[Value of the electrophoresis mobility test in the differential diagnosis of obscure kidney findings].

The differential diagnosis of unclear carcinoma-suspicious renal findings often finishes with the test-exposition and nephrectomy. Also when all modern diagnostic possibilities are used not always a clear establishment of the diagnosis may be achieved. The cell electrophoresis mobility test after Field and Caspary may contribute to the differential-diagnostic clarification of the findings, when adequate antigens are used. For this purpose 10 own cases are discussed and these results are compared with suitable comparative groups. Summarizingly by the present study can be shown that the immunologic diagnostics of tumours in the field of unclear renal tumours may be a very good help in the diagnostics. When adequate antigens are used in the cell electrophoresis mobility test a coordination concerning the histospecificity can be achieved.

[Separation of cellular and viral DNA polymerase from oncornavirus infected chicken cells].

RNA-directed DNA polymerase was isolated from the liver, spleen, and myeloblasts of chickens that had been infected with virus of avian myeloblastosis. The enzyme was chromatographically purified from the myeloblasts and brought to about 1,000-fold concentration. The method consisted in cell fractionation, lysis of the microsomal fraction, chromatography on Sephadex G-200 and phosphocellulose, as well as ultracentrifugation in the glycerol gradient. The cellular DNA polymerases alpha and beta were clearly separated from the DNA polymerase of avian myeloblastosis virus and could be distinguished from one another by template-specific reactions. The viral DNA polymerase activities in the microsomal fractions of liver, spleen, and myeloblasts were compared with one another. The amount of avian myeloblastosis virus and related DNA polymerase recorded from the myeloblasts was about six times that in the liver and four times higher than that in the spleen. The procedure described, together with the use of cell fractionation and gel filtration, is an appropriate method for biochemical detection of avian oncorna viruses in cells.

[Significance of liver biopsy for the diagnosis of occupational liver lesions (histopathological examination)].

Report on the morphological assay of liver biopsies of 29 patients after acute or long-term influence of industrial poisons (pesticides, solvents). There were observed cytotoxic lesions with differently marked non-specific reactive hepatitis, the retrogression of which is demonstrated by repeated biopsies. As a rule a restoration took place after one year. Transitions in chronic liver diseases were not seen. It is referred to the particular importance to perform the first biopsy as much as early after the clinical discovery of such lesions of the liver.

[Determination of blood coagulation in acute obstetrical and gynecologic hemorrhages by means of the Hellige direct writing thrombelastograph].

Thrombelastography, as a method of rapid registration, is an important addition to the present screening tests of coagulation status. With this method we are able to quickly obtain exact values for clotting and fibrinolysis with more precision than those which can be obtained from the clot observation test. The TEG monitor must however be available in the immediate vicinity of the labour ward and must be ready for use around the clock. Specific therapy for the elimination of failures in hemostasis may then be started without delay, due to prompt determination of coagulation status and early detection of fibrinolysis.

[The clinical significance of hyperuricemia for the prognosis of pregnancy toxemia].

This study demonstrates that uric acid serum levels are of importance in the prognosis of pregnancy complicated by hypertension. In early pregnancy the uric acid level probably is the most sensitive parameter to select the risk-prone pregnancies with EPH-gestosis to conduct the further course of pregnancy under medical care. Pregnant hypertensives with high uric acid levels develop more often retardation of the fetus, the incidence of eclampsia increases. In case of hypertension in pregnancy complicated by high uric acid levels careful monitoring and normalizing high blood pressure under medical observation improves the prognosis for fetus and mother.

[Bronchial adenoma with uncommon growth (author's transl)].

Report on a bronchial adenoma in the right lobus inferior pulmonalis (autopsy: histological bronchial adenoma from carcinoid type) of uncommon size and with growth till now not described. The tumor was diagnosed clinically and histologically 4 years before death of the patient, but was not operated. The tumor has continuously infiltrated the left atrium cordis via a vena pulmonalis. This case is stressing the decisive importance of the early diagnosis of bronchial adenoma.

[Twin pregnancy in a patient with Glanzmann disease (congenital thrombasthenia) (author's transl)].

Report on a 30-year old primigravida with a family history of bleeding and a personal history of nasopharyngeal bleeding since age four. Severe menorrhagia since her menarche. First seen at 20 weeks gestation with naso-pharyngeal bleeding and a twin pregnancy. The patient was found to have Glanzmann's disease (congenital thrombasthenia) with an excessive lack of factor XIII. Ambulatory treatment with packed cell transfusions until 35 weeks gestation. The thrombelastogram did not improve with transfusions of platelet concentrates. In-patient treatment from 35 to 37 weeks gestation, no vaginal bleeding throughout the pregnancy. Elective Caesarean hysterectomy at 37 weeks gestation with lo units fresh blood, 3 units platelet concentrate and 10 ampules factor XIII concentrate in readiness. Delivery of twin girls 3180 and 3050 g without signs of Glanzmann's disease. Treatment of the maternal bleeding by replacement. Factor XIII 80% of normal 8 weeks postpartum. This appears to be the first case of twin pregnancy in the presence of Glanzmann's disease and the fourth case in the world literature.

Purification of RNA-directed DNA polymerase from mouse spleen infected with Rauscher leukemia virus.

RNA-directed DNA polymerase was purified from spleens of Balb/c and NMRI mice infected with Rauscher murine leukemia virus. The method includes cell fractionation and lysis of microsomal fraction, chromtography on Sephadex G-200 and phosphocellulose. Estimation of molecular weight from the sedimentation rate of the purified enzyme in a glycerol gradient was consistent with a structure containing one polypeptide with a molecular weight of 70,000. Purified RLV DNA polymerase from spleen could transcribe purified DNA polymerase from purified virions. This simple preparation method offers a procedure for large scale preparation of the RNA-directed DNA polymerase which can be used for synthesis of DNA complementary to mRNA.

[The hidden intrauterine device].

The hidden intrauterine device (IUD) may result because of disapperance of the tails into the uterus, unobserved loss of the device and perforation. The localization can be estimated by sonography, x-ray and probing of the uterine cavity. In most of the cases the device can be removed without hospitalization, surgical procedures are rarely neccessary. If pregnancy did occur the hidden intrauterine device cannot be removed without termination of the pregnancy in most cases.

[Use of seat belts by pregnant women].

There are almost no pregnant women who never use a motorcar. The safety in crashes is diminished by mistakes in contruction and handling of the safety-equipment. Only every fourth woman can be regarded as properly protected. It should be the task of the physician to instruct his pregnant patients in the use of the seat belt.
