[Combined radiotherapy and chemotherapy of the central nervous system in malignant neoplasms of children (author's transl)].

A combination of radiotherapy and cytostatic drugs was used in the treatment of 39 children with primary brain tumour between 1961 and 1974, and 40 children with acute lymphoid leukaemia between 1971 and 1974. Best results were obtained with medulloblastoma using cerebrospinal radiotherapy and cytostatic drugs: 10 of 17 children are still alive. Of 40 children with acute lymphoid leukaemia 18 are still alive after cerebrospinal or cranial radiotherapy. The side effects of the combined therapy were within justifiable limits.

[Sterno-costo-clavicular hyperostosis: a hitherto undescribed entity (author's transl)].

Persistent pulling pain in the sternum, clavicles and both first ribs, especially during cold and wet weather, necessitated medical investigations and treatment in 3 patients. Externally a cylindrical or spindle-shaped swelling of the clavicles was noticeable and two patients had signs of superior caval obstruction in addition. X-rays showed hyperostosis of the sternal and middle part of the clavicle, synostosis of the sternoclavicular joints with involvement of the two first ribs as well as a thickening and increase in breadth of the sternum. In one patient there were additional swellings of the first to fourth ribs bilaterally. During the period of observation there was no radiological progression of the bone disease. Apart from a consistently raised erythrocyte sedimentation rate blood chemistry was normal. The sterno-costo-clavicular hyperostosis led to bilateral occlusion of the subclavian veins with resulting upper venous congestion in two patients. Histology of the biopsy samples showed a characteristic hyperostotic spongiosclerosis in all three cases. The cause of this sterno-costo-clavicular hyperostosis is unknown. Clinical, radiological and histological findings indicate that it is a uniform disease which has not previously been described.

[The distribution of Sn2+ after application as a complex (author's transl)].

On animal experiments was shown that Sn2+ after i.v. application with 113Sn as radioactiv indicator was deposited in the skeleton. Experiments were done with citrat-, tartrat-, pyrophosphat-, phosphat- and Sn2+/HCl-complexes. The importance of the results for the use of Sn2+-solutions in Nuclear Medicine for men are discussed.

[Sterno-costo-clavicular hyperostosis (author's transl)].

A case is described in which bilateral subclavian vein occlusion was caused by fusiform expansion of the clavicle with hyperostosis, ankylosis of the sterno-clavicular joint, widening and thickening of the sternum and ossification of the costal cartilage of the first ribs. Histologically this proved to be due to an hyperostotic spongiosclerosis.

[Therapy verification film for field control during cobalt-60 radiotherapy].

The therapy-verification-film RP/V X-omat, which the Society Kodak produces, is a gamma ray sensible film, which because of its relative non-sensibility by irradiation of about 25-150 r, presents a density of S =0,7 to S = 3,9 and is good exploitable. Therefore, it is appropriated to the field controls during the radiotherapy especially for the mantel field technique. It represents a good complement of the gamma ray sensible film RPTL.

[Results of cobalt-60-irradiation of brain tumors].

The periods of survival which can be obtained on patients with a primary tumor of the brain after an unique or post-operative cobalt-60-irradiation is dependent of the histology: while periods of survival of several years have been obtained in case of medulloblastoma and astrocytoma, the irradiation of the multiform glioblastoma represents only a palliative measure with a temporary amelioration for any months.
