Two patients are described where a mass of polyethylene strips had been used for augmentation mammaplasty. The reaction to this plastic was different in each case.
Histological features seen in 9 capsules formed around breast prostheses with Dacron patches were described. Dacron evoked a marked foreign body reaction and fibroplasia. Parts of the silicone layer in which the Dacron fibres were originally anchored may also get into the capsule together with the Dacron. The main cause of fibrotic thickening in the capsules was contamination of the tissues with a foreign material, very probably silicone. The contamination of the capsules showed individual and local variation, with no definite correlation to the time which has elapsed since implantation.

From the combined procedures of skin stereomicroscopy of in situ grafts in rats, graft removal and supravital intracardiac injection of a contrast medium, the data suggest that the revascularisation of skin grafts is an orderly sequence of events which include: active invasion of the graft dermis by the ingrowing host capillary sprouts; development of anastomoses between the graft and host vasculatures; entry of blood into the graft through the vascular anastomoses by 48 hours after transplantation.
A method of skin transplantation is presented whereby a wound may be successively sown with epithelium by the repeated transfer of the same strips of split thickness skin.
