[Tertiary hyperparathyroidism following kidney transplants in man treated by parathyroidectomy and parathyroid autografts. A report on 8 cases (author's transl)].

Hyperparathyroidism developed in 8 of 76 patients two months to 4 years after functional Kidney transplants, the most constant manifestation being a hypercalcemia. Raised PTH levels were present in all 7 patients in whom they were measured. The 8 patients were treated by total parathyroidectomy, followed in 7 cases by an autograft of a parathyroid fragment into the muscle off one forearm, according to the technique described by wells. Blood calcium levels became normal in all cases after one month. PTH levels also returned to normal except in one case where rejection of the Kidney graft caused a reduction in renal function. Comparing PTH levels in the venous blood on the side of the autograft with that on the opposite side demonstrated that the parathyroid graft was actively secreting.

[Placental sulfatase deficiency and sex-linked recessive ichthyosis. Two cases found in two sisters (author's transl)].

The diagnosis of placental sulfatase deficiency was made at the same time in two sisters who were pregnant. This is the first case history reported of two women who were carriers of this abnormality and who were linked by parentage. The inborn error of metabolism was able to be found in its post-natal state in two of the sons of one of the women in the form of retention cutaneous ichthyosis of a sex-linked type.

Steroid concentrations in human myometrial and placental tissues at week 39 of pregnancy.

Endogenous levels of P, E1, and E2 were determined by radioimmunoassay in human myometrium and placenta at week 39 of pregnancy. In the myometrium, P and estrogens were higher in the inner layer near the placenta than in other zones. Higher E2/P ratios were found in placental sites. A large difference in the E2/P ratios was observed between placenta and corresponding adjacent myometrial area, indicating an easier diffusion of E2 from the site of its production.

[Use of SDS and saponin detergents for the demonstration and purification of (Na+K+)ATPase in sheep kidney].

Incubation of membrane fragments from sheep kidney outer medulla in detergents such as SDS or saponin revealed increased specific (NA+) ATPase activity. Measurement of enzyme phosphorylation from [gamma 32P] ATP showed irreversible alteration of EP to (Na+) ATPase activity ratio when SDS is used as unmasking agent. These results were found with unmasked and purified enzyme.

[Septicemia due to an unusual micro-organism: Actinobacillus actinomycetum comitans (author's transl)].

A new case of septicemia (without endocarditis) due to Actinobacillus actinomycetum comitans is described. The patient was a 59-year-old man with an intraventricular pacemaker. He was successfully treated by a combination of gentamicin and ampicillin. Human infections due to this demanding and slow-growing micro-organism, which is not related to actinomycosis, are only exceptionally reported. In 73% of the cases the endocarditis is subacute. The study of the literature demonstrates the prevalence of male patients and the usual absence of leukocytosis.
