[General practitioners' experience in a mass screening campaign of colorectal cancers].

In a mass screening campaign of colorectal cancer, general practitioners play an essential role for obtaining a high rate of participation from people. It is important to analyze the reasons for the participation and their actual experiences in the campaign. Out of 71 GPs participating in the campaign, 67 have been interviewed by a sociologist and 51 GPs (76%) considered themselves "motivated" for participating after an instruction course in small groups. Sixteen GPs were sceptical about the outcome or not highly motivated. However thirteen of them participated by moral obligation vis à vis their patients or for not being different from their colleagues. All GPs appreciated being actively involved in the organization of the screening campaign and considered that the public had been well informed. Such information covered the information leaflet, the press campaign at the beginning of the campaign and the recall letter for those who had not been consulted during the time when the test was distributed by GPs. The main constraint was the time spent to convince the patients to do the screening test and explain its importance. The additional time, 5 to 10 minutes per consultation was important to the GPs. They thought it was fair to be paid for their active participation. These data suggest that it is possible to motivate GPs for a mass screening campaign, on the condition that they are actively involved and participate in an instruction course for small groups.

[Axillary-subclavian venous thrombosis. Therapeutic management].

24 cases of axillary-subclavian venous thrombosis were studied according to the etiology: "intrinsic" thrombosis secondary to alteration of the endothelium (7 cases), "extrinsic" thrombosis secondary to compression at the level of the thoracic outlet (4 cases), "combined" thrombosis following a complex treatment of breast cancer (3 cases). The frequency of these thromboses, undoubtedly underestimated, seems low as compared to that of venous thromboses of the lower extremities. The frequency of pulmonary emboli is 8%. The treatment is limited to anticoagulants in case of intrinsic or combined thrombosis. In the third type, decompressive surgery is necessary, especially if there are abnormalities of the cervico-dorsal junction or associated neurological or arterial disorders.

[Iatrogenic injuries of the venous femoroiliac axis].

The occurrence of iatrogenous vascular accidents is underestimated. The authors describe 14 venous lesions to the femoro-iliac axis out of 60 iatrogenous vascular traumatisms. They consider the different aetiologies, underlining the disadvantages of femoral catheterisms and the main surgicalfactors contributing to venous traumatism. They emphasize the need for preventive measures in each discipline, and also the need for rapid diagnosis, thorough treatment, and careful post-operative after-care, bearing in mind secondary thrombo-embolic complications.

[Extrapulmonary tuberculosis in Africans (author's transl)].

Extra pulmonary tuberculosis are frequent in Africa and have a special severity due to delayed diagnosis and multifocal forms. Various punctures and biopsies may be necessary to demonstate the tuberculous infection. Even with modern treatment it too often implies important risks of severe sequelae.
