The instrumentation of a Zanasi LZ/64 capsule filling machine.

The dosator system of a Zanasi LZ/64 capsule filling machine was modified and strain gauges were fitted. These were used to measure the forces on the powder being filled during compaction and ejection. The patterns of those forces produced were shown to differ between different materials and between lubricated and unlubricated materials. Tentative reasons for the observed differences have been suggested.

[Significance of LDH determination in renal perfusions as criterion of vitality in kidney transplantations (author's transl)].

The activity of LDH in perfusate on human kidney and in experiments on dog kidney was investigated during the preservation by the Gambro perfusion apparatus. The enzyme activity of perfusate was characterized by a quotient of volume activity in relation to the perfusion flow rate. With this method we are able to distinguish the values of damaged and normal kidneys. A correlation was established between this quotient and the function resumption day in human kidney transplantation.

[Separation of morphological types of hepatitis B-antigen (author's transl)].

Hepatitis B Antigen from plasma of a healthy chronic carrier was separated by gel chromatography using 6% agarose gel into fractions with different size (Fig. 1). Single fractions were further purified by isopycnic centrifugation in CsCl (Fig. 2) and characterized by electron microscopy (Fig. 3). The amount of the different particle groups was determined comparing the extinction peaks in the centrifugates (Table 1). 88% of antigen protein was located in the 18 to 25 nm spheres (Fig. 3a), 10% in tubules with a length between 30 and 100 nm and about 2% form tubules 100-200 nm long (Fig. 3b and 3c). Together with the tubules were found 40 nm spheres representing about 0,1% of the HBAg-substance (Dane paticles, Fig. 3d). The proportion of the larger antigen particle seems to be absent or very low in acute Hepatitis B patients, but is frequently found in chronic carriers.

[Cellular immunity to donor antigens after kidney transplants in humans].

Decisive for controlling renal transplantation is the knowledge of the immunological reactions. The cellular immuno-mechanisms, released via sensibilization by donor HL-A antigens, are specially important for acute rejection. To predict a crisis of rejection and to initiate increased immuno-suppressive measures it is important to know the degree of cellular immunologic response. The sensibilization was demonstrated in the experiments by means of the MEM test, using graft antigens isolated from spleen or kidney of the donor. In all patients an increasing sensibilization against donor antigen could be proved. The velocity of this sensibilization seems of value for predicting the duration of the graft's survival.
