[Effect of different estro-progesterone sequences on nidation of dormant blastocysts administered in diapause in ovariectomized rats].

The hormonal condition permitting delayed nidation in rats ovarectomized on day 4 or 5 of pregnancy was studied by administering progesterone and estradiol in differents sequences between days 9 and 14. The best result was obtained when progesterone was given 3 days before an estrogen-progesterone association. The same treatment induced delayed nidation in rats receiving Reserpine and ovariectomized day 5, but not when progesterone and estradiol were present day 4.

[Myelosclerosis : pseudo-tumors forms (author's transl)].

Signs of pseudo-tumor growth may be seen in myelosclerosis. Eight personal cases and a review of the literature are discussed in this article. The observations here reported cover pseudo-tumors occurring in ganglia, liver, suprarenals (3), abdomen and pancreas. They are classified as sclerotic haemopoietic tumors. This category has particular characteristics when compared to extra-medullary haemopoiesis, extra-medullary haemopoietic growths, and a fourth category, sarcoma-type malignant tumors in myelosclerosis. The identity of these last three entities is widely discussed in the literature. The main histological and cytological characteristics for pseudo-tumor diagnosis in myelosclerosis are reported here.

Synthesis rates of fibrinogen and albumin in patients with rheumatoid arthritis.

In four patients with rheumatoid arthritis synthesis rates of fibrinogen and albumin were studied with and 14C carbonate method described by Mc Farlane and Reeve. One of the patients was studied twice with and without steroid treatment. The following results were obtained: 1. There was no correlation between plasma fibrinogen levels and fibrinogen synthesis rates. Contrary to the results from turnover studies of labelled fibrinogen reported in the literature normal fibrinogen synthesis rates were found in the presence of elevated plasma fibrinogen levels in three of the five studies performed, corresponding to low fractional synthesis rates. Two patients showed elevated fibrinogen synthesis rates. In these patients the fractional synthesis rate was also well above normal. 2. Albumin synthesis rates were elvated in one patients treated with steroids and in one patient with very active arthritis. In the rest of the studies albumin synthesis was low. There was no correlation with fibrinogen synthesis rates.

Synthesis rates of albumin and fibrinogen in patients with cardiac and pulmonary cachexia.

In five patients with chronic congestive heart failure or pulmonary insufficiency and otherwise unexplained weight loss synthesis rates of albumin and fibrinogen were studied with the 14C carbonate method described by Mc Farlane and Reeve. The following results were obtained. 1. Albumin synthesis rate was normal in 4 out of five patients. In one patient with proteinuria and low serum albumin it was markedly increased. 2. Fibrinogen synthesis rate was normal in three out of five patients. In two patients who had active inflammation just before or during the study it was increased. The results suggest, that in chronic congestive heart failure or pulmonary insufficiency the liver is able to maintain normal or even increased protein synthesis rates.

[Cerebromeningeal hemorrhages and their sequelae in congenital deficiencies of plasma hemostasis factors. Apropos of a case of Stuart factor deficiency with early cerebromengeal hemorrhage leading to hydrocephalus with considerable psychomotor retardation].

We have taken an interest in cerebro meningeal haemorrhages in congenital plasmatic coagulation Factor deficiency with out obvious traumatic origin. We have observed such accidents in a new born child with congenital Stuart factor deficiency and in four cases of haemophilia A. It seems from our experience and from the literature that such haemorragic accidents are not particularly frequent in congenital coagulation deficiency and contribute only for a few to creation of a psychomotor inadapted population.

[Allergic delayed reactions of the skin: the role of the antigen histotopy].

Delayed skin reaction to tuberculin were elicited in 10 healthy persons by patch testing and intracutaneous application of the antigen (Tine-Test). Biopsies revealed basically identical tissue reactions. After intracutaneous injection of the antigen as well as after Tine-testing the changes were solely found in the dermis, while after patch testing dermal and epidermal alterations were prominent. The type of response elicited by the same allergen in man-the so called tuberculin type of the eczematous type-therefore are due to a differential localization of the antigen.

[Acquired C1-esterase inhibitor deficiencies during lymphoid syndromes].

Very marked abnormalities of the complement system were discovered in two patients suffering from a lymphoid syndrome and an IgM 7S dysglobulinaemia. The abnormalities in the complement system were related to a deficiency in C1-estérase (C1 INH). Several findings suggest that such a deficiency is acquired, in particular the absence of any family history of angio-neurotic oedema and, above all, the detection of a marked fall in levels of the C1 fraction which does not exist in the congenital form of deficiency of the inhibitor. The IgM 7S immunoglobulins found in the serum of both patients are probably responsible for the abnormalities in the complement system observed. Such acquired deficiencies in C1 INH are extremely rare since only a few cases have been reported in the literaute, in particular two cases in patients with lymphosarcoma with a serum IgM 7S.

[Ultrastructure of Sertoli cells in male rats treated with "misulban" and stilbestrol].

The seminiferous tubulars of rats testis, subject to the action of Misulban during their foetal life, contain only Sertoli cells and constitute a good model for their study. From the ultrastructural point of view, these cells present several important mitochondria of tubular crest from, an abundant smooth endoplasmic reticulum, a Golgi apparatus well developed, a cytoplasm rich in ribosomes, Lipids droplets and intercellular junctions whose number increases with age. The administration of diethylstilbestrol, which inhibits gonadotropic and androgenic secretions reduces the signs of activity in the Sertoli cells.

Hypotensive and renin-suppressing activities of propranolol in hypertensive patients.

1. In patients with mild or moderate essential hypertension, oral propranolol, given in incremental doses, produced a moderate but significant lowering of blood pressure which was correlated with the concentration of propranolol in plasma. 2. Propranolol also reduced plasma renin activity (PRA) in the supine posture, on standing and after intravenous frusemide. However, 'supine' and 'frusemide' PRA values were markedly reduced at a plasma concentration of propranolol that had little effect on blood pressure. 3. On administration of propranolol there was little correlation between blood pressure decrease and PRA suppression, and even less between pretreatment PRA values and hypotensive response. 4. It is concluded that in patients with mild and moderate hypertension and low or normal plasma renin activity, suppression of PRA is not an important determinant of the hypotensive response to propranolol.
