Mask phenomenon: postemesis facial purpura.

A bizarre form of purpura seen on the face and neck after vigorous vomiting is described. Physicians should be familiar with this form of purpura since patients are very concerned about the mask that appears suddenly. Recovery is spontaneous, and no treatment is needed.

Cloxacillin-induced cholestatic jaundice.

A case of cholestatic jaundice after cloxacillin treatment is presented. Hepatotoxicity due to the drug was confirmed by inadvertent rechallenge and strongly positive tests for macrophage migration inhibitory factor and mast cell degranulation. The recognition of cholestatic hepatotoxicity due to oxacillin derivatives should help to avoid unnecessary invasive procedures in the evaluation of this reversible condition.

Autoerythrocyte sensitization (Gardner-Diamond syndrome) in men: a case report and review of the literature.

Autoerythrocyte sensitization (AES) is a rare syndrome particularly among males. A young male with typical AES is herewith described. We review all seven published cases of AES in men for which details are available and compare the age of onset, somatic manifestations, associated diseases and psychiatric disturbances between the sexes. We emphasize that the criteria essential for a diagnosis of AES should include typical clinical presentation, longstanding clinical history and a positive skin test with the patient's blood. Because of the rarity of AES there is a lack of awareness regarding it among many doctors.
