Two cases of multifocal progressive leukoencephalopathy are reported. A 62 years old patient suffering from lymphosarcomatosis for more than 5 years developed neurological symptoms and died 7 weeks after their onset. In a 44 years old patient a kidney transplantation was performed. 6 months after that operation he developed a disorder of the central nervous system and died 3 weeks later. Post-mortem examinations revealed the characteristic morphological findings of multifocal leukoencephalopathy in both the cases. Electron microscopic examination of the brain tissue obtained at autopsy demonstrated virions in paracristalline arrangement within the nuclei of oligodendrocytes. These findings are identical with those reported in literature, that were regarded as papova-viruses. Therefore, it is suggested to name the disease a papova-virus-encephalitis.
The quartary and quintary hyperparathyroidism is observed following a primary hyperparathyroidism, in which the removal of the adenoma of the parathyroid did not lead to a reduction of the process of the disease. The nephropathy which developed during the basic disease and continued to exist after the operation leads to repeated consequences for the mineral metabolism which cause a condition of parathyroidal load and after this again an adenomatous process. The author adopts a definite attitude to the problems of heuristic biochemical parameters and generally to the question of such consecutive reactions.
Post-mortem findings from 1960 to 1975 are checked for the incidence of neurofibromatosis and optic nerve glioma. Possible genetic causes of these tumors, gained by genealogic examinations of 5 patients operated on for optic nerve glioma, are discussed.
In continuation of previous own investigations 68 heart tumours including 46 early stages were found in the heart of 590 BD IX rats systematically examined after treatment with methylnitrosourea (MNU) or ethylnitrosourea (ENU). The tumour incidence was about 40% in animals treated by repeated intravenous or intraperitoneal injections of 20 mg per kg body weight MNU. These experiments are suitable for the study of early stages and the histogenetic origin of heart tumours. At present MNU in addition to triazenes (table 5) belongs to the most powerful carcinogens which affect the heart in rats.

In 49 autopsies on patients with generalized malignant lymphomas a thorough histological examination of the CNS was performed. Isolated neoplastic foci were found in the CNS in 10 cases. It is believed that most of the tumour infiltrations in the CNS as a result of neoplastic transformation of local mesenchymal cells and are not blood-borne metastases.
I presume the technique of quilt-plasty is already well known, Experience has shown that preserving the anterior tympanomeatal angle with the quilt-plasty leads to a better fixation and thus a better vascular supply. The success rate could be improved spontaneously both anatomically and audiologically. We use this method especially for subtotal and total defects in spite of the risk of a secondary perforation developing during the healing process. These tend to be much smaller than the primary perforations and may be dealt with in outpatients by a revision operation. 2195 ear operations were performed in three years, 1204 were tympanoplasties. 18 secondary perforations were seen with the quilt-plasties. They either healed spontaneously or were finally closed with a small operative revision in ambulant patients, The quilt-plasty is thus our method of choice.
