[Programmed diagnosis].

Diagnostics is still a problem not completely solved. The progress is not only in the possibilities of making use of better improved laboratory and technique for the examination of the patient but in mastering of improved methodology, of new operational ability of the physician of programmed work and better organization--in his activities and mentally.

[Manifestations, treatment and prognosis in acute leukemia].

One hundred fifty one patients were studied--with acute lymphoblast leukosis (ALL) and acute non-lymphoblast (myelogenic) leukosis (ANLL). The disease had a fulminant course in 118 of the patients studied (21.8%). In 73 patients, out of 118 studied, no treatment effect was obtained (61.9%) and the rest 45 patients developed a complete remission (38.1%). In 10 of the patients with no treatment effect, a partial remission was obtained (8.4%). The remission is more frequent in case of ALL. The younger age, at present, remains the most essential prognostic factor. Partial initial leukose infiltration of the bone marrow was found in some of the patients. The bone marrow aplasia is not an obligatory phase of remission. The latter could develop by a gradual restoration of the normal hematopoiesis. The existence of stages with inducing of leukosis processes is possible that follow the reverse way in remission development. Hemorrhages are the most frequent complications in forms with fulminant course, and the infections--in the rest of the patients.

[Effect o the lighting regimen on breeding chickens of the Plymouth Rock strain].

Studied was the effect of various illumination regimes on breeding birds of the Plymouth line 33. Examined were some hematologic and biochemical indices (vitamin content, erythrocyte count, hemoglobin amount, total protein, calcium and inorganic phosphorus in the blood serum, and alkali reserves of the blood). The liveweight, morbidity rate, development of internal genitalia, egg laying, hatchable eggs and their incubation quality, and the intake of feed per unit of produce were also followed up. Established were the contents of vitamin A, total protein, and alkali reserves of the blood under the effect of light intensity. Besides, some changes in the level of hemoglobin, erythrocytes, calcium, and inorganic phosphorus in the blood serum were noted. Data are given with regard to the changes in the development of the internal genital organs, egg laying capacity, incubation properties, and forage intake per unit of produce as they set in under the influence of illumination intensity.

[Clinical diagnostic problems in myxoma of the left atrium].

The difficulties in the diagnosis of left auricle myxoma are discussed, proceeding from seven patients, observed by the authors. In two of them the diagnosis was confirmed by EchoCG and intracardial investigation (left atriography), in three--it was realized by exploratory thoracotomy, and in one of them proceeded directly into operation with extracorporal circulation (ECC), the second was radically operated (with ECC) after one month and the third died during operation due to acute obturation of mitral ostium by an extremely big myxoma; the other two patients were also successfully operated, the diagnosis being preoperatively made. Two patients died of cardiac failure, their diagnosis made at necropsy. The atypical and fast development of a mitral defect, progressing cardiac decompensation unsusceptible to treatment, are stressed to have a diagnostic significance in myxoma of left auricle as well as the effect of body position upon the morbid symptoms, discrepancy between the size of the left auricle and the type and stage of the manifested valvular disease, corresponding to the ECG manifestation of the same in the juxtaposition with the manifestation of the ventricular hypertrophy, etc. EchoCG examination and the left (contrast) atriography are of a high diagnostic value.

[Etiopathogenesis and prevention of encephalomalacia in chickens].

Studies were carried out on the dissemination of encephalomalation with chickens. The quality of the feeding-mixes, meant for the different categories of fowls, was also studied with regard to the contents of vitamins, fats, aldehyde and peroxide number and antioxidizers. The contents of vitamin E was also determined, as well as its biological activity in a biological material. The prophylactic effect of different vitamin preparations was tested in combination with other means of prophylaxis of broilers against encephalomalation. It was proved that the increase of aldehydes and peroxides in feeding-mixes could lead to the appearance of encephalomalation with chickens. The quantity of santokvin--200 g/t of fodder enabled the good conservation and preservation of the biological activity of vitamin E. The index 'biological activity' is a more appropriate criterium for a supply of chickens with vitamin E, rather than its quantitative contents in biological substrates. On the basis of the experiments made, a disgram is offered about the prophylaxis of encephalomalation with chickens.
