Cutaneous lesions resembling Kaposi's sarcoma may develop on legs and feet of patients with acral arteriovenous malformation. A case of this rare syndrome is reported and the main features of the 17 published cases are summarized in a table.

Scanning electron microscopy revealed Demodex folliculorum on the face surface of twenty healthy subjects. The ultrastructural morphology of Demodex and the follicle parasitization process are briefly illustrated.
The authors describe two brothers showing leukonychia totalis in association with deafness, hyperkeratosis palmaris and plantaris, scalp modifications and dental lesions. The onychopathia began during early childhood and was also present in four other members of the same family. All nails of both hands and feet were affected and appeared white, dull and with inconspicuous lunulae. The hair was rough, dark, bristly, looking like steel wire. In particular, the changes of the hair shaft were studied under scanning electron microscope. Hair dysplasia, accompanied by structural changes such as complete and incomplete twistings, longitudinal grooves and modified imbrication, was found. After briefly reviewing the literature on the subject, the authors point out the suggestive hypothesis that all these manifestations might possibly we ascribed to a single genetic defect, in spite of their different clinical features in the various patients.

A DNA polymerase has been extracted from spinach chloroplasts and purified by chromatography on DEAE-cellulose and hydroxyapatite. A great similarity between the purified chloroplast polymerase and the mammalian mitochondrial DNA polymerase gamma was found by several criteria: preference for the synthetic primer-template (dT)12-18 . poly(rA), optimal requirement for Mn2+ (0.1-1.0 mM), KCl (100 mM) and pH (8-9), high relative molecular mass (approximately 105,000), resistance to aphidicolin and inhibition by N-ethylmaleimide. Some peculiar features of the chloroplast DNA polymerase have, however, been noticed. The mammalian DNA polymerase gamma has been suggested to be responsible for the replication of mitochondrial DNA. Thus, both the presence of a gamma-like DNA polymerase in chloroplasts and the similarities between the chloroplast and the mitochondrial DNA (absence of a nucleosomal structure an presence of displacement loops) lead to the suggestion that chloroplast DNA is also replicated by a gamma-like DNA polymerase and that the gamma polymerases present in eukaryotes are, therefore, involved in a strand-displacement DNA synthesis. An alpha-like DNA polymerase activity, present and predominant in crude leaf extracts, was practically absent from purified chloroplast preparations.
Only seven hundred cases of chordoma approximatively are reported in medical literature from 1850 to date. We now describe two cases recently observed at our Medical Division, one of sacro-coccigeal chordoma and the other developed from clivus of Blumenbach. Their peculiarities are briefly discussed and compared with a rapid revision of the literature on this argument. The results of antiblastic therapy are presented and its opportunity in addition to Roentgenologic and surgical therapy is discussed.

The cellular immunity has been studied in 121 patients by solid nonlymphoid tumors, and in 50 healthy patients, 11 with benign tumors, with the use of techniques of in vivo dinitrochlorobenzene (DNCB) and in vitro lymphocyte response to phytohemagglutinin to observe the correlation between both tests and the clinical stage of the disease, the response to chemotherapy and surgery, prognosis, and survival. Patients with anergy presented tumoral irresectability, lack of response to chemotherapy, advanced disease, and limited survival. In the patients with good immune response, the disease was limited, responding with greater frequency to therapy and presenting a higher rate of survival. Consequently, the immunologic study of a neoplastic patient can guide us toward a therapeutic behavior and a prognosis.
