[The relation between melorheostosis and tumors].

Melorheostosis was diagnosed in a 13 year old female. Two years later an x-ray of the skull showed an calcified intracerebral mass. At the age of 18 years the patient died. The autopsy confirmed the diagnosis of melorheostosis and revealed a meningioma of falx cerebri in close proximity to predominantly intraventricular calcified tissue. A neurinoma of the left acoustic nerve was also found. In the literature melorheostosis has been anecdotally described in combination with nevi, hemangiomas, pelvic lipoma, lipoma of the spinal cord, chondrofibromas of the median nerve, tuberous sclerosis and neurofibromatosis. The nature of the relationship between melorheostosis and neoplasms has not been clarified. Those observations as well as the present report indicate an increased frequency of tumors (particularly of the nervous system) in patients with melorheostosis.

[Intrathecal methotrexate--overdosing in pediatric lymphoblastic leukemia].

Intrathecal methotrexate-overdosage in the meningosis therapy leads to CNS damages dependent on dose. It was given a own case report and a literature review with clinical symptoms and the therapy in this complication. Neuropathologic findings included demyelinisation und necrosis of the white matter.

Brain Diseases↗

[Penis metastases of a bronchial cancer].

Report on a 45-year-old man with massive haematogenic metastasation of a bronchial carcinoma into the penis. Reference to the rarity of the findings, ways of metastasation, tumorous spectre of the metastases, differential diagnosis and clinical symptoms.

It was as early as on the 14th day post injection that a significant alteration of PPF towards initial and control values could be found. Causes and possible consequences are discussed.

Immunocytochemical characterisation of human pituitary adenomas.

Immunohistochemical and histological investigations were undertaken on 24 surgically-removed pituitary adenomas. By histology (haemalu-eosin staining), 7 chromophobe, 12 acidophil and 5 basophil pituitary adenomas were revealed. For immunohistochemical purposes the peroxidase-antiperoxidase technique was applied. Primary antisera against 10 hormones were used. By immunohistochemistry, 7 prolactin-containing, 2 TSH-containing, 2 GH-containing and 1 beta-endorphin-containing pituitary adenomas were identified. Furthermore, 1 mixed thyrotropic-prolactin human pituitary adenoma was detected. A possible connection between histological and immunocytochemical findings is discussed.

Adenoma↗

[Primary splenic cyst].

Report on a splenic cyst in a 48-year-old female. On the basis of the post-mortem findings as well as of the survey of literature discussion of etiology, differential diagnosis and diagnostics. It is referred to the significance of the OSPI syndrome as possible sequela of splenectomy.

Discussion of the morphologic findings as well as reference to the multiple occurrence of adenopathies from the APUD cell system.
