[Evaluation of soy bean proteins obtained by pressure].

Besides the processes of extrusion and protein fiber spinning, analogous utilization research with a range of protein sources is continuing at an accelerated pace. However, the pressure forming process, an attractive process for producing protein foods, has not received the attention as it merits. The fabrication techniques contribute the advantages of nutritional value, economic and simplicity in manufacture; it can be extend to utilize in the development of useful textured vegetable protein foods. Here, we present a pressure forming process for producing protein foods with soybean grains. In this paper, we evaluated the composition, and the yield of the products obtained by this process; the trypsin inhibitor and enzymatic proteolyse of the products were also studied. The product obtained contents soluble and insoluble proteins of soybean, 45 p. 100 of protein (N x 6,25), 20-25 p. 100 of carbohydrates of which the fibers are included; moreover it contents 6-7 p. 100 of ash and 20-22 p. 100 of fat. It does not content any starch, the oligosaccharides and antinutritional factors were almost eliminated. This product presents in acceptable textural form resembling traditional animal protein foodstuffs; its fonctional and nutritional properties can meet different utilizations in foodstuffs such as dietetic products and protein complements.

[Relase of organochloride pesticides during acute weight losses (author's transl)].

The increase of blood organochloride pesticide levels and the urinary excretion have been determined in 4 human subjects undergoing a caloric restriction sequence (500 total K. calories per day) followed by a total starvation period of 36 hours. The severe lipolysis due to the caloric restriction causes an important liberation of fat-soluble pesticides especially DDT and DDE (30 ppb of total DDT equivalents) and an increase of urinary excretion (15 ppb of total DDT equivalents).

[Osteo-articular lesions of the foot in diabetic patients. A systematic review of 1,501 radiological reports (author's transl)].

Osteo-articular changes observed in diabetic patients include diabetic osteo-arthropathy, infective osteo-arthritis, and osteo-arthrosis. A systematic review of 1,501 case-sheets demonstrated one or more bone lesions in 55% of the diabetic patients studied. There was a striking absence of the most typical lesions of the foot, probably party due to the fact that there has been an improvement in the treatment of diabetes. Osteolytic and reconstructive lesions were more common in women.

[Comparison in genetically obese and normal rats of the uptake and incorporation of labelled lauric acid, oleic acid, and glycerol by the isolated perfused liver].

Lauric acid, labelled oleic acid and glycerol are perfused in isolated liver of fafa Rats and Wistar Rats previously subjected to fasting. They synthesize TG and PL de novo, though in long time experiments with the normal Rat, the most important method of synthesis is an exchange of AG of the endogenous glycerolipids. However PL are not synthesized with lauric acid. In the livers of fafa Rats the synthesis of TG with oleic acid and glycerol is higher than in livers of Wistar Rats: 16:0 18 : 1 18: 1, 16:0 18: 1 18: 2, 18 : 1 18 :1 18:1, 16 : 0 16 :0 18 : 1 (this TG is not present in liver of Wistar Rat). The hepatic synthesis of PL by the fafa Rat, is less important after 15 min while it is important with Wistar Rats. The synthesized TG with lauric acid (only the TG 12 : 0 12 : 0 12 : 0 with the fafa Rat) are more rapidly oxidized by liver of obese Rat than by liver of normal Rat.

[Comparison in genetically obese and normal rats in the secretion of lipids synthesized from labeled lauric and oleic acids and glycerol in isolated perfused liver].

(1) Isolated livers of previously fasted fafa and Wistar Rats are perfused with labelled oleic acid and glycerol. Two pools of synthesized lipids are studied: --a pool of liver lipids: labelled TG 16:0, 16:0, 18:1, 16:0, 18:1, 18:1 and 18:1, 18:1, 18:1 are synthesized more by the fafa than by the Wistar Rat liver, The TG 16:0, 18:1, 18:2 appears in the liver of the 2 rat strains. After a 30 min. perfusion, the PL are synthesized less by the fafa than by Wistar Rat liver; --a pool of lipids released in the circulation. The labelled tG 16:0, 18:1, 18:2, are increased in the perfusate of fafa rat. The labelled TG 18:1, 18:1, 18:2 and 18:1, 18:2, 18:2 are in the same amount. (2) The liver synthesis of TG 12:0, 12:0, 12:0 is demonstrated in the fafa Rat by a lauric acid perfusion. This TG is not present in circulation, when a Wistar Rat liver synthesizes and releases with this TG, TG containing 1 or 2 molecules of lauric acid.

[Uptake and incorporation of labeled oleic acid and glycerol by the isolated and perfused liver of the Wistar rat].

After perfusion by oleic acid (9-10(-3)H) and glycerol (1(-14)C) previously starved Wistar rats, the synthesis of hepatic TG and PL follows the two following different method: -- during the first minutes of perfusions, the most important method synthesis of TG and especially of PL is a de novo synthesis utilizing glycerol and the exogenous AG. The TG synthesized are 18:1 18:1 18:1 and 16:0 18:1 18:2 the PL synthesized are LP, AP and LPC; -- during perfusions of long duration (30, 60, 120 min.), the major method of synthesis of TG and PL is an active exchange of AG of the endogenous glycerolipids. The TG synthesized are 16:0 18:1 18:1 and 16:0 18:1 18:2 the PL synthesized are PE and PC.

[Indications and results of interstitial hypophyseal stereo-gammatherapy in the treatment of diabetic retinopathy].

New interest for pituitary neurosurgery in diabetic retinopathy is based on several data: long-term efficacy of various medical therapeutic agents is still unproved, ocular treatment by photocoagulation remains symptomatic, growth-hormone (HGH) has a permissive or supportive role in the development of diabetic retinopathy. Stereo-GIHF performs the pituitary interstitial irradiation by stereotaxic implantation of a gamma point emitter (198Au) and results in the selective blockade of HGH secretion peaks. Different from all other procedures achieving a more or less complete hypophysectomy, Stereo-GIHF introduces a new trend for the functional neurosurgical treatment of diabetic retinopathy.

Interstitial gamma irradiation by 198Au of the pituitary in diabetic retinopathy. Selective growth hormone blockade and ocular results.

Pituitary interstitial irradiation by stereotaxic implantation of a gamma pointemitter was performed in 110 patients with progressing diabetic retinopathy. Reduction of growth hormone secretion peaks was delayed, but was consistent and selective in all cases controlled by somatotropin stimulation test, while other pituitary secretions remianed unchanged in all but five cases. In 31 patients who had no associated photocoagulation, long-term postoperative assessment showed significant improvement of hemorrhages and intrarentinal new vessels with preservation of visual acuity. Preretinal vascular proliferation (except when treatable by photocoagulation), extensive retinitis proliferans, and macular deterioration are contraindications. This technique represents a new approach in the functional pituitary neurosurgical treatment of diabetic retinopathy and differs from all other procedures that result in a more or less complete hypophysectomy.

[Influence of prolonged protein-free diet on the amino acid content of blood and muscles in rats].

The influence of a protein-free diet in adult male rats has been evaluated for a 6-week period. Nitrogen retention, hepatic protein and free amino acid content in blood and muscle were determined as adaptation criteria. Long-lasting protein depletion did not modify the pattern of response affering in a shorter period: i.e. sparing of nitrogen and use of endogenous amino acids for protein synthesis. Except for lysine, arginine and histidine, the essential amino acids decreased in blood and the non-essential acids increased. The final effect was a decrease of the essential to non-essential amino acid ratio and a decrease in all amino acids in muscle.
