Double-blind crossover trial comparing systemic chromosome-carboxylic acid with placebo in patients with atopic dermatitis.

35 adult patients with atopic dermatitis were included in a double-blind crossover trial comparing chromone-2-carboxylic acid, FPL 57787 18 mg x 4, with placebo. Each treatment period lasted for 6 weeks with clinical assessment every 3 weeks. 28 patients completed 3 weeks of each period. Significant differences at the 5% level in favour of FPL 57787 were seen in the group starting on placebo. 17 patients completed the study. After 6 weeks there were no significant differences. 10 patients experienced dyspeptic side-effects. Further studies are warranted on clearly allergic sub-groups of atopic dermatitis patients.

Successful treatment of actinic reticuloid induced by whole-body topical application of mechlorethamine.

A man suffering from actinic reticuloid for 2 years showed highly abnormal light sensitivity over a broad action spectrum. He has been successfully treated with daily whole-body topical applications of mechlorethamine, initially for 4 weeks and after a 2-month interruption, for 3 weeks. Gauzes moistened with the same solution were placed over lichenified areas for 10-15 min. His skin became normal pale and the lichenification decreased. After treatment his tolerance for daylight increased.

Dermatitis herpetiformis and vitiligo.

A 36-year-old woman developed vitiligo in areas with active dermatitis herpetiformis. Both diseases have been associated with autoimmune disorders. However, in the present case the vitiligo is believed to be an isomorphic reaction to the dermatitis herpetiformis lesions.
