[Immunological parameters in subjects with essential arterial hypertension. I. Lymphocyte subpopulations].

Peripheral venous blood lymphocytes were defined, in 21 subjects with essential hypertension and 20 controls, on the basis of reactivity with monoclonal antibodies OKT3, OKT4, OKT8, OK1Ia. Total lymphocyte count, OKT3+ and OKT4+ cells percentage were similar in normal and hypertensive. OKT8+ cells percentage was significantly lower only in hypertensive stage II and III patients (WHO classification).

[Immunological parameters in subjects with essential arterial hypertension. II. Serological observations].

M, G, and A immunoglobulins as well as C3 and C4 complement fractions were determined in 20 patients with essential hypertension: all the values were in the normal range. Nearly half of the patients had an abnormally high value of circulating immune complexes as determined with Clq binding assay and/or with CIC test. The rise of circulating immune complexes is not related to the stage of arterial hypertension.

The motor and proprioceptive innervation of the retractor bulbi muscle of the lamb.

The motor and proprioceptive innervation of the retractor bulbi muscle of the lamb has been studied. The motor innovation of the muscles supplied only by the abducens never. The proprioceptive nervous fibers coming from the muscle spindles of this extraocular muscle enter the brain stem through the ophthalmic branch of the trigeminal nerve and have their perikarya in the semilunar ganglion.

Autoradiographic studies of the smooth muscle cells in human arteries.

We have studied the kinetics of smooth muscle cell growth in the tunica media of human arteries obtained from 12 patients affected by obstructive vascular disease, and one case operated because of a trauma. The studies were carried out on arterial samples by autoradiography after in vitro labelling with 3H-thymidine. Different patterns of radioactive nucleotide uptake were detected. On nine elastic and muscular arteries without pathological changes it was demonstrated that the turnover of smooth muscle cells in human medias was very low, and similar to that found in experimental animals. The medias under atherosclerotic plaques showed variable levels of tritium uptake. Although the number of cases surveyed was limited, a possible explanation is that the different levels of uptake could depend on the different evolutive stages of the atherosclerotic process. It cannot, however, be excluded that the proliferative activity of the smooth muscle cells may be related to focal damages of the tunica media.

[The sensitive innervation of the proximal sesamoid ligament of the ox].

The Authors have studied the sensitive innervation of the proximal sesamoid ligament of the ox and have found capsulated corpuscles only. Among these receptors, besides Pacini and pacini-like corpuscles, Golgi Mazzoni's corpuscles, muscle spindles and Golgi's tendon organs with a typical structure, the Authors have been described, for the first time in the ox, corpuscles constituted by numerous Pacini collected by a single capsule. It must be pointed out that the muscle spindles are always supplied by an annulo-spiral termination which is centrally placed in the equatorial region. A vegetative innervation is also present in this ligament.

[Motor and proprioceptive innervation of the retractor bulbi muscle in the lamb].

The Authors have studied the motor and proprioceptive innervation of the retractor bulbi muscle of the lamb. The motor innervation of this muscle is supplied by the abducens nerve. The proprioceptive fibers from the muscle spindles of the retractor bulbi muscle travel in the ophthalmic branch of the trigeminal nerve and have their perikaria in the semilunar ganglion.

Effect of alpha, alpha'-dipyridyle on the testicular parenchyma of the rat.

Treatment with an iron-chelating substance (alpha, alpha'-dipyridyle) provokes alterations in the seminiferous tubules and interstitial tissue of rat testicular parenchyma. The action of the drug seems to be dependent neither on the dose nor on the duration of the treatment. The effects of the drug appear in the testicular parenchyma according to a centripetal course either in the whole gonad or in the tubule. Because the alterations of the testicular parenchyma occur at the first treatments the reaction of the tissue cannot be ascribed to an intoxication effect of the drug. The interstitital cells of the testicular parenchyma show greater resistance to the action of dipyridyle than the seminal epithelial cells.

Proprioceptive innervation of the external cremaster muscle of some domestic mammals.

The proprioceptive innervation of the external cremaster muscle of some domestic animals was studied. Muscle spindles and tendon organs with their well-known features were found, but this finding was uncommon and unexpected in the investigated animals. For this reason, we believe that there is no relationship between the presence of these proprioceptors and the cremasteric reflex.
