The paper presents further investigations for a critical survey on the influences of drugs on laboratory methods. In controversion to the meanings you can find in the literature that ascorbic acid is most one of the important drugs to interfere with laboratory results we couldn't see in our systematical experimental investigation such results. Only in very extremly cases it seems to be right. Selected parameters of clinical chemistry (glucose, lactic dehydrogenase, aspartal-aminotransferase, alanine aminotransferase, alkaline phosphatase, protein, albumine, creatinine, butanol extractable iodine, ferrum) show under therapeutic conditions no influences of ascorbic acid, which can lead to diagnostic or therapeutic false interpretations. Above all the often mentioned example that glucose estimations in blood (reduction methods) can disturb if ascorbic acid is present, is abstracted in an uncritical manner how our experimental results may show.
In patients with shock the metabolism and O2-function of the erythrocytes were studied following separation according to cell-age by density layer centrifugation using a new supporting medium. Metabolic acidosis in patients with postoperative shock (n=8) and in patients with shock due to severe congestive heart failure (n=12) provoked decreased levels of 2,3-diphosphoglycerate, ADP, ATP and reduced glutathione. Raised lactate/pyruvate ratios were observed also in both groups, whereas the O2-function of the erythrocytes was markedly disturbed in all patients. Patients of both groups received glucocorticoid-infusions resulting in a significant improvement of the extent and pattern of the red cell metabolic disorder.

An experimental setup has been built to correct the errors caused by overlapping 'ghost' images when scanning and integrating measurements are carried out with the Jamin-Libedef interference microscope. First a reference field with the object, producing the 'ghost' image, is scanned and the values of the optical path difference (OPD) of each point in the reference field are stored in a computer. Subsequently, the OPD of the object to be measured is calculated for each point by adding the measuring result to the average OPD of five points, located around the corresponding point in the reference field. The applicability of the setup has been tested by measurements with Sepharose beads, Hela cells and the Zeiss microinterference refractometer. The difference between measurements on the same object with and without overlapping 'ghost' image was about 10%. The reproducibility was tested by repeated measurements on the same cell whereby a standard deviation of 1.1% was found.
Twenty-two commercially available composites, a new resin without inorganic filler and two amalgams have been investigated to compare their abrasive behaviour. In laboratory tests, an abrasion model of tooth against filling has been simulated. The results indicate a dependence of the abrasive behaviour on the type of filler in the different composites. Composites with quartz as filler have the greatest resistance to abrasion, whereas those with lithium-aluminium-silicate show the strongest abrasion. Mean abrasion values are obtained for the composites with barium-glass or a mixture of barium-glass and quartz as filler. The resin and the two amalgams have abrasion values comparable to the abrasive resistant composites.
The antidepressants trimipramine and imipramine were compared within the framework of a multiclinical study performed under the conditions of a controlled clinical experiment. There has been found a time-different remission of affective und psychomotoric symptoms. The panthymoleptic action of trimipramine and other antidepressants is discussed with reference to these results. Trimipramine influences psychotic states, especially if in depression anxiety is combined with agitation, also in hypochondriac forms of depression.

75 Patients were treated with Prostaglandin-F2 alpha-gel intracervical to ripe the cervix prior to first trimester abortion. In all patients we get the wanted effect with Prostaglandin-gel. Priming of the cervix seemed to be especially needed with PG-gel in young patients with first pregnancy.

The goal of treating postoperative ileus must be decompression of the intestine in order to prevent further development of the disease. Two different methods are available: (1) closed decompression (a) by stripping the intestine orally or aborally, or (b) through an intraluminal intestinal tube, and (2) open decompression through enterotomy. Because stripping of the intestine leads to traumatization of the intestinal wall, suction through an intraluminal intestinal tube can be considered preservative. Preoperatively, the tube is inserted through the nose into the stomach and from there is directed through the pylorus and the duodenum into the upper jejunum. Decompression of the intestine with a long intestinal tube also permits prophylactic intestinal splinting and prevents additional adhesions, kinking, and resulting new ileus conditions.
One of the stated goals of the abdominal surgeon is to find a sure prophylaxis for the threat of ileus due to adhesions. The numerous conservative methods, such as intra-abdominal dispensing of campher oil, olive oil, etc., are viewed in relation to the operative procedures of small intestine plication according to Nobel and mesenteric plication according to Child. Both operations, however, are accompanied by numerous complications. Inner intestinal splints with long tubes have proved efficacious in the prophylaxis of adhesions in early postoperative ileus. The tube is doubly effective: It relieves the intestine and thereby aids in better microcirculation of the intestinal wall and simultaneously guarantees a splinting of the intestine in the physiologically correct position. On the average, the tube is removed after 12-14 days.

The antidepressants desipramine and imipramine were compared within the framework of a multiclinical study performed under the conditions of a controlled clinical experiment. There has been found a time-different remission of affective symptoms, which was not detectable for the inhibition of drive. The tachythymoleptic action of desipramine is discussed with reference to these results. Evaluation of the possibility of controlling affects shows different ranges of activity of desipramine and imipramine, with desipramine influencing especially negative psychoenergetic symptoms in the area of drives and emotions and imipramine, restrictive symptoms in addition to differential phenomena of the psychomotor expression.

The procedure described using UV-irradiation and surgical removement of the renal capsule leads to the development of anastomoses between the spleen and the kidney. The collaterals are able to divert blood from the portal system to the surface of the kidney and then to the renal vein and the iliac veins systems. The procedure is easily performed and well tolerated.
