[Articular manifestations of Yersinia infections. Apropos of 4 personal cases. Review of the literature].

The reactive arthritis due to Yersinia enterocolitica (YEC) have been know for a little more than ten years. A great many cases have been reported, especially by Scandinavian authors. In contrast, few cases have been reported in the course of Yersinia pseudotuberculosis infections (YPT). Analysis of 36 cases in the literature shows that although they are rare, the YPT reactive arthritis do exist and are not fundamentally different from those due to YEC. A few minor differences in their clinical signs have been demonstrated: the higher incidence of erythema nodosa and the lower incidence of cardiac involvement in the cases due to YPT. In both forms, there is a characteristic genetic predisposition, marked by the high incidence of the antigen HLB B27 (50 to 80 p. cent), which explains their strict relationship with diseases of the rheumatic pelvispondylitis group.

[The hemostatic assistance after sub-total or total hepatectomy in the dog (author's transl)].

After subtotal (90%) or total hepatectomy in the dog, coagulation disturbances appear early and exclude survival beyond 40 hours. These disturbances are the result of a fall in the synthesis of coagulation factors, but may also reflect a consumption syndrome. The ensuing clinical finding is an intravascular coagulation which can give way to fibrinolysis. A substitutive therapy aiming to replace the missing factors and avoid or prevent an eventual consumption thus appears necessary. The hemostatic disturbances after subtotal or total hepatectomy in the dog can be totally corrected by a substitutive therapy based on fresh frozen plasma. The first hepatic segment (caudate lobe) cannot insure by itself the coagulation functions during the first 4 post-op days. The hemostatic assistance is an other step towards the treatment of hepatic insufficiency. It must become an integral part of existing artificial liver support.

[Development of bacterial populations of telluric, enteric, and marine origin in planktonic systems exposed to urban pollution; mathematical data analysis].

A study of the comparative distribution of different types of bacterial populations in the sea area where the city of Marseille rejects its waste water shows that, when in contact with the marine environment, a great part of the allochthonic bacterial population undergoes physiological stress expressed by an abrupt reduction of the effectives and by weak values of the energetic charge. The presence of coliforms and streptococci in waste water lens, at important distances from discharging conduits, shows the possibility of a large diffusion for a fraction of the bacterial populations that withstand the initial stress. From mathematical analyses, an inverse correlation is revealed between detergents and the bacterial population as a whole, and between phenols and various allochthonic bacterial populations. The above results were evidenced through a sampling strategy based upon a 24-h-cycle study and a search for mathematical correlations between several biological, chemical, and physical parameters.

[Angio-immunoblastic lymphadenopathy].

A report is presented on four cases of angioimmunoblastic lymphadenopathy. In this recently individualized entity, adenomegaly with fever and cutaneous eruption is associated with polyclonal hypergammaglobulinemia and autoimmunization, especially of anti-erythrocytic type. The lymph nodes are homogenized by a lymphoplasmo-immunoblastic granuloma with angiogenesis. The disease could be attributed to hyperplasia of B lymphocytes with a deficit of T cells, which would explain the autoimmunization. It appears in some cases to be triggered by accidents of drug intolerance. Prognosis is poor and the course of the disease is nearly always fatal in the long or short term. It is difficult to ascertain whether prolonged remissions, either spontaneous or therapeutic, can be considered actual cures.

[Comparative immunochemical study of the serum proteins of Lacertilia (Reptilia)].

The immunochemical relationships of the serum proteins of Uromastix acanthinurus, Agama mutabilis, Oplurus cuvieri, O. quadrimaculatus, Chamaeleo chamaeleon, Chalcides ocellatus and Lacerta lepida were studied by means of immunoelectrophoresis with an antiserum anti-Uromastix successively absorbed. Homogeneity of the Iguania species was pointed out and they were found more closely related to the Scincid Chalcides ocellatus than to the Lacertid Lacerta lepida. Within the Iguania, the two Agamids are immunologically more closely related to the Chamaeleon than to the two Iguanids.

[Cirrhogenic hepatitis due to perhexiline maleate: general review based upon one new case with ultrastructural study (author's transl)].

The authors describe a case of cirrhogenic hepatitis due to Pexid which was given for 8 months at 400 mg/day for a severe angina pectoris. We find here the anatomo-clinical profile of perhexiline maleate hepatiits already described in approximately 20 cases. There was a cirrhogenic evolution in our case as in 5 others : but here cirrhosis was revealing and seems stabilized since the treatment was stopped. The cirrhogenic evolution could be due to a cumulative effect of the drug and/or to an immuno-allergic mechanism as in alcoholic cirrhosis which is very similar, especially from an anatomical point of view. However cirrhogenic hepatitis differs by a characteristic lysosomal overload : brown pigment under microscopic observation and lipolysosomes with in some cases a lamellar structure under electron microscopic observation. The prescription of such a drug should be limited to cases of refractory angina pectoris and needed a regular clinical and biological survey.

[Metabolic disorders in experimental hepatic insufficiency and parenteral feeding].

Anhepatia is a complete experimental model for the study of metabolic disturbances associated with hepatic insufficiency. The authors report their experience based upon 16 cases of total hepatectomy in the dog. The animals received different types of hepatic assistance : group 1 (2 dogs), carbohydrate assistance (glucose 7 g/kg/24 h) ; group II (2 dogs), carbohydrate and haemostatic assistance : homologous plasma 50 ml/kg body weight per 24 hours previously stored at - 80 degrees C ; group III (2 dogs) same nutrition as in group II, combined with amino acids : leucine 53, 3 mg, isoleucine 46, 6 mg ; valine 53,3 mg alpha-ketonic acid (lg/kg/24 h) ; group IV (10 dogs, same nutrition as in group III, combined with supplements in neuro transmitter precursors : 6 dopa 1,66 mg, 5 hydroxy-tryptophane 2 mg and choline 16, 66 mg/kg/24h. Metabolic disturbances and their course were analysed in detail. Results : (mean survival) - group I : 24 +/- 4 hours; group II : 36 +/- 9 hours; group III : 42 +/- 4 hours; group IV : 90 +/- 9 hours. The average survival differed significantly for groups III and IV (p less than 0,01) in comparison with control groups I and II. The replacement of essential hepatic functions such as blood glucose regulation, coagulation, detoxication and the provision of neurotransmitter precursors made possible 4 days survival after total hepatectomy.

5-Hydroxytryptophan↗

[Primary liver carcinogenesis induced by the pesticide 2-(4-tert-butylphenoxy0-1-methylethyl 2-chloroethyl sulphite (Aramite)].

Wistar rats were fed, during 56 weeks, a diet containing 5 g/kg of Aramite. At the end of the treatment, all the surviving animals show, on anatomo-pathological examination, malignant proliferation of the hepatic tissue and, in certain cases, of biliary ducts. This compound, proposed in the past as acaricide in agriculture, can thus be considered as a model substance for induction of malignant liver tumors.
