 1 X 10(5). A series of subjective indexes, such as improvement of pain, cold sensation and numbness, and objective indexes, such as increase of ankle/brachial index (ABI) and transcutaneous oxygen pressure (TcPO2), angiography, amputation rate, and improvement of foot wound healing were used to evaluate the effect of autologous bone marrow stem cells implantation. RESULTS: The rates of pain relief were 90.0% in group A and 16.7% in group B (P<0.01); the rates of cold sensation relief were 90. 5% in group A and 5.3% in group B (P<0.01); the improvement of numbness was 62.5% in group A and 9. 1% in group B (P<0. 01). Increase of ABI was 31.8% and 0 in groups A and B respectively (P<0.01) at 4 weeks after implantation. Increase of TcPO2 was 94.4% and 11.1% in groups A and B respectively (P<0.01) at 4 weeks after implantation. Twelve cases of angiography showed rich new collateral vessels in 100% of the limbs in group A while no remarkable new collateral vessel in group B. The amputation rates were 4.5% in group A and 27.3% in group B (P<0.05) at 4 weeks after implantation. The rate of improvement of foot wound healing was 75% in group A and there was no change in wound healing in group B after 4 weeks of implantation. CONCLUSION: The effectiveness of autologous bone marrow stem cell implantation depends on the number of implanted stem cells. Effectiveness is expected in most patients if the implanted stem cell is more than 1 X 10(8), whereas there would be little effect if the cell number is less than 1 X 10(5).

[Determination of the activity of cytochrome P-450 CYP2A6 by HPLC method with caffeine as metabolizing probe].

AIM: To establish a HPLC method for determining five major metabolites of caffeine in the urine, 5-acetylamino-6-formylamino-3-methyluracil (AFMU), 1-methylxanthine (1X), 1-methyluric acid (1U), 1,7-dimethyluric acid (17U) and 1,7-dimethylxanthine (17X) and assess the activity of cytochrome P-450 CYP2A6. METHODS: The contents of five major metabolites of caffeine in the urine were determined by RP-HPLC method. Frequency distribution histogram was drawn by calculating the 17U/(AFMU + 1X + 1U + 17X + 17U) and then evaluated the activity of CYP2A6. RESULTS: The frequency distribution histograms of CYP2A6 approximately indicated three distinct groups, the cut of point is 0.23 between fast metabolizer and intermediate type. And the cut of point is 0.15 between slow metabolizer and intermediate type. CONCLUSION: The method is simple and rapid, suitable for the determination of metabolites of caffeine in urine. The method can be used to assay the activity of CYP2A6.

[Association of blood and cerebrospinal fluid IgG contents and severity of craniocerebral injury].

OBJECTIVE: To explore the association of blood and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) IgG contents and the severity of craniocerebral injury. METHODS: Totalling 143 patients with craniocerebral injury were divided into 3 groups according Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS) scores, namely the mild injury group with GCS score of 12-15 (n=41), moderate injury group with GCS score of 9-11 (n=71) and severe injury group (GCS score 3-8, n=32). Another 9 patients with congenital hydrocephalus were also recruited as the control group. The CSF and blood samples were collected from these patients to measure the IgG contents 4 and 14 days and 1, 2, and 6 months after the injury, respectively. Physical disabilities of the patients were estimated with Rappaport's disability rating scale (DRS), whose correlations with CSF and blood IgG contents were analyzed. RESULTS: In the early stage of moderate to severe brain injury, the IgG content was lowered significantly in the blood but increased in CSF as compared with the control patients (P<0.05), and the changes in CSF and blood IgG displayed a significant correlation with the severity of the injury (r=0.950, P<0.01). During the recovery of severe brain injury, DRS score was in inverse correlation with blood IgG content but in positive correlation with CSF IgG content (Spearman's correlation coefficient of 0.800, P<0.05). CONCLUSION: In the early stage of brain injury, detection of blood IgG content may help with the assessment of the injury severity. During the recovery of the injury, dynamic monitoring of blood and CSF IgG contents provides clues of the outcome of the patients and benefit the modification of the treatment plan.

[Serum B-type natriuretic peptide changes in patients with acute myocardial infarction].

OBJECTIVE: To observe the serum B-type natriuretic peptide (BNP) changes post acute myocardial infarction (AMI). METHODS: The serum BNP level was determined in 230 consecutive patients with AMI admitted to CCU and in 111 normal cases from October 2002 to October 2003 in Fuwai Hospital. The 230 AMI patients were further divided into various subgroups according to first or recurrent AMI, ST elevations myocardial infarction (STEMI) or non-ST elevations myocardial infarction (NSTEMI) group, infarction location, coronary arteries involved, infarction related arteries (IRA), TIMI blood flow of IRA and primary PCI or not. Serum BNP, CK-MB, TnT and heart function were analyzed. RESULTS: The serum BNP level was significantly increased in patients with AMI (553.7 +/- 735.1) ng/L than that in normal subjects [(26.4 +/- 27.4) ng/L, P < 0.05]. LVEF was significantly lower, and LVEDd, BNP and LnBNP were all significantly higher in the first time AMI group compared to recurrent AMI group (all P < 0.001). The BNP level were significantly higher in AMI patients with single or triple coronary arteries stenosis than those without coronary stenosis (P < 0.05), in TIMI blood flow 0 - 1 and 2 groups than in TIMI 3 group (all P < 0.001). The CK-MB and TnT were significantly increased while BNP significantly decreased in the patients underwent primary PCI group compared with patients did not receive PCI therapy (all P < 0.05 - 0.001). CONCLUSION: Serum BNP was significantly elevated in patients after AMI but decreased after successful primary PCI in patients with AMI.

[The effects of noninvasive positive pressure ventilation treatment on plasma concentration of amino terminal-pro brain natriuretic peptide in congestive heart failure in patients with sleep apnea].

OBJECTIVE: Sleep apnea (SA) exerts adverse effects in patients with congestive heart failure (CHF). Amino terminal-pro brain natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP) is a useful target of CHF treatment. The purpose of this study was to assess the short-term effect of positive pressure ventilation (PPV) on the plasma concentration of NT-proBNP in patients with both CHF and SA. METHODS: One hundred and five patients diagnosed with CHF participated in the study. Medical history was recorded, and Doppler echocardiography and overnight polysomnography were performed. Seventy-seven patients were diagnosed as having SA. Patients with CHF and SA were randomly assigned to receive medical therapy alone (12 patients) or with the addition of PPV (14 patients) for 2 - 5 days. RESULTS: Plasma NT-proBNP concentration was measured in 77 patients with CHF and SA. The plasma level of NT-proBNP was associated with the severity of CHF. Subjects with higher degree of NYHA class showed higher a level of NT-proBNP. After PPV treatment, the apnea-hypopnea index decreased (P < 0.001), the lowest SaO2 increased (P < 0.001), and the plasma concentration of NT-proBNP decreased as compared to the baseline levels (P < 0.05). CONCLUSION: The plasma levels of NT-proBNP could reflect the severity of CHF, and PPV treatment could decrease the plasma NT-proBNP level in patients with CHF and SA.

[Effects of organophosphorus insecticides on G protein-coupled receptor kinase-2 mediated phosphorylation of M2 muscarinic receptors].

OBJECTIVE: To explore the effect of organophosphorus insecticides (OPs) on G protein-coupled receptor kinase 2 mediated phosphorylation of M2 muscarinic receptors in vitro and to understand an alternative target of the OPs for human and other animals. METHODS: The acetylcholine M2 muscarinic receptors (mAChR2) were purified from rat brain by single step affinity chromatography. In vitro experiments, the purified mAChR2, G-protein coupled receptor kinase 2 (GRK2) and the (gamma-p32) labeled ATP were incubated with paraoxon (PO), chlorpyrifos oxon (CPO) or chlorpyrifos (CPF) of varying concentrations. The proteins were separated by the polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis. The gels were dried and the phosphorylation of mAChR2 was detected with autoradiograms. Bands containing M2 receptor were excised and counted by liquid scintillation. RESULTS: CPO inhibited phosphorylation of M2 muscarinic receptors by GRK2 with a median inhibition concentration (IC(50)) at 70 micromol/L. CPF also inhibited M2 receptors phosphorylation, but was less potent and less efficacious than that of CPO. PO and parathion (PT) had little effect on the receptor phosphorylation under the same conditions. CPO and CPF didn't inhibit the beta2 Adrenalin (beta2-AR) receptor phosphorylation also mediated by GRK2. CONCLUSION: CPO and CPF can selectively inhibit the GRK2 mediated mAChR2 phosphorylation while PO and PT have no this effect.

[Effect of serum autoantibodies against the M2 muscarinic acetylcholine receptors from patients with heart failure on L-Type Ca2+ channel activity in guinea pig cardiac myocytes].

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the effect of serum autoantibodies against the human M(2) muscarinic acetylcholine receptors (M(2)-receptors, Abs) from patients with congestive heart failure on L-Type Ca(2+) channel activity in guinea pig cardiac myocytes. METHOD: Using whole cell patch-clamp technique, we quantitatively measured the ionic intensity and density of L-Type Ca(2+) channel (I(Ca-L)). RESULTS: The M(2)-receptors agonist (carbachol) could decrease the I(Ca-L) peak intensity and density stimulated by isoprenaline from (2111.65 +/- 203.13) pA and (18.83 +/- 1.14) pA/pF to (1230.87 +/- 208.14) pA (P < 0.01) and (10.72 +/- 1.06) pA/pF (P < 0.01). The serum Abs could also decrease I(Ca-L) peak intensity and density [from (1995.21 +/- 195.13) pA and (18.13 +/- 1.03) pA/pF to (636.42 +/- 110.07) pA (P < 0.01) and (5.54 +/- 0.81) pA/pF, P < 0.01]. The M(2)-receptors antagonist, atropine was able to block these effects of carbachol and Abs. CONCLUSIONS: The circulating serum autoantibodies against the M(2)-receptors has similar effect as M(2)-receptors agonist on decreasing the isoprenaline stimulated I(Ca-L) in guinea pig cardiac myocytes and possess negative inotropic effect. These results further suggest that serum autoantibodies against the human M(2) muscarinic acetylcholine receptors may participate in the pathophysiological processes in patients with heart failure.

[Dependence of Ca2+ on the acetylcholine-sensitive current in guinea pig type II vestibular hair cells].

OBJECTIVE: To explore the dependence of Ca2+ on the acetylcholine (ACh)-sensitive potassium current in guinea pig type II vestibular hair cells. METHODS: Under the whole-cell patch mode, the current amplitude of the ACh-sensitive potassium current was recorded in response to the concentration change of the extracellular or intracellular Ca2+. RESULTS: Following application of ACh, type II vestibular hair cells displayed the sustained potassium current, which was inhibited by tetraethylammonium chloride (TEA), but not inhibited by 4-aminopyrine (4-AP). The activation of the ACh-sensitive potassium current was strongly affected by the concentration of the extracellular Ca2+. The current amplitude of the ACh-sensitive potassium increased following the increase of Ca2+ concentration from 0 mmol/L to 4 mmol/L At the concentration of 4 mmol/L Ca2+, the current amplitude of the ACh-sensitive potassium current reached the maximal response. Lowering the Ca2 concentration in the external solution from 4 mmol/L to 0. 5 mmol/L, the current amplitude of the ACh-sensitive potassium current was inhibited to (36.5 +/- 6.5)%. However, no difference was found in the presence and in the absence of the intracellular heparin, which was a well-known blocker of the inositol trisphosphate-dependent calcium release channels. In addition, the calcium channel blocker, Cd2+, inhibited the ACh-sensitive potassium current. CONCLUSIONS: The activation of the ACh-sensitive potassium current in guinea pig type II vestibular hair cells was dependent on the extracellular Ca2+ influx through the calcium channel. The application of ACh would stimulate membrane Ca2+ channels; the influx of Ca2+ will then activate the calcium-dependent potassium current in guinea pig type II hair cells to mediate the hyperpolarization effect.

[Expression profile in the cell lines of human TNFAIP1 gene].

TNFAIP1 was first identified as a tumor necrosis factor alpha(TNFalpha) and interleukin-6 (IL-6) inducible protein. Experiments on human and rat suggested the protein may play roles in the DNA repair, DNA synthesis, cell apoptosis and human diseases. But its real function and mechanism have not been reported. In this paper, the expression of TNFAIP1 were determined in a number of cell lines by Real-time PCR. We found that the expression levels of TNFAIP1 are high in COS7 and NIH3T3 cell lines but low in the cancer cell lines. These suggest that TNFAIP1 may be involved in the process of cancer. The over-expression of human TNFAIP1 can accelerate the apoptosis of HeLa cell.

Is there any difference in anesthetic management of different post-OLT stage patients undergoing nontransplant organ surgery?

BACKGROUND: Little information is available about anesthesia management of nontransplant organ surgery of recipients after adult liver transplantation. The aim of this study was to discuss the anesthesia management of recipients for different stages after liver transplantation. METHODS: The medical records of 16 patients were reviewed after OLT scheduled for elective nontransplant organ surgery at our institution from September 2002 to October 2005. The patients were divided into perioperative stage (group A) and mid-term and long-term stage (group B) groups according to post-OLT time. The data of 16 patients preoperation, intraoperation and postoperation were analyzed. RESULTS: The measurements of alanine transaminase (ALT), total bilirubin (TB), prothrombin time (PT), and lung infection were significantly higher in group A than in group B (P<0.05). The incidence of hyperglycaemia was significantly higher in group B than in group A (P<0.05). During operation the incidence of hypotension was significantly higher in group A than in group B (P<0.05). After operation, the number of patients in ICU was significantly larger and the extubation time was longer in group A than in group B. General anesthesia was induced in 14 patients, and regional anesthesia in 2 patients. CONCLUSIONS: Regional or general anesthesia can be safely delivered to adult OLT recipients except for contraindications. Special considerations include protection of the function of important organs, correction of hemodynamic instability in perioperative stage patients after OLT, and measurement of the side-effects of immunosuppression in mid-term and long-term stage patients.

[Measurement of IL-12 and IL-18 in sera of patients with autoimmune thyroid disease].

AIM: To provide some evidence for the imbalance of Th1/Th2 cells in patients with autoimmune thyroid disease(AITD). METHODS: Concentrations of IL-12 and IL-18 in the serum samples of 27 patients with Graves' disease(GD), 24 patients with euthyroid Hashimoto's thyroiditis(HT), 25 patients with hypothyroid HT and 20 normal controls were investigated by ELISA. The activity of thyroid-stimulating antibody(TSAb) was also assayed in GD patients. RESULTS: The mean levels of IL-12 and IL-18 in patients with GD and euthyroid HT were significantly higher than those in normal controls. Significant positive correlations were found between the level of IL-12 and IL-18 in the two groups. In addition, striking positive correlations were noted between the levels of IL-12, IL-18 and the activity of TSAb in GD, as well as between the levels of IL-12, IL-18 and the titers of anti-thyroglobulin antibody(TgAb) in euthyroid HT. However, no differences were observed in IL-12 and IL-18 levels between hypothyroid HT and normal controls. CONCLUSION: Th1-type cell and related cytokines might play an important role in the pathogenesis of HT and GD. Such therapies can aggravate the process of disease in GD by suppressing Th2 response and modulating imbalance toward Th1 predominance.

The regulatory effect of natural killer cells: do "NK-reg cells" exist?

The most important progress in immunology in the last decade is the description of regulatory lymphocytes, among which Treg cells and regulatory NKT cells are much attractive to not only immunologists but also almost all biomedical researchers. Meanwhile, it is noted that NK cells are not only "Killers" but also regulate innate and adaptive immunity, especially in early stage, by secreting cytokines and cell-cell contact. In this review, we are going to briefly summarize the progresses in regulatory lymphocytes including T cells (Treg, Tr1, Th3), NKT cells and NK cells, and then extensively introduce the positive regulatory function of NK cells in both normal immune response and in disease condition (tumor, infection and autoimmunity), and finally, to focus on the most latest progression in the negative regulatory effects of NK cells on normal and pathogenic immune response. In conclusion, we speculate that a "regulatory NK (NK-reg)" cell subset exist and need to explore.

[Experimental study on magnesium phosphate cement in fracture treatment].

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the effect of magnesium phosphate cement (MPC) to fix fractures. METHODS: In vitro: fifty-four pairs of fresh pig femoral heads were made 1 cm2 fracture and divided into 6 groups (n=9 pairs ). MPC was used to agglutinate fracture of femoral heads at 100% humidity and at 25 degrees C, 37 degrees C respectively. At 30 minutes, 2 and 24 hours after agglutination, the biomechanical strength was measured. In vivo: the tibia plateau fracture models on both sides of 24 rabbits were made, one side was fixed with "L" shaped plate, and the other side was fixed with MPC. Then the effect of treatment was investigated by macrography, micrography, radiography and the In vitro: the adhesive ability of changes of serum electrolyte levels at 3 days, 3, 6 and 9 weeks after operation. RESULTS: MPC was strong. At 24 hours after MPC agglutination, the average tensile strength was 117.16 +/- 23.29 N/cm2. In vivo: after 6 weeks of fixation, the X-ray results showed that all rabbits' tibia plateau fractures were healed without displacement, and MPC was absorbed gradually. The changes of serum electrolyte levels were very minimal. The macrography observation showed that reduction of fracture were good at 3 days after operation, partial MPC remained in fracture end at 3 weeks, fracture line disappeared at 6 weeks and good remodeling was achieved at 9 weeks after operation in the experimental group. The micrography observation showed that the interface between bone and MPC was distinct at 3 days, MPC was degraded gradually and trabeculae began to grow into MPC at 3 weeks, and almost all MPC was degraded at 6 and 9 weeks of operation. CONCLUSION: MPC is a promising biomaterial, and might potentially be used for fracture treatment.
