[Serologic shifts in food poisoning by 1 and 2 infectious agents].

Features of serological shifts in patients with alimentary toxicoinfections (ATI) caused by one infective agent (E. coli, staphilococci, Proteus, enterococci) and by two infective agents in various combinations have been studied. The suppression of immunogenesis has been found to be most pronounced in patients having ATI mixed according to agglutinin titers to the autostrains of infective agents. The features of serological shifts in mixed ATI should be taken into consideration in evaluating the diagnostic significance of this reaction in the time course of the disease.

[Spread of Yersinia among patients with acute intestinal infections].

During 1979 a large-scale study of fecal samples obtained from patients with acute intestinal infections was carried out with the aim of establishing the presence of Yersinia. As a result, 9 Y. enterocolitica strains and 7 Y. pseudotuberculosis strains were isolated. Y. enterocolitica were classified with serovars O8, O3, and O5B and with biovars 2, 3, and 4; Y. pseudotuberculosis were classified with serovars 1 and 3. The isolation of Yersinia facilitated the identification of the etiological structure of acute intestinal infections.

[Effectiveness of social hygiene and organized preventive measures in dysentery in preschool institutions].

The work presents the data on the development and realization of the complex of social and hygienic, as well as organizational and preventive measures for dysentery control at institutions for children of preschool age in one of the regions of our country. This complex comprises the improvement of "epidemiological" knowledge of the staff, preventive orientation in the work of the epidemiological section of the local Sanitary Epidemiological Station, the spread of sanitary and hygienic knowledge children and in their families, the improvement of material and technical equipment of children's institutions. The complex proved to be highly effective: at institutions for children of preschool age morbidity -ate in dysentery decrease 4--5 times, and its specific falue dropped from 40% to 5.4%, the frequency of positive results given by tests for the presence of intestinal microflora in washings from various objects decreased more than 25 times. Morbidity rate at institutions for children of preschool age decreased 4--5 times as compared with that among children not attending such institutions. The above data suggest the necessity of introducing this experience in other regions of our country.

[Biological properties of strain of Yersinia enterocolitica isolated from humans].

A total of 1300 patients were examined; this number included patients suffering from food poisoning and with suspected dysentery hsopitalized at the isolation hospital; patients with diarrheal diseases under observation of the intestinal unit of the sanitary-epidemiological station, and patients with acute or exacerbation of chronic affection of the bile tracts. A total of 28 Yersinia enterocolitical strains were isolated from these patients, this constituting 2.1% of the total number os examinations. The strains isolated were typical by ciological properties and were referred to the 3rd and 9th serological and the 3rd and 4th biochemical types.
