Among 1511 consecutive patients patch tested with Kathon CG at 100 ppm active ingredient, 13 (0.8%) gave a positive reaction. Use test with a lotion containing Kathon CG (8.6 ppm) revealed no reaction in 11 patients with a positive patch test. It is concluded that a positive patch test reaction to 100 ppm does not initiate eczema after use of products preserved with Kathon CG in the low concentrations (3-15 ppm) used in final products.

Onycholysis was found in 7 workers engaged with manual skinning of cattle. In all of them the nail problems started shortly after employment. The most likely explanation for the persistent onycholysis is work related pressure anoxia of the nailbed.
The need for a moist environment for the normal healing process led to the development of occlusive dressings. Results from this study support the contention that a moist wound environment is favorable to the healing process in humans as well as in animal models. Hydrocolloid dressings are effective in the practical daily management of chronic and even refractive ulcerations of the lower extremities and offer a time-saving treatment alternative with a high degree of patient acceptability.

Thirty-six of 37 veterinary surgeons with incapacitating dermatitis had allergic contact dermatitis, mainly from antibiotics such as spiramycin, Penethamate BP and tylosin. Eight were sensitive to rubber materials. Twenty of 36 had positive prick or scratch tests, mainly to animal hair. The atopic sensitivities were relevant to the contact dermatitis since most of those who have them develop contact reactions from cows' hair and from obstetric work with cows. Protein contact dermatitis seems to be an important predisposing factor for the development of incapacitating allergic contact dermatitis in veterinary surgeons.

A woman complained she had caught her "white spots" from an American sun lotion. The daughter also had them. The mother's spots showed malassezia furfur. The daughter, by a curious coincidence, had developed vitiligo at the same time. As a comfort it was agreed that the sun lotion should be examined for fungal contamination. Scrapings from lesions of patients with tinea versicolor show a typical appearance of malassezia furfur. Roberts (9) cultured specimens from 27 patients and isolated Pitysporum orbiculare in 25.

A 27-year-old female, after a fracture of the mandible treated with osteosynthesis and after a difficult extraction, developed osteomyelitis with fistulation and sequestration. Sequestrectomy and extraction of the teeth in the osteomyelitic area did not clear the patient of symptoms. A patch test to nickel turned out to be positive. After removal of the stainless steel cerclage in the mandible, clinical and radiographic changes returned to normal within 2 and 8 weeks, respectively. It is concluded that, whenever acute treatment does not take priority, patch tests comprising nickel, cobalt and chromium should be performed in patients who are candidates for metal osteosynthesis.
For two years the employees in a Danish post office complained of irritation of the eyes and the skin. The symptoms were of varying intensity and disappeared during absence from work. A photocopying machine using wet toner proved to be the cause of the symptoms. It has not been possible to ascribe the symptoms to specific chemicals.
Patients with palpebral cellulitis may turn in the first place to a skin clinic. The clinical picture and the course of disease are illustrated here by four case histories. The importance of differentiating between collateral orbital edema, palpebral cellulitis and orbital cellulitis is stressed.

An outbreak of rubber fingerstall dermatitis in a Danish post office was found to be caused by minute amounts of isopropylphenyl-para-phenylenediamine (IPPD) in the fingerstalls. The presence of IPPD in the fingerstalls could not be explained by the manufacturer and had to be confirmed by gas chromatographic analysis.
