Two types of variant EcoRI restriction enzyme patterns of albumin-gene DNA fragments have been detected in different rat strains by agarose gel electrophoresis and Southern blot hybridization using 32P-labeled cloned rat albumin cDNA probes. The type I albumin gene variant is characteristic of the Sprague-Dawley strain, and type II is found in Buffalo rats. The occurrence of these variants is interpreted as the result of simple allelic polymorphism because they are inherited in a normal Mendelian fashion when crossing Sprague-Dawley and Buffalo rats. The distribution of the two genetic variants in various inbred strains of rat suggests that type I represents the original or ancestral form of the albumin gene and that type II appeared spontaneously during laboratory breeding.

Variations were observed in prealbumin, transferrin, ceruloplasmin, haptoglobin, PGM-II and AK systems in various subspecies of Cercopithecus aethiops. The electrophoretic distance between three forms seems to indicate an intermediary status between populations and subspecies. The reasons for this moderate differentiation are discussed with regard to divergence of ethological characters, as recently studied.
The three gibbon sub-genera : Symphalangus, Nomascus, and Hylobates are compared for 18 loci coding for serum proteins and enzymes. They are equally distant from each other on the basis of six discriminating electrophoretics markers. These results are compared with those of a similar study based on erythrocyte markers.
The electrophoretic polymorphism of post-albumin and transferin was investigated in 46 apes of the Pan troglodytes, Gorilla gorilla and Pongo pygmaeus subspecies. This type of study enables the different subspecies to be distinguished and the ancestral form to be identified. The pattern of individual variability is found to be different between the various ape species and Homo sapiens.

Pan troglodytes and P. paniscus differ electrophoretically only at 1 locus out of the 34 examined. This is the transferrine locus which varies in different geographical chimpanzee sub-species. P. troglodytes and P. paniscus are concluded to have diverged relatively recently.
The electrophoretic mobilities of serum enzymes and other proteins were investigated at 35 loci in 25 unrelated individuals of the chimpanzee Pan troglodytes. In this population the mean average of individual polymorphism is P = 0.181, and the average level of heterozygoty H = 0.022. The same pattern of individual variability is found in Pan troglodytes and Homo sapiens.
The Mandrill (Mandrillus sphinx) and the Drill (M. leucophaeus) differ by approximately 30% of their genes as shown by electrophoretic studies. The reasons of this differenciation are discussed with regard to divergence of characters, geographical isolation, and social organization of both species.
The separation of the group of Mangabeys into two genera, Cerecocebus and Lophocebus, is justified by electrophoretic criteria. The same criteria permit assignment of the species aterrimus to an intermediary position within the second genus as well as the demonstration of the absence of differences between two species of Cercocebus.
1. Electrophoretical comparisons was carried out on qualitative and quantitative differences of three proteins in the cock-quail hybrid: albumin, immunoglobulin and hemoglobin. All three components correspond to situations of codominance. 2. Heterosis was demonstrated twice: the immunological potentialities of the hybrid are increased by its possession of two types of Ig G; the affinity of hemoglobin for oxygen can be better regulated in the hybrid than in both parental species. 3. Proportions of the codominant parental components in the hybrid are different in the case of the three investigated proteins; this fact probably reflects the relative importance of the quantitative regulation of gene products in the hybrid.

Egg white proteins, hemoglobin, serum proteins and enzymes from Alectoris rufa have been examined by starch gel electrophoresis. All three genetic parameters, mean proportion of loci polymorphic per population (P), mean numbers of alleles per locus (A), and mean proportion of loci heterozygous per individual (H) are given for Alectoris rufa, and comparison were made between the proteins of the related species Coturnix coturnix japonica.
An observation of interest is that brother-sister inbreeding appears to have increased the size of protoporphyrin spots of wild type egg-shells in japanese quail. Phenodeviant theory can explain the modalities of trait segregation.
Polychromatism and pigments of five Phasianides egg-shells others than japanese quail are studied. Polychromatism modalities and pigments repartitions are species specific.
In an experimental population of the japanese quail Coturnix coturnix japonica, two polymorphic ovoglobulin loci, two polymorphic esterase loci, and PGD versus G-6-PD loci are in epistatic disequilibrium. Epistatic interactions occur between structurally and physiologically very closely related proteins and enzymes.
In the mice hemimely, data suggest some systemic competitive phenomena, described in terms of surplus "digit material" with some contraints on its distribution between limbs.
