[Urotractin in the treatment of an infection of the kidneys, urinary tract and prostate].

Clinical and bacteriological effects of urotractin are analysed for 60 patients with infectious-inflammatory diseases of the kidney, urinary tracts and prostate treated in 3 urological clinics of Moscow. The drug was given 10 days in a dose 400 mg twice a day. Urotractin demonstrated high efficacy against both gram-negative and gram-positive bacteria. The results were the same in in- and outpatients.

[Electromyography of the penis in the diagnosis of erectile dysfunction after radical operations on the organs of the lesser pelvis].

The paper presents the technique and results of electromyography of the penis (EMP) for 68 males divided into 3 groups: 21 volunteers with erectile disorders, 20 patients with nonvasculogenic erectile dysfunction and no history of pelvic operations, 27 patients with erectile abnormalities as a result of pelvic operations (after cystectomy -11, cystoprostatectomy -1, rectal resection -7, rectal extirpation -8 patients, groups 1, 2, 3 and 4, respectively). Autonomic innervation of the penis is primarily characterized by such EMP parameters as amplitude, synchronism and frequency of potentials. Neurogenic penile disorder was identified in 3 patients of group 2 (1 patient with intervertebral disk hernia, 2 patients with lumbosacral osteochondrosis), in all patients of group 3 (electric silence was recorded in 22 patients). EMP should be included in the algorithm of examination of patients with erectile dysfunction as providing a reliable assessment of autonomic penile innervation.

[Diagnosis of the "valve effect" of the middle lobe of prostate in benign prostatic hyperplasia and choice of the treatment method].

As there are still no accurate criteria of assessing middle-lobe prostatic benign hyperplasia contribution through the "valve effect" to development of infravesical obstruction, the authors propose to introduce "miction" transrectal ultrasonic study. This study provides evidence allowing to divide patients with middle-lobe prostatic benign hyperplasia into three groups by the degree of the "valve effect". This enables differential approach to choice of the scope of the operative intervention.

[Changes in the levels of prostate-specific antigen and its molecular forms with alpha 1-antichymotrypsin in patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia].

Analysis of the changes in the levels of total prostatic specific antigen (t-PSA) in patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) shows that the patient's age, size of the prostatic gland and chronic bacterial prostatitis influence the levels of t-PSA but have no effect on the levels of PSA-ACT. The relationship between the levels of t-PSA and age in BPH patients is explained by growing mass of benign hyperplasia causing mechanical load on the intact prostatic tissue. The maximal concentration of t-PSA of 8.7 +/- 1.22 ng/ml was observed in BPH patients at the age of 61-70 years. BPH stages, chronic pyelonephritis, chronic non-bacterial prostatitis, chronic renal failure are not essential for t-PSA and PSA-ACT and can be neglected in interpretation of t-PSA values in BPH patients.
