Salvage of nondiagnostic transthoracic echocardiograms on patients in intensive care units with intravenous ultrasound contrast.

Transthoracic echocardiography (TTE) is often technically difficult on patients in intensive care units. Contrast echocardiography can improve left ventricular wall visualization and the assessment of regional and global left ventricular wall motion. Our study undertook to determine what proportion of nondiagnostic TTE studies on patients in intensive care units could be salvaged (i.e., converted to diagnostic studies) with contrast. Ninety-two patients with nondiagnostic TTEs had a repeat study after contrast. Using predefined criteria, 51% of studies were salvaged with contrast. Female gender emerged as the only factor associated with less likelihood of salvaging a study.

Coupled pacing improves cardiac efficiency during acute atrial fibrillation with or without cardiac dysfunction.

Coupled pacing (CP), a method for controlling ventricular rate during atrial fibrillation (AF), consists of a single electrical stimulation applied to the ventricles after each spontaneous activation. CP results in a mechanical contraction rate approximately one-half the rate during AF. Paired stimulation in which two electrical stimuli are delivered to the ventricles has also been proposed as a therapy for heart failure. Although paired stimulation enhances contractility, it greatly increases energy consumption. The primary hypothesis of the present study is that CP improves cardiac function during acute AF without a similar increase in energy consumption because of the reduced rate of ventricular contractions. In a canine model, CP was applied during four stages: sinus rhythm (SR), acute AF, cardiac dysfunction (CD), and AF in the presence of cardiac dysfunction. The rate of ventricular contraction decreased in all four stages as the result of CP. In addition, we determined the changes in external cardiac work, myocardial oxygen consumption, and myocardial efficiency in the each of four stages. CP partially reversed the effects of AF and CD on external cardiac work, whereas myocardial oxygen consumption increased only moderately. In all stages but SR, CP increased myocardial efficiency because of the marked increases in cardiac work compared with the moderate increases in total energy consumed. Thus this pacing therapy may be a viable therapy for patients with concurrent atrial fibrillation and heart failure.

A clinical and echocardiographic score for assigning risk of major events after dobutamine echocardiograms.

OBJECTIVES: We sought to develop and validate a risk score combining both clinical and dobutamine echocardiographic (DbE) features in 4890 patients who underwent DbE at three expert laboratories and were followed for death or myocardial infarction for up to five years. BACKGROUND: In contrast to exercise scores, no score exists to combine clinical, stress, and echocardiographic findings with DbE. METHODS: Dobutamine echocardiography was performed for evaluation of known or suspected coronary artery disease in 3156 patients at two sites in the U.S. After exclusion of patients with incomplete follow-up, 1456 DbEs were randomly selected to develop a multivariate model for prediction of events. After simplification of each model for clinical use, the models were internally validated in the remaining DbE patients in the same series and externally validated in 1733 patients in an independent series. RESULTS: The following score was derived from regression models in the modeling group (160 events): DbE risk = (age.0.02) + (heart failure + rate-pressure product <15000).0.4 + (ischemia + scar).0.6. The presence of each variable was scored as 1 and its absence scored as 0, except for age (continuous variable). Using cutoff values of 1.2 and 2.6, patients were classified into groups with five-year event-free survivals >95%, 75% to 95%, and <75%. Application of the score in the internal validation group (265 events) gave equivalent results, as did its application in the external validation group (494 events, C index = 0.72). CONCLUSIONS: A risk score based on clinical and echocardiographic data may be used to quantify the risk of events in patients undergoing DbE.

Preload-adjusted right ventricular maximal power: concept and validation.

Right ventricular (RV) maximal power (PWR(mx)) is dependent on preload. The objective of this study was to test our hypothesis that the PWR(mx) versus end-diastolic volume (EDV) relationship, analogous to the load-independent stroke work (SW) versus EDV relationship (preload-recruitable SW, PRSW), is linear, with the PWR x-axis intercept (V(0PWR)) corresponding to the PRSW intercept (V(0SW)). If our hypothesis is correct, the preload sensitivity of PWR(mx) could be eliminated by adjusting for EDV and V(0PWR). Ten dogs were instrumented with a pulmonary flow probe, micromanometers, and RV conductance catheter. Data were obtained during bicaval occlusions under various conditions and fitted to PWR(mx) = a.(EDV - V(0PWR))(beta), where a is the slope of the relationship. The PWR(mx) versus EDV relationship did not deviate from linearity (beta = 1.09, P = not significant vs. 1), and V(0PWR) correlated with V(0SW) (r = 0.93, P <0.0001). V(0PRW) was related to steady-state EDV and left ventricular end-diastolic pressure, allowing for estimation of V(0PWR) (V(0Est)) and single-beat PWR(mx) preload adjustment. Dividing PWR(mx) by the difference of EDV and V(0PWR) (PAMP(V0PWR)) eliminated preload dependency down to 50% of the baseline EDV. PWR(mx) adjustment using V(0Est) (PAMP(V0Est)) showed similar preload independency. Enhancing contractility increased PAMP(V0PWR) and PAMP(V0Est) from 176 +/- 52 to 394 +/- 205 W/ml x 10(4) and 145 +/- 51 to 404 +/- 261 W/ml x 10(4), respectively, accompanied by an increase of PRSW from 13.0 +/- 4.5 to 29.7 +/- 16.4 mmHg (all P <0.01). PAMP(V0PWR) and PAMP(V0Est) correlated with PRSW (r = 0.85; r = 0.77; both P <0.001). Numerical modeling confirmed the accuracy of our experimental data. Thus preload adjustment of PWR(mx) should consider a linear PWR(mx) versus EDV relationship with distinct V(0PWR). PAMP(V0PWR) is a preload-independent estimate of RV contractility that may eventually be determined noninvasively.

Cellular, but not direct, adenoviral delivery of vascular endothelial growth factor results in improved left ventricular function and neovascularization in dilated ischemic cardiomyopathy.

OBJECTIVES: We sought to compare the effects on angiogenesis and left ventricular (LV) function of adenoviral vascular endothelial growth factor-165 (AdVEGF-165) gene delivery by direct injection of AdVEGF-165 to the transplantation of skeletal myoblasts (SKMB) transfected with AdVEGF-165 in a rat model of ischemic cardiomyopathy. BACKGROUND: Angiogenesis offers the potential for treating ischemic cardiomyopathy. However, the optimal method of delivering angiogenic factors for neovascularization remains undetermined. With the increased clinical interest in cell therapy for the treatment of LV dysfunction, SKMB transplantation may serve as a means of gene transfer. METHODS: Two months after left anterior descending coronary artery ligation, rats received either injection of an adenoviral construct encoding VEGF-165, or 1 million SKMB transfected with AdLuciferase (AdLuc) or AdVEGF-165. Cardiac function was assessed echocardiographically, and neovascularization was assessed histologically four weeks after therapy. RESULTS: Neovascularization was significantly increased by both AdVEGF delivery strategies (100 +/- 7% and 185 +/- 33% increase in vascular density compared with SKMB alone, respectively). However, cell-based delivery, but not direct injection of AdVEGF-165, resulted in increased cardiac function (73.5 +/- 12.6% and 1.5 +/- 8.8% increase in shortening fraction compared with saline control; AdLuc-transfected SKMB: 29.4 +/- 15.0%). The improved function was not due to increased engraftment of VEGF expressing SKMB. Rather, improved function correlated with less apoptosis in the border zone in those animals that received AdVEGF-165 expressing SKMB. CONCLUSION: Our data demonstrate that cell-based delivery of VEGF leads to an improved treatment effect over direct adenoviral injection, and suggest that already developed adenoviral vectors that encode secreted factors could potentially offer greater efficacy in combination with SKMB transplantation.

Influence of structural geometry on the severity of bicuspid aortic stenosis.

Doppler-derived gradients may overestimate total pressure loss in degenerative and prosthetic aortic valve stenosis (AS) due to unaccounted pressure recovery distal to the orifice. However, in congenitally bicuspid valves, jet eccentricity may result in a higher anatomic-to-effective orifice contraction ratio, resulting in an increased pressure loss at the valve and a reduced pressure recovery distal to the orifice leading to greater functional severity. The objective of our study was to determine the impact of local geometry on the total versus Doppler-derived pressure loss and therefore the assessed severity of the stenosis in bicuspid valves. On the basis of clinically obtained measurements, two- and three-dimensional computer simulations were created with various local geometries by altering the diameters of the left ventricular outflow tract (LVOT; 1.8-3.0 cm), orifice diameter (OD; 0.8-1.6 cm), and aortic root diameter (AR; 3.0-5.4 cm). Jet eccentricity was altered in the models from 0 to 25 degrees. Simulations were performed under steady-flow conditions. Axisymmetric simulations indicate that the overall differences in pressure recovery were minor for variations in LVOT diameter (<3%). However, both OD and AR had a significant impact on pressure recovery (6-20%), with greatest recovery being the larger OD and the smaller recovery being the AR. In addition, three-dimensional data illustrate a greater pressure loss for eccentric jets with the same orifice area, thus increasing functional severity. In conclusion, jet eccentricity results in greater pressure loss in bicuspid valve AS due to reduced effective orifice area. Functional severity may also be enhanced by larger aortic roots, commonly occurring in these patients, leading to reduced pressure recovery. Thus, for the same anatomic orifice area, functional severity is greater in bicuspid than in degenerative tricuspid AS.

Mitral valve repair without cardiopulmonary bypass or atriotomy using the coapsys device: device design and implantation procedure in canine functional mitral regurgitation model.

BACKGROUND: Myocor developed a unique system, the Coapsys annuloplasty system, to treat functional mitral regurgitation (MR) without cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB). This study was conducted to test the feasibility of the Coapsys implantation procedure in a canine functional MR model. METHODS: Functional MR with heart failure was induced in 9 dogs by rapid ventricular pacing (230 beats/min for 30 +/- 4 days). The Coapsys device, which consists of anterior and posterior epicardial pads connected by a subvalvular chord, was then surgically implanted. Under epicardial echocardiographic guidance, we placed the Coapsys device across the left ventricular chamber using the delivery instrument and needle assembly. We sized the Coapsys device by drawing the posterior leaflet and annulus toward the anterior leaflet with the sizing instrument. Final device size was selected when MR was minimized or eliminated as assessed by 2-dimensional color Doppler echocardiography. RESULTS: In all cases, we successfully implanted the Coapsys device without CPB or atriotomy. MR was reduced an average of 2 grades. No adverse events, such as hemodynamic compromise or structural valve damage, were noted. CONCLUSION: Coapsys device implantation was feasible and safe on a beating canine heart. All accessory tools used for device implantation were found useful.

Usefulness of plasma brain natriuretic peptide levels in predicting dobutamine-induced myocardial ischemia.

Plasma brain natriuretic peptide (BNP) levels have been associated with left ventricular dysfunction and acute myocardial infarction. Although natriuretic peptide responses have been linked to exercise-induced myocardial ischemia, it is not known whether BNP levels predict dobutamine-induced myocardial ischemia. The aim of this study was to determine whether elevations in BNP levels immediately before or after dobutamine-induced stress are associated with echocardiographic myocardial ischemia. Plasma BNP was measured before and after stress during dobutamine-stress echocardiography in 317 patients (aged 68 +/- 11 years; 46% women) who had creatinine <1.5 mg/dl and did not have valvular disease. Ischemia, as assessed by blinded echocardiographic interpretation, was noted in 31 patients (10%). In univariable analyses, prestress BNP was predictive of echocardiographic ischemia (rates of ischemia according to tertiles of BNP 4%, 9%, and 16%, chi-square for trend = 8, p = 0.0059). The change in BNP levels with dobutamine stress was not associated with ischemia. In multivariable analyses, after adjusting for age, gender, and left ventricular ejection fraction, BNP before and after stress remained predictive of ischemia (1 SD increase in the log of resting BNP adjusted odds ratio 2.0, 95% confidence interval 1.3 to 3.0, p = 0.002). In this pilot study, resting BNP was predictive of dobutamine-induced ischemia. Future work is needed to confirm these findings.

Ischemic and viable myocardium in patients with non-Q-wave or Q-wave myocardial infarction and left ventricular dysfunction: a clinical study using positron emission tomography, echocardiography, and electrocardiography.

OBJECTIVES: We investigated whether patients with non-Q-wave myocardial infarction (NQMI) have more ischemic viable myocardium (IVM) than patients with Q-wave myocardial infarction (QMI). BACKGROUND: Non-Q-wave myocardial infarction is associated with higher incidences of cardiac events than QMI, suggesting more myocardium at risk in NQMI. METHODS: To identify myocardial ischemia, hibernation, and scar, the resting and stress (82)rubidium perfusion and F-18 fluorodeoxyglucose metabolic positron emission tomographic imaging (PET) was performed in 64 consecutive patients with NQMI (n = 21) or QMI (n = 43). Echocardiography was performed for assessment of left ventricular function and wall motion index (WMI). The relationships between PET, echocardiographic, and electrocardiographic findings were analyzed. RESULTS: There were no significant differences in left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) between NQMI and QMI groups (28 +/- 10% vs. 25 +/- 11%, p > 0.05). Ischemic and viable myocardium was more common in NQMI than in QMI (91% vs. 61%, p < 0.05). The total amount of IVM was significantly higher in NQMI than in QMI (6.5 +/- 5.2 vs. 2.9 +/- 2.8 segments, p < 0.001). Neither the number of Q waves, residual ST-segment depression of >or=0.5 mm or elevation of >or=1 mm, nor LVEF and WMI were significant predictors for IVM. Wall motion index correlated with scar segments (r = 0.54, p < 0.001) and LVEF (r = -0.67, p < 0.001). CONCLUSIONS: Ischemic and viable myocardium is common in patients with NQMI and left ventricular dysfunction, suggesting that aggressive approaches should be taken to salvage the myocardium at risk in such patients.

Comparison of ability to identify left atrial thrombus by three-dimensional tomography versus transesophageal echocardiography in patients with atrial fibrillation.

We sought to determine the potential use of recently introduced cardiac 3-dimensional computed tomography as an alternative to transesophageal echocardiography for examination of the left atrial appendage. Our data suggest that computed tomography is a potential alternative for assessing the anatomy of the left atrial appendage and for detecting thrombi.

Plasma B-type natriuretic peptide levels in systolic heart failure: importance of left ventricular diastolic function and right ventricular systolic function.

OBJECTIVES: This study was designed to characterize the importance of echocardiographic indexes, including newer indexes of diastolic function, as determinants of plasma B-type natriuretic peptide (BNP) levels in patients with systolic heart failure (SHF). BACKGROUND: Plasma BNP levels have utility for diagnosing and managing heart failure. However, there is significant heterogeneity in BNP levels that is not explained by left ventricular size and function alone. METHODS: In 106 patients with symptomatic SHF (left ventricular ejection fraction [LVEF] <0.35), we measured plasma BNP levels and performed comprehensive echocardiography with assessment of left ventricular diastolic function, including color M-mode (CMM) and tissue Doppler imaging (TDI), and of right ventricular (RV) function. RESULTS: Median plasma BNP levels were elevated and increased with greater severity of diastolic dysfunction. We found significant correlations (p < 0.001 for all) between BNP and indexes of myocardial relaxation (early diastolic velocity: r = -0.26), compliance (deceleration time: r = -0.55), and filling pressure (early transmitral to early annular diastolic velocity ratio: r = 0.51; early transmitral flow to the velocity of early left ventricular flow propagation ratio: r = 0.41). In multivariate analysis, overall diastolic stage, LVEF, RV systolic dysfunction, mitral regurgitation (MR) severity, age and creatinine clearance were independent predictors of BNP levels (model fit r = 0.8, p < 0.001). CONCLUSIONS: Plasma BNP levels are significantly related to newer diastolic indexes measured from TDI and CMM in SHF. Heterogeneity of BNP levels in patients with SHF reflects the severity of diastolic abnormality, RV dysfunction, and MR in addition to LVEF, age, and renal function. These findings may explain the powerful relationship of BNP to symptoms and prognosis in SHF.

Conduction system abnormalities in patients with obstructive hypertrophic cardiomyopathy following septal reduction interventions.

We observed the impact of percutaneous transluminal septal myocardial ablation (PTSMA) and myectomy on the conduction system in patients with obstructive hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HC). Septal reduction intervention is capable of eliminating the left ventricular outflow tract obstruction in patients with obstructive HC; however, conduction system abnormalities are frequent consequences of these procedures. A standard 12-lead electrocardiogram and Doppler echocardiogram were obtained in 204 patients who underwent PTSMA (n = 70) or myectomy (n = 134) before and at average of 3 months after intervention. Of 146 patients who had normal conduction systems before intervention, the duration of the QRS complex was significantly prolonged from 98 +/- 15 to 130 +/- 25 ms (p <0.0001), with right bundle branch block (RBBB) developing in 62% patients after PTSMA, and from 100 +/- 13 to 154 +/- 20 ms (p <0.0001), with left bundle branch block (LBBB) developing in 93% patients after myectomy. No significant difference in the QRS duration was found in the remaining 58 patients who had preexisting conduction abnormalities after intervention. In 174 patients without a preexisting permanent pacemaker, a pacemaker was implanted in 22% versus 13% of patients who underwent PTSMA (overall and without preexisting conduction block, respectively) and 10% versus 2% of patients with myectomy. The duration of baseline QRS was an independent predictor for the requirement of a permanent pacemaker (p <0.0001). Thus, RBBB often develops after PTSMA and LBBB is very frequently produced by myectomy. A possible requirement of a permanent pacemaker should always be considered before intervention when patients have preexisting RBBB or LBBB.

Potential application of tissue Doppler imaging to assess regional left ventricular diastolic function in patients with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy: comparison with 123I-beta-methyl iodophenyl pentadecanoic acid myocardial scintigraphy.

BACKGROUND: Tissue Doppler imaging (TDI) has been utilized to evaluate left ventricular myocardial dysfunction in patients with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM); however, no clear explanation for the abnormality of TDI variables has been forthcoming. HYPOTHESIS: Peak negative myocardial velocity gradient (MVG) derived from TDI may correlate with a disorder of fatty acid metabolism in patients with HCM. METHODS: Tissue Doppler imaging and 123I-beta-methyl iodophenyl pentadecanoic acid (123I-BMIPP) myocardial scintigraphy were performed in 15 patients with asymmetric septal hypertrophy (mean age 47 +/- 18 years) and in 12 healthy controls (mean age 43 +/- 10 years). RESULTS: In early 123I-BMIPP images, accumulation defects were observed in the ventricular septum in 12 patients and in the posterior wall in 8 patients with HCM. Peak negative MVG in the ventricular septum (1.1 +/- 0.5 vs. 2.8 +/- 0.5, p < 0.0001) and posterior wall (5.2 +/- 1.4 vs. 6.7 +/- 0.8, p < 0.01 ) was significantly lower in the HCM group than in the controls; also, these parameters were significantly lower in patients with than in those without a defect in the region in question. The peak negative MVG in the ventricular septum and posterior wall correlated inversely with the washout rate in all subjects. CONCLUSIONS: Peak negative MVG according to TDI is related to disorder of fatty acid metabolism in the regional left ventricular myocardium of patients with HCM.

Noninvasive quantification of regional myocardial function using Doppler-derived velocity, displacement, strain rate, and strain in healthy volunteers: effects of aging.

Quantification of regional function can be performed using Doppler tissue echocardiography to evaluate myocardial velocity, tissue displacement, strain, and strain rate. Although these techniques have been validated in animal experiments and early clinical trials, there are only limited measurements in healthy populations to use as reference data. In 100 healthy volunteers, left ventricular myocardial velocity, displacement, strain, and strain rate were measured using Doppler tissue echocardiography. Measurements were obtained from basal, mid, and apical segments of walls visualized from left ventricular apical 4- and 2-chamber views. Analysis of covariance was used to examine the effects of age and wall segment position. All parameters showed a strong dependence on wall segment position. Although myocardial velocities and strain rate showed significant dependence on age, displacement and peak systolic strain measures were less affected. Like pulsed Doppler mitral inflow velocity, tissue velocity and strain rate show age-related changes.

Echocardiographic assessment of regional ventricular function after device-based change of left ventricular shape.

We assessed the effects of implantation of Myosplint (Myocor, Maple Grove, Minn), a device that changes left ventricular (LV) cross-sectional shape from circular to bilobar, on regional LV function. A total of 10 open-chest dogs with tachycardia-induced cardiomyopathy were studied before and after Myosplint implantation. LV cross-sectional epicardial echocardiography at the papillary muscle level was performed along with acquisition of hemodynamic data. LV normalized thickening, fractional thickening, end-diastolic thickness, and end-diastolic curvatures were calculated for 10 LV segments. Myosplint implantation did not affect LV hemodynamics, but decreased average end-diastolic curvature (P <.0001) and increased its segmental heterogeneity (P <.0001). There was no change in average fractional thickening, whereas normalized thickening increased (P =.05). In contrast, segmental heterogeneity of both normalized and fractional thickening increased (P =.02 and P =.01, respectively). Structural modeling confirmed that Myosplint implantation increases regional stress heterogeneity and curvature heterogeneity. LV cross-sectional shape markedly affects regional LV performance.

Evaluation of ventricular synchrony using novel Doppler echocardiographic indices in patients with heart failure receiving cardiac resynchronization therapy.

Cardiac resynchronization therapy improves hemodynamics in selected patients with heart failure. Mechanic asynchrony parameters that may guide patient selection or therapy optimization are still being investigated. A biventricular (BiV) pacemaker was implanted in 34 patients with dilated ischemic, idiopathic, or valvular cardiomyopathy, and a QRS duration of > or =130 milliseconds. Two-dimensional standard and Doppler tissue echocardiography was performed during right ventricular (RV), left ventricular (LV), BiV, and no pacing in a random and blinded manner. LV and BiV pacing increased stroke volume (P <.02 for both) and ejection fraction (P <.001 for both). Regional contractility assessed by displacement, strain rate, and peak systolic strain was improved in some segments (P <.05) during LV and BiV pacing. A homogenization of segmental contractions was observed during LV and BiV pacing as evaluated by net systolic displacement and segmental myocardial performance index. LV and BiV pacing provides benefits that can be quantified by echocardiography.

The pseudorestrictive pattern of transmitral Doppler flow pattern after conversion of atrial fibrillation to sinus rhythm: is atrial or ventricular dysfunction to blame?

Patients with paroxysmal atrial fibrillation (AF) who have recently converted from AF to sinus rhythm often exhibit a restrictive Doppler pattern in the transmitral flow (TMF) velocity. However, the mechanism of this phenomenon has not been well defined. We evaluated the temporal change of TMF pattern and hemodynamics after conversion of AF to in sinus rhythm in an animal model. Eight open-chest dogs underwent 3 hours of pacing-induced AF. TMF velocities and pressure data were acquired at baseline (sinus rhythm), immediately after conversion of AF, and every 10 minutes thereafter. Early diastolic TMF velocity was increased immediately after conversion and recovered to the baseline value in 20 minutes. Atrial systolic TMF velocity was reduced after AF and recovered to baseline value in 20 to 30 minutes. Early diastolic/atrial systolic TMF velocity was increased after conversion, and recovered to baseline value in 20 to 30 minutes. The mean left atrial (LA) pressure increased immediately, 10 and 20 minutes after the conversion of AF to sinus rhythm. The left ventricular end-diastolic pressure was increased and positive left ventricular dP/dt and tau were decreased immediately after AF, whereas they recovered within 10 minutes. In conclusion, a pseudorestrictive pattern of TMF after AF occurred as a result of transient LA mechanical functional impairment and increased LA pressure caused by LA stunning. Transient left ventricular diastolic dysfunction also effected the TMF velocity immediately after the conversion from AF to sinus rhythm, although it recovered faster than LA mechanical dysfunction.

In vivo short-term Doppler hemodynamic profiles of 189 Carpentier-Edwards Perimount pericardial bioprosthetic valves in the mitral position.

We sought to determine the hemodynamic performance of the Carpentier-Edwards Perimount pericardial valve in the mitral position. We reviewed the Doppler echocardiographic data on 189 patients (110 women; 68 +/- 12 years of age) who were implanted with this valve (7.6 days +/- 13 postoperatively) at our institution between September 2000 and May 2002. The average ejection fraction was 47%. For all valves, the peak velocity was 1.9 +/- 0.3 m/s, peak gradient was 15 +/- 4.8 mm Hg, and mean gradient was 5.8 +/- 2 mm Hg. The pressure half-time was 93 +/- 24 milliseconds, with a calculated effective orifice area of 2.5 +/- 0.6 cm2. The average effective orifice area by continuity equation (83 valves) was 1.5 +/- 0.5 cm2. The mitral regurgitation was graded mild or less in 97.5% of all valves. This is the largest series establishing the favorable hemodynamic behavior of the different sizes of a new Perimount mitral valve, and the reported data could serve as a reference.
