Semiclassical coupled wave theory for TM waves in one-dimensional photonic crystals.

Semiclassical coupled wave theory is extended to waves with the electric field polarized parallel to the plane of incidence (TM waves) in one-dimensional periodic dielectric structures. Using this theory, the bandwidths and reflection/transmission characteristics of such structures, as functions of the incident wave frequency, are in good agreement with exact numerical simulations even for very high refractive index contrast.

Semiclassical coupled-wave theory and its application to TE waves in one-dimensional photonic crystals.

A semiclassical coupled-wave theory is developed for TE waves in one-dimensional periodic structures. The theory is used to calculate the bandwidths and reflection/transmission characteristics of such structures, as functions of the incident wave frequency. The results are in good agreement with exact numerical simulations for an arbitrary angle of incidence and for any achievable refractive index contrast on a period of the structure.

Green's function analysis of electromagnetic waves in two-layered periodic structures with fluctuations in thickness.

A general method for the construction of the Green's function for finite one-dimensional inhomogeneous layers is developed. Using the results of this method the exact analytical Green's function for periodic dielectric structures is found. As an example of its application, the influence of fluctuations of the widths of the basic layers on the reflection and transmission of electromagnetic waves propagating through the structure is investigated. The results are applied to the design of optical switching systems with periodic dielectric structures as the operating medium. The same Green's function can be used to solve a wide variety of other problems.

[The humoral immunity characteristics of women with neurotic depressions].

The levels of autoantibodies and their anti-idiotypes to proteins of nervous tissue (S100b, GFAP, MP65 and nerve growth factor) were studied in 85 women of 18-48 years of age with psychogenic neurotic depressions. It was found that the changes of the levels of autoantibodies to the proteins of nervous tissue correspond to various somatoautonomic manifestations and correlate with severity of depression, its typological variations and duration of the disease. The data obtained show a close relationship between nervous and immune systems that was expressed by some parallelism of the dynamics of the changes of both neurotic depressive symptoms and serum immunoreactivity to neuroantigens.

Switching of electromagnetic waves by two-layered periodic dielectric structures.

The propagation of electromagnetic waves in two-layered periodic dielectric structures is investigated. The systematic dependence of the reflection coefficient on the parameters characterizing the structure is studied in detail. Using results of this exact analysis we investigate the influence of variation of the structure parameters on the reflection and transmission coefficients. As an example, we consider the changes in the structure parameters under an elastic stress. We show that under practically realizable conditions the reflection and transmission of the electromagnetic wave can be changed by as much as 80-90 % by creating a constant elastic stress inside the structure.

[The treatment of neurotic depression by using extremely high-frequency electromagnetic radiation].

Extremely high frequencies of electromagnetic waves (EHF-therapy) were used for the treatment of 53 women with asthenic, anxious and combined forms of depressions together with other methods (psychopharmacological treatment and psychotherapy). The control group which consisted of 27 analogous patients was treated without EHF-therapy. In the former group the recovery was observed in 50.9% of cases, considerable improvement in 41.5% and the improvement in 7.6% of cases. Meanwhile in the control group the treatment resulted in the recovery in 3.7%, in the considerable improvement in 48.1%, in the improvement in 40.7%, of cases. No clinical changes occurred in the rest control patients. The highest therapeutical effect was observed in patients with asthenic neurotic depression (recovery in 66.7%).

[Identification, purification and physico-chemical properties of neurospecific alpha 1-globulin].

The partially purified and concentrated 500-600-folds protein fraction has been obtained from human brain extract. This protein fraction was used for the immunization of rabbits. The corresponding anti-sera have the potency to detect the brain specific alpha 1-globulin, which is not identical to known cytoplasmatic brain specific protein. These antisera were used for the control of the antigen purification procedure which included ion-exchange, affinity and hydropho'ic chromatography, gel-filtration and isochromatofocusing. The antigen, purified to the homogeneity, has the electrophoretic mobility of the alpha 1-globulins, M(r) = 110-10 kD, and isoelectric point at pH 2.9-3.1.

Fatty acid acylated Fab-fragments of antibodies to neurospecific proteins as carriers for neuroleptic targeted delivery in brain.

A method for targeted delivery of neuroleptics from blood in brain based on using Fab-fragments of antibodies to antigens of brain glia cells (acid gliofibrillar antigen and alpha 2-glycoprotein) is suggested. The essence of the technique is that the molecule of neuroleptic (trifluoperazine) is conjugated with Fab-fragments of these antibodies. The conjugate thus obtained is modified by stearoylchloride in the system of Aerosol OT reversed micelles in octane. The study of the distribution of 125I-labelled conjugates in the rat organism after intracordial introduction is performed. On the contrary to the nonmodified conjugates and conjugate, containing fatty acylated Fab-fragments of antibodies, nonspecific to the rat brain, the conjugate of trifluoperazine with stearoylated Fab-fragments of antibodies to neurospecific antigens accumulate in brain tissues. The drastic increase of the neuroleptic activity of trifluoperazine resulting from its coupling with stearoylated Fab-fragments of antiglial antibodies is observed.

[Identification, isolation and physico-chemical properties of neurospecific alpha2-globulin].

In the immunization process of rabbits with the protein fraction of the water-salt extract from human brain partially and concentrated at 500-600 times was received antiserum revealed brain specific alpha 2-globulin that is not identical to the known cytoplasmatic brain specific antigens. This antigen has got electrophoretic mobility of alpha 2-globulins, molecular weight 90 +/- 10 kD and isoelectric point 4.1-5.4. Develop the procedure for purification of this antigen on the basis of the combination ion change, affinity, hydrophobic chromatography gel-filtration and isochromatofocusing.

The neuroleptic activity of haloperidol increases after its solubilization in surfactant micelles. Micelles as microcontainers for drug targeting.

It has been suggested to use surfactant micelles as microcontainers for increasing the efficiency of neuroleptic targeting from blood flow into the brain. The neuroleptic action of haloperidol, intraperitoneally injected into mice in micellar solution of non-ionic block copolymer surfactant (pluronic P-85) in water, increased several-fold if compared with that observed for haloperidol aqueous solution. Incorporation of brain-specific antibodies into haloperidol-containing micelles resulted in additional drastic increase (more than by 2 orders of magnitude) in the drug effect.

[Immunoenzyme detection of specific brain antigens as a criterion of the permeability of the hemato-encephalic barrier in rats following acute gamma irradiation].

The immunoenzyme detection systems for the measurement of the alpha-2 globulin of the brain (alpha 2M) and glial fibrillary acidic antigens (GFAP) were developed. These systems were used for the study of the penetration through hemato-encephalic barrier in rats subjected to gamma radiation. This method is recommended for the indirect evaluation of the hemato-encephalic barrier functional disorders.

[Immunoenzymatic detection of specific brain antigens as a criterion of the permeation of blood-brain barrier in rats with acute cerebral ischemia].

EIA detection system for the measurement of alpha 2 M globulin and GFAP antigen has been developed. The limit of the sensibility was only 1 ng/ml for alpha 2M and 0.8 ng/ml for GFAP. The system was used for the studies of the penetration through the blood-brain barrier in rats with experimental acute brain ischemia. The measurement of alpha 2M and GFAP antigens by EIA technique 16-20 hours after the occlusion of the carotid artery has revealed disturbances in the blood-brain barrier permeability for specific brain proteins. The method is recommended for indirect evaluation of the blood-brain barrier functional disorders.
