[Results of surgically treated luxation fractures of the upper ankle joint (author's transl)].

113 patients were followed up after an average period of 27.2 months postoperatively following surgical treatment of luxation fractures of the ankle joint, from a closed series of 200 operations carried out in accordance with AO principles. Unsatisfactory late results were found in Type C in 38.6% of the cases, in the total group in 29.2% of the cases. The rate of infection was about 2%. One-third of the poor results were due to pre-arthrotic deformities or damages due to accidents; over and above this, surgico-technical complications led to unsatisfactory treatment results.

[Galactography-part of complex diagnosis for pathologically exudative mammae (author's transl)].

Thirty-one case histories of patients, most of them with pathological galactographic findings, were evaluated with view to assessing the diagnostic value of galactography, as compared to clinical examination, mammography, and cytological checks, all in the context of pathological nipple discharge. The histological result was used for reference. The highest amount of accuracy, in connection with growing and tissue displacing processes, was recorded from galactography. It, therefore, should be given an established position for early use in complex diagnosis.

[Ossifications of soft parts after operative treatment of luxation fractures of the ankle joint (author's transl)].

Operative treatment of luxation fractures of the ankle joint has caused a drop in poor late results, to one-quarter of the total number of patients compared with about one-half with the conservative procedure. Part of the unsatisfactory results is caused by ossifications in region of the interosseous membrane and tibiofibular syndesmoses. The incidence of such ossifications within a closed series of 200 own operatively treated cases was examined and pathogenetic factors were discussed. Further improvement of the treatment results of ankle joint fractures appears possible via subtle operation technique and omission of routine application of fixation screws for safeguarding lesions of the syndesmoses.

The reduced nicotinamide adenine nucleotide-activated phosphoenolpyruvate carboxylase from Pseudomonas MA. Further studies on regulatory properties.

Phosphoenolpyruvate carboxylase from Pseudomonas MA grown on methylamine as a sole carbon source is an allosteric enzyme activated by NADH. Activation is accompanied by a change in the sedimentation value of the enzyme from 12 S to 9 S. In this paper ADP is shown to be an inhibitor of the enzyme. ADP has its most potent effect on the NADH-activated enzyme. Kinetics of ADP inhibition in the presence of NADH and of NADH activation in the presence of ADP are allosteric. The presence of ADP prevents the decrease in sedimentation value in the presence of NADH. Cross-linking studies indicate that the 12 S form of the enzyme is a tetramer of identically sized subunits and that the 9 S form corresponds to a dimer. The cross-linked enzyme is active and is activated by NADH and inhibited by ADP. It is proposed that NADH and ADP are a regulatory pair for this enzyme and reflect the energy status of the organism, allowing the carboxylase to control the flow of carbon into anabolic or catabolic pathways.

[Therapy and healing results in corpus cancer (1954-1968)].

It is reported on the results of the therapy and healing of 603 female patients, who suffered from carcinoma corporis uteri and were treated in the period from 1954 to 1968. Operation with following irradiation was and is still the method of choice. In primary radiotherapy it is prefered applying endo-cavernous contact therapy in combination with percutaneous irradiation. The absolute healing rate was 60.4 per cent. But if the cases are evaluated, it will become evident that the total healing rate can only give evidence to a certain extent. Thus, stagerelated and relative healing should be considered much more important.

Topographic measurement of the superior vermian vein by lateral vertebral phlebography.

The position of the superior vermian vein (SVV) has been defined by means of an easily constructed triangular system with two fixed points and by determination of quotients of measured lengths or angles. 100 normal lateral vertebral phlebograms with well outlined SVV and accurate projection were thoroughly measured and calculated. Since SVV was found to occupy a constant position in the reference system used, certain quotients and angles might be suitable for diagnosis.
