[Carcinoma of the left colic angle presenting as an intrasplenic gas collection (author's transl)].

A 65-year-old man was hospitalised for a subocclusive state, fever, 15 kg weight loss and left abdominal pain. The plain abdominal film revealed gas in the left hypochondrium. Barium enema showed a stenosis of the left colic angle. On evacuation, a little barium entered the gas-filled cavity. Left colectomy with splenectomy was carried out. The pathologist found histological evidence of a small carcinoma of the colon invading the hilum of the spleen. An intrasplenic cavity had been formed at the site of contact. Thus an intrasplenic gas collection was the presenting sign of a carcinoma of the colon. Two colosplenic fistulae of similar origin have been reported in the literature; neither associated with similar radiological findings.

[Arteriography in renal metastases from solid tumors (excluding lymphomas). Study of 3 cases and review of the literature].

Three cases of arteriography of renal metastasis of solid tumors are presented. Twice the primitive cancer was bronchial, once laryngeal. There is not other clinical metastasis at the time of arteriography. A general revue of the 19 observations of the litterature is donemthe indication of the arteriography is justified if the primary tumor is not known or if there is not other metastasis. On the cortrary if they are diffused, the indications of this angiography are obviously very limited. In six cases, one can see, as in our observation, stretched thin, encased arteries with a lacune at the nephrographic time. In six other, at these images, are associated rare flecks and neovascularisations; Theses radiological syndromes seem to us characteristic. More rarely the angiography may be normal (3 cases) or look like a primitive renal tumor (3 cases). We must say, however, that nearly all the observations have anatomicaly a renal tumor. The other types of renal metastasis are not well known angiographycally.

Importance of a post-therapeutic residue in the prognosis of head and neck rhabdomyosarcoma in children.

Enhanced contrast computed tomography (CT) was performed in 23 children treated for head and neck rhabdomyosarcoma (RMS). The CT studies were retrospectively reviewed by two senior radiologists. Analysis of these CT studies revealed to separate groups of patients. One group (12 patients) had a post-therapeutic residue defined as soft tissue thickening at the original site, which remained stable over a period of 3 months and caused no mass effect on adjacent structures. Of these 12, eight showed enhancement at the area of thickening. Nine of these 12 patients relapsed. The other group (11 patients) demonstrated no post-therapeutic residue; only three of these patients relapsed. In this study the presence of a post-therapeutic residue was significantly associated with a poor prognosis, using a Fischer's test (P = 0.04).

Aneurysmal bone cysts of the jaws: CT and MR findings.

Two cases of aneurysmal bone cyst of the jaws, one in the mandible and the other in the maxilla, are reported in young girls 7 and 15 years old. One was a primary lesion; the other was associated with fibrous dysplasia. In both cases CT and MR demonstrated characteristic fluid-fluid levels. The diagnosis was confirmed after biopsy and surgical resection of the lesions.
