Behavior of secretion in the hypoxia-immobilisation stress on the rat.

Secretin was determined radioimmunologically in portal vein blood and in duodenal mucosa biopsies in stressed male Wistar rats as compared to control animals. The stressed animals showd a significantly higher scretin content of the duodenalmucosa and no different levels of the portal vein blood. A stress ulcer-reducing cimetidine application does not demonstrate any influence of secretin content on duodenal mucosa. The obvious elevation of duodenal secrtin is not the result of an increased gastric acid production, but may be a consequence of a stress-reduced susceptibility of the pancreas to endogenous secretin.

[Changes in the oxidative glucose brain metabolism under long-term xantinol-nicotinate medication (author's transl)].

8 patients suffering from dementia were treated with xantinol-nicotinate for 4 weeks. At the beginning and at the end of the treatment cerebral blood flow and cerebral metabolic rates of oxygen, glucose and lactate were measured with the N2O-method. With regard to the initial level of each parameter CBF, CMR glucose and CMR oxygen increased significantly, if it had been decreased at the first measurement, while primarily normal or even increased parameters did not change. Seming contradictions to other authors are discussed.

[Experimental investigation of psychophysiological effect of a new antidepressant (lofepramine) as compared to imipramine and placebo (author's transl)].

Using 24 non-selected healthy male students the effects of imipramine (single dose of 100 mg orally) and 4'-chloro-2-[3-(10,11-dihydro-5H-dibenz[b,f]azepin-5-yl)-propyl]-methylamino]-acetophenone-hydrochloride (lofepramine, Gamonil) (single dose of 140 mg orally) in comparison to placebo (doubleblind) on subjective, physiological and performance variables were examined. All subjects (Ss) received the three drugs in a completely counterbalanced sequence. On the basis of their scores on the Depression Scale of the Freiburger Personality Inventory (FPI, Fahrenberg) Ss were divided into two groups of 12 Ss each, "high depression" and "low depression" group. Two-way analyses of variance were computed. Imipramine and Lofepramine elevate scores in the mood scale, but only for the "high depression" group. For the Ss scoring lower in depression no such effect can be demonstrated. The physiological effects are similar. Reported side effects are less for lofepramine than for imipramine.

[Internal and external stress and tybamate and secobarbital: an experimental investigation of their interactions (author's transl)].

This investigation was carried out to test the hypotheses that the reactions associated with external stress are better reduced by barbiturates while meprobamat-type tranquilizers reduce principally internal stress. To test the interaction of medication and type of stress a 3X3 plan was used with independent groups. The medication conditions were: placebo, 500 mg tybamate, and 100 mg secobarbital, and the stress conditions were: white noise of 95 dB intensity (external stress), fictitious assessments of the subject with high negative content (internal stress) and a non-stress situation. The paper deals with the main effects on physiological and subjective variables as the result of a covariance analysis. No interactions were found.
