[Comparative effectiveness of the treatment od patients with hyperglycemic coma in diabetes mellitus with small and large doses of insulin].

The results of the study involving 123 patients suffering from hyperglycemic diabetic coma lead to the conclusion on ineffectiveness of high-dose insulin. Treatment of hyperglycemic coma by low-dose insulin is more preferable as warranting continuous decrease of glycemia without its transformation into hypoglycemia, ++post-hypoglycemia hyperglycemia, brain edema.

[The assessment of the efficacy of bitemporal inductothermy in the combined treatment of obesity].

To treat obese patients with arterial hypertension, bitemporal inductothermy was proposed. It was to be used in association with diet N 8 and drugs, improving trophism in brain cellular structures. The treatment led to reduction of body mass, normalization of arterial pressure without hypotensive drugs, improvements in lipidogram and physiological reaction of vasopressin-renin-aldosteron system.

[Influence of anthropogenic pollution on thyroid structure in Perm population].

The comparison of the thyroid structure in 73 Perm sitizens who died in the 1960s with that of 59 citizens who died in the 2000s revealed in the latter group symptoms of "tissue maladaptation" (retention of follicular colloid with cystic transformation of the follicles, lymphoplasma cell infiltration with oxyfilic thyrocytes transformation into B-cells, appearance of areas with a rough connective tissue in colloidrhagia and edema with capillary collapse, calcium deposits into the vessels and stroma). It is proven that these morphological changes are due to the effects of xenobiotics. Pronounced increase of heavy metals deposits in the thyroid by the 2000s was reported. Such thyroid pathomorphosis inevitably results in hypothyroidism.

[Hormonal aspects of the pathogenesis of arterial hypertension in young obese patients].

Measurements of blood lipids and hormones (plasma renin, aldosterone, vasopressin, prolactin, atrial natriuretic peptide, beta-endorphin, thyrotropin, thyroid hormones) in two groups of patients suffering from obesity (group 1: 64 patients with arterial hypertension and group 2: 26 patients with normal arterial pressure) have brought the authors to a conclusion that arterial hypertension in young obese patients is an early manifestation of essential hypertension. Hormonal dysfunction in obese patients is conducive to early development of essential hypertension in cases when there is a hereditary predisposition to it.

[Pathogenetic rationale for the treatment of obesity].

On the basis of experience gained in prolonged follow-up of 1095 obese patients, studies of their hormonal homeostasis using computer-aided cluster analysis the author comes to a conclusion that division of obesity cases into constitutional exogenous and hypothalamic is conditional. The hypothalamic syndrome develops in 100% of obesity cases. A course of pathogenetic therapy paralleled by a subcaloric diet and exercise therapy is suggested. Bitemporal inductothermy proved to be effective. The new complex for obesity treatment includes low-caloric diets combined with pathogenetic drug therapy and physiotherapeutic exposure of the mid-brain.
