Methicillin-oxacillin resistant strains of Staphylococcus aureus (MORSA) in infected burn wounds.

Among 204 strains isolated from infected burn wounds of 188 patients in the years 1987-1989 resistance to methicillin and oxacillin was found in 116 Staphylococcus aureus strains (group A). They accounted for 56.6% of the isolates. These data were compared with those of 1815 strains isolated from surgical cases in which 901 were MORSA strains (group B). In both groups MORSA were tested for their sensitivity to 9 various antibiotics. They were most sensitive to vancomycin and cefamandole.

The influence of balneotherapy on T-cell populations and direct lymphocytotoxicity in patients with vascular disorders of lower limbs.

A significant favourable effect of the balneological treatment on the RFC markers of peripheral blood lymphocytes was shown, with the exception of cases of thromboangiitis obliterans. The obtained results are a trial of using simple immunological tests for evaluation of the effectiveness of balneological treatment.

Immune reactivity and clinical stage of patients with laryngeal cancer.

Selected parameters of the immune system were determined in vivo and vitro in 200 patients with malignant tumours of the larynx in various stages of clinical progression before surgical treatment. The comparison of the results with those in control groups of healthy persons made division of the patients possible into groups (a, b, c, d), and statistical analysis of the differences. The distribution of the patients according to the mean values of these parameters showed that such parameters as: white blood cell count, absolute lymphocyte count, absolute granulocyte count, receptor activity of T-cells and enzymatic activity of peripheral blood neutrophils may have characteristic values in laryngeal cancer. Particularly significant from the standpoint of prognostic value were the results of delayed hypersensitivity response to protein pure derivative (PPD), phytohaemagglutinin (PHA) and streptokinase-streptodornase (SK-SD).
