[Phagocytic activity of monocytes in human primary glomerulonephritis].

Circulating immune complexes (CIC) account for a majority of GN. Their pathogenicity depends on size, molecular composition, glomerular hemodynamics and activity of phagocytes. The phagocytic function of peripheral monocytes was studied in 23 patients with nonsystemic GN. Phagocytic activity of peripheral blood monocytes was assessed in vitro, by calculating phagocytic index (IP: number of zymozan particles in each monocyte) and phagocytosis percentage (PP: number of phagocyting monocytes); the tests were carried out on autologous and heterologous serum samples. In 13 controls, PP was 79 +/- 5.8%. In 7 membranous GN, 6 membranoproliferative GN and 10 lipoid nephrosis, PP was severely decreased, 63.4 +/- 9.6%, 52.1 +/- 19% and 52.2 +/- 14%. In each group of GN, these results were significantly different from controls (p less than 0.01). In all groups these results were similar in autologous and heterologous serum samples (55 +/- 13% and 57.5 +/- 16%; NS). Therefore, this defect was not linked to the presence of serum inhibitors. In conclusion, alterations of phagocytic activity is present in some primary GN and may explain an insufficient rate of CIC removal.

[Psychopharmacological profile of a new dopaminergic agonist, RU 24213 (author's transl)].

The psychopharmacological properties of RU 24213 were compared to those of other dopaminergic agonists (apomorphine, dexamphetamine, bromocriptine and L-dopa) in various behavioural tests. In naive mice the drug reduced the locomotor hyperactivity in the primary exploratory phase and produced stimulation in the subsequent stabilized activity period. In rats it provoked dose-related stereotypies, specially gnawing and sniffing. It delayed the cataleptic state induced by prochlorperazine without affecting its intensity. In animals unilaterally lesioned with 6-OHDA in the nigro-striatal pathway, RU 24213 caused contralateral turning. It exhibited relatively weak emetic and anorexic effects in dogs. Core temperature recordings in rats revealed a biphasic hypo- and hyperthermic activity. In drug interaction studies it was obsers in rats with unilateral electrolytical striatal lesion. The results obtained suggest that RU 24213 stimulates dopamine receptors both directly and indirectly. In this respect it could be compared to bromocriptine but unlike this latter compound it has an immediate effect which is of shorter duration.

[HLA and erythrocyte genetic markers in a family with hereditary angioneurotic edema (author's transl)].

The study deals with a family of 22 members spreading over four generations; 14 members suffer from hereditary angio-neurotic edema; all of them have been typed for 30 antigens of the A and B loci in the HLA System and for ABO and Rhesus erythrocyte markers. There is no connection between the disease and any of the markers considered. As for the HLA system, there should be at least 7 chromosomic recombinants to account for the relationship with one of the haplotypes involved.

The action of arachidonic acid on the locomotive activity of mice.

The intraperitoneal administration of methyl or sodium arachidonate (100 and 200 mg-kg causes, in mice, a significant decline in locomotive activity 30 min later, and is able to oppose completely the antagonistic action of D-amphetamine (2.5 and 5 mg-kg). This effect seems to be related to increased synthesis of prostaglandins, for it disappears partially after pretreatment with acetylsalicylic acid, which alone has no effect on the spontaneous activity of mice. Oleic acid, an unsaturated fatty acid not involved in prostaglandin synthesis does not give significant results in the same conditions.
