Linear IgM dermatosis of pregnancy.

An intensely pruritic dermatosis that occurred in a woman during the third trimester of pregnancy is described. The clinical manifestations included red follicular papules symmetrically distributed on the skin of the forearms, abdomen, thighs, and legs. The histopathologic findings were not specific. However, immunopathologic examination revealed dense linear deposition of IgM in the dermoepidermal junction. The eruption and the immunopathologic findings disappeared at the end of the puerperium. This dermatosis differs from previously described specific dermatoses of pregnancy because of the clinical appearance and the immunopathologic findings. Thus we propose the term linear IgM dermatosis of pregnancy.

Human orf in Israel. Report of three cases.

Orf, a viral disease of sheep and goats transmissible to man, is described in three patients living in Israeli cooperative settlements. Characteristically, the disease was manifested as a single, self-limited skin lesion in two of the patients, while in the third patient an unusual coexistence of orf and bullous pemphigoid was found. Not uncommonly, orf may be found in persons working with sheep and goats. Awareness of this disease by physicians may avoid unnecessary testing and treatments.

[An unusual histopathologic finding in polymorphic exanthema of pregnancy (itching, urticarial papules and plaques of pregnancy)].

We report on a 17-year-old primigravida with pruritic urticarial papules and plaques of pregnancy. Histopathologic examination revealed multiple dermal fibroblasts which almost disappeared after recovery. This unusual histologic feature has not been described in polymorphic eruption of pregnancy (pruritic urticarial papules and plaques and pregnancy) so far.

[Moniliform disease--new aspects].

We report on a 15-year-old boy suffering from acute morbus moniliformis. To the best of our knowledge, this cutaneous eruption in its acute form has not been described before. We think that morbus moniliformis is a unique dermatosis different from keratosis lichenoides chronica or lichen planus.

Cutaneous reactions to nifedipine.

Nifedipine, a calcium-channel-blocking agent, is widely used as an antianginal and antihypertensive drug. Cutaneous reactions to nifedipine are extremely rare. A review of the literature revealed only three additional cutaneous eruptions which include vasculitis, erythematous edema of the legs and erythromelalgia. We present the first case of fixed drug eruption due to nifedipine.

Sweet's syndrome and subacute thyroiditis.

A 63-year-old woman developed simultaneous occurrence of acute febrile neutrophilic dermatosis and subacute thyroiditis, thus suggesting that both diseases had a possible identical viral etiology. As far as we are aware, this is the first report of the association of Sweet's syndrome and subacute thyroiditis.

Pruritic urticarial papules and plaques of pregnancy. A review of 21 cases.

Twenty-one patients with pruritic urticarial papules and plaques of pregnancy (PUPPP) were reviewed. Direct immunofluorescence (DIF) examination was negative in all patients. DIF in patients with PUPPP is a useful and reliable laboratory aid in distinguishing this peculiar dermatosis from herpes gestationis.
