Isolation and toxicological study of tetrahydrocannabivarol, an homolog of tetrahydrocannabinol (delta 1--THC).

Selection and culture in a Phytotron of plants of Cannabis sativa L. with high content of propyl-THC are obtained. Then it was possible to isolate a large quantity of propyl-THC by column chromatography. Spectroscopic analysis is done. Pharmacological tests are being run; first results revealed the allergenicity of this substance by comparison with the properties of tetrahydrocannabinol, the active principle of Cannabis.

Effect of lindane on mouse peritoneal macrophages.

Among the effects of lindane in vitro on mouse peritoneal macrophages, the inhibition of uridine incorporation correlated with the reduction of intracellular uridine pool was the most pronounced. This decrease was significant at a concentration of 10(-4) M after 12 h of treatment. The rate of leucine incorporation did not show any change during the 24-h study. The decrease in pinocytosis rate and acid phosphatase activity occurred with lindane concentrations superior to 10(-4) M or after treatment of more than 12 h. Pinocytosis inhibition may have been associated with cytoplasm vacuolation. The high lindane doses necessary to inhibit some of these macrophage functions belong to the range of concentrations exerting biological effects unrelated to its insecticidal effects, which involves stereochemical specificity. The effects of lindane on mouse peritoneal macrophages, similar to the effects of anesthetics, seemed to be determined by its lipophilicity, which may exert disordering effects in the lipid domains of the membrane. Such perturbations could involve changes in the conformation of transport sites as well as in the integrity of the membrane and cytoskeleton structures which govern the processes of pinocytosis and lysosomal fusion.

[Urinary evaluation of 5-S-cysteinyldopa and seric evaluation of IgG4 subclass during follow-up of 27 primitive malignant melanomas (author's transl)].

27 patients with SSM or NM level IV and V have been submitted to a monthly evaluation of their level of 5-S-cysteinyldopa in the urine and IgG4 subclass in their sera. For 5 patients who entered the stage II of their disease during the follow-up, 3 had elevation of the 5S and 5 had large variations of IgG4. On 21 patients in clinical remission, 10 had conjunctly an increase of 5S and variations of IgG4. The predictional value of these tests is discussed.

Studies on new process procedures in plasma fractionation on an industrial scale. I. Determination of the pH value of ethanol containing protein solutions at low temperatures.

A suitable combined pH electode is evaluated which provides reproducible readings under the extreme conditions of the cold ethanol plasma fractionation procedure. Adequately reproducible correlations are found between the pH measurements in protein solutions with an ethanol content of up to 40% at temperatures as low as -8 degrees C and the determination in diluted samples at room temperature using the standard procedure.
