[Sequential scintigraphy in the investigation of changes in renal function during pregnancy (author's transl)].

Changes in renal function during pregnancy were studied by sequential scintigraphy in 16 women with normal kidneys. The examinations were carried out during the first and third trimesters. Time activity curves were obtained by a computer-assisted storage and analysis procedure, using a "region of interest" technique for renal parenchyma and renal pelvis. The study included topographic changes and the evaluation of 13 semi-quantitative parameters related to the renal parenchyma and of nine parameters related to the renal pelvis. The results were demonstrated graphically. The predominantly rightsided changes in renal function during the third trimester are discussed in relation to the relevant literature.

[Effect of ionizing energy on the bladder dilated by dura, with special reference to the implantation technic. Animal experimental study].

On 60 female rabbits we examined the influence of the postoperative irradiation on the urinary bladder dilated by liophilized human dura after resection of the wall. Compared with former examinations as to the implantation technique the submucous deposition of the dura and fixation with single-button U-sutures (chromic catgut 000) has proved as superior. Vascular trophic disturbances on the margins of the resection could not be proved. When 4,500 R, 6,000 R and 7,500 R were irradiated the regeneration process through the dura serving as "live" rail retarded considerably. Problems in connection with the suture technique and the total focal dosage are discussed taking into consideration literature.

[Treatment results in supervoltage therapy of malignomas of the collum uteri].

Based on a material of 136 patients with cervix cancer the results of radiation therapy partially combined with intracavitary radiotherapy are discussed. The 5-year survival rates are accordanted with good results of other authors. The 5-year survival rate is 17,6% in progressive cases with tumour invasion in the urinary bladder, from has to derived, that by application of megavolt therapy this group of patients is an indication for radiation therapy under curative terms.

[Urine cytology studies in bladder tumors].

The stained urine smears of 151 patients were cytologically examined. The correspondence between histological and cytological diagnosis of the urine was 72.3% in 101 tumours of the urinary bladder. 5 of 11 patients with histologically benign papillomas of the urinary bladder showed malignant cells in the sediment. After four weeks 3 of them could histologically be ascertained as papillary carcinomas. Cytological investigations of the urine are suited for the early recognition of tumours of the urinary bladder, but also for the period between operation and radiotherapy as well as in the dispensary care.

[Comparison of 2 isotope-nephrography-evaluation methods in normal pregnancy].

The isotope nephrograms of a total of 31 renally healthy pregnant women of different thirds of pregnancy are semiquantitatively investigated by 2 methods. The results are demonstrated graphically. This comparison show that a more correct result can be made with the describing method by taking a greater number of parameters describing the excretory phase.

Material and thickness: the important factors in the impact resistance of spectacle lenses.

The identify the population at risk of permanent visual impairment from injuries associated with spectacles, we analysed 446 cases of penetrating ocular injury occurring over a ten year period. Sixteen injuries (3.6%) were due to spectacles; 40% of these were adult male amateur athletes. We used the drop-ball test to determine the important factors in the resistance to impact of 177 used spectacle lenses (29 plastic C39, 40 heat-tempered glass, 108 non-tempered glass). We found that material and thickness were the most important. The plastic lenses were the most impact resistant and non-tempered glass lenses the least, with heat-tempered glass lenses falling between. Plastic lenses of adequate centre thickness mounted in plastic frames are recommended for all children and all adults involved in athletics.

[A comparison of isotope nephrographic examinations during pregnancy and hormonal contraception (author's transl)].

Renal function was investigated by isotope nephrography in 31 pregnant women with normal kidneys during various phases of pregnancy, and in 137 women on continuous contraceptive steroids (up to eight years). The semi-quantitative parameters of zum Winkel were used. It was found that the use of oral contraceptives did not lead to any change in renal function, whereas with advancing pregnancy there was distinct excretion delay on the isotope nephrogram. The results are discussed in the light of the relevant literature. Isotope nephrography appears to be a satisfactory screening test for evaluation of renal function on each side.

[Experimental results with different fractionation regimes and low-LET irradiation of mice (author's transl)].

The effect of several fractionation regimes was examined by the model of mammary tumour in C3H-mice. The best results were observed with several fractionations daily. No curative effect was obtained by means of a total dose of 6000 rd achieved with all fractionation regimes. The results of investigations underline the importance of considering cellular proliferation kinetic processes in malignant tumours in order to optimize the temporal distribution of radiation dose.

[On radiotherapy of the cheilocarcinoma (author's transl)].

A report is given on the results of radiotherapy in 82 cases of labial carcinoma admitted to the Radiological Clinic, Jena. The absolute 5 years' healing for primary tumours is 73,25%. The absolute 5 year's healing for relapses is 68,9%. The absolute 5 years' healing for regional lymph node metastases is 21,8%.

[Isotope nephrographic investigations after experimental unilateral fractionated irradiation of a kidney (author's transl)].

The left kidneys of rabbits were fractionally irradiated to a total dose of 6.000 R. Renal function was regularly monitored by isotope nephrography. Semiquantitative measurements (Zum Winkel) and comparison to the two sides (Bargon and Emrich) show changes in renal function in the functional and excretory phases; these, however, were less marked than after single dose irradiation. The results are discussed with reference to the relevant literature.
