CSF-changes of HVA and 5-HIAA during intermittent and continuous Parkinson therapy with particular regard to prodipin application.

The influence of prodipin, a putative dopamine releasing compound, on the concentration of homovanillic acid (HVA) and 5-hydroxyindoleacetic acid (5-HIAA) in the spinal liquor of 28 patients with Parkinson's disease was investigated. The patients were divided into three groups. In group 1 the combined antiparkinson therapy was interrupted, and 20 mg prodipin was infused. In group 2 and 3 the therapy was continued, while an additional 20 mg of prodipin was administered by infusion only to group 3. 4 Liquor-samples were obtained from each patient: 1 basic value and three additional samples 5, 8 and 24 hours after administration of 2 g probenecid. The base concentration of HVA was 15 ng/ml and this was not increased by probenecid in group 1; the concentration of 5-HIAA was 11.6 ng/ml and this was doubled by probenecid to 22.9 ng/ml. The HVA concentration increased to a maximum of 28.9 ng/ml during continued therapy (group 2); the elevated 5-HIAA remained unchanged. Prodipin does not cause an alteration in metabolite concentration in cases of interrupted therapy (group 1), but leads, in the case of continued therapy, to a 1.8-fold increase in HVA, and a 1.6-fold increase in 5-HIAA (group 3).

[Surgical therapy of cervix cancer and its compications. (Experience report from 1970-1976 at the Gynecologic Clinic of the Cottbus District Hospital].

Clinical report on the carcinoma of the uterine cervix in 263 patients seen between January 1, 1970 and December 31, 1976 are reported. 190 patients were operated. 73 cases were assigned to irradiation treatment. This corresponds to an operation frequency of 72,5 per cent. The vaginal radical operation according to Schauta-Stoeckel was prefered (69,5%). The most patients were operated in FIGO-stage I b (43,2%). In 4,15 per cent wounded neighbour-organs, most the bladder (2,97%) Frequency of fistula was 1,78%. In all instances the fistula can be corrected. 5-year recovery is 83,95%.

Adult↗

[Abortion complications and their effect on subsequent pregnancies].

About complications in 2147 interruptions of pregnancy, carried out between February 15, 1974 and December 31, 1976 was reported.--48,4 per cent was nullipare or primipare. The rate of early complications was 5,28 per cent. During the period of report 7,03 per cent of patients became pregnant again. The fates from these pregnancy were following: 37,6 per cent interruptions of pregnancy once more. 15,2 per cent abortion and 18,4 per cent premature birth. Prenatal mortality was 3,1 per cent.

Abortion, Legal↗

[Induced abortion using intrauterine, extra-amniotic administration of prostaglandin F2 alpha in primigravidae].

With 115 nulliparae abortion was induced through intermittend extraamniotic application of PG F2alpha. The intermittend PG-application was successful in 99.13% (81.73% incomplete abortions; 17.40% "missed abortions" with opening of the cervix uteri). In the opposite to others authors "missed abortion" looks as a good result. The mean PG-Dosis was 14,33 mg and the abortion time 15,40 hours.--The rate of morbidity was 6,1 per cent.

The influence of age and drugs on the thermoregulatory behaviour of rats.

A method is described which allows to measure thermoregulatory effective conditioned behaviour in rats. This method makes it possible to vary the preset ambient temperature (Ta) in a wide range. The results only deal with subnormal Ta (normal housing temperature 23 degrees C). Rats are able to acquire a conditioned behaviour additional to inborn behaviour which is adequate to contribute to thermal homoeostasis. Exposed to -4 degrees C adult animals adjusted their mean Ta to +4 degrees C, old animals to +8 degrees C. A dose of 40 micromol/kg Phentolamine caused adult rats to adjust mean temperature to +9 degrees C, old rats to +13.5 degrees C. But even this increased behavioural activity did not prevent the hypothermic effect of the drug totally. Core temperature in adult animals dropped by 0.8 degrees C, in old animals by 1.4 degrees C.

[A simple method for the synthesis of phosphatidylcholine with the fatty acid substituted in the 2-position].

The preparation of PC with the 14C-fatty acids palmitic, stearic, oleic and linoleic acid at OH-group in position 2 is described. The starting material is egg yolk lecithin. By the attack of snake venom phospholiphase lyso-PC is produced which is reacylated by the appropriate fatty acid anhydride. In comparison with the methods published up to now this preparation has the advantage of higher yields and greater simplicity. By means of in vivo synthesis it is impossible to get PC species with only one fatty acid in a defined position. Working with radioactive fatty acids the specific radioactivity can be adapted to the requirements. The procedure can be made on a semi-technical scale.

[A method for determination of thermally motivated behavior (author's transl)].

Constant body temperature in homeothermic organisms results from autonomic and behavioral thermoregulatory reactions. The input variables for thermally motivated behavior are temperatures of the skin and of the hypothalamus. Our aim was to determine the behavioral side of thermoregulatory reactions under the influence of drugs interfering with normal body temperature. Initial experiments were made with phentolamine, which at an ambient temperature of + 4 degrees C causes a dose dependent hypothermia. Rats were trained in a cold box to press a lever and were rewarded by a certain amount of warm air. Trained rats were able to raise the temperature in the box from -4 degrees C up to + 4 degrees C at a response rate of 0.5 min. Treated with phentolamine (3.7-15 mg/kg) these rats increased the rate of lever pressing dose dependently, i.e. they increased their ambient temperature. The hypothermic effect of the drug was therby reduced to a certain extent. Using this method it can be determined whether a drug influences body temperature at the level of autonomic reactions or at that of thermally motivated behavior or at those of both.

[Phosphatidylcholine transfer between liposomes and mitochondria. Testing system for the study of specific phospholipid exchange].

A system consisting of liposomes and mitochondria for studying the exchange of specific phospholipids is described. The liposomes were prepared from phosphatidylcholine labelled with 14C-palmitic acid. The transfer of liposomes to the mitochondria is specifically stimulated 2- to 3fold by the pH 5.1 supernatant, and proceeds in a linear fashion for 90 min.
