Cutaneous histiocytosis was discovered in a 40-year-old man with a slow-growing nodule located on his right arm. Histologic findings showed an epidermotropic infiltrate of histiocytes with folded, irregular nuclei. Immunologically, the cells presented an intermediate phenotype between Langerhans' cells and dermal macrophages. After surgical removal of the lesion, neither a relapse nor visceral involvement was observed during two years of follow-up.

The clinical and histopathological features of four cases of angiosarcoma in congenital, post-traumatic, and post-hysterectomy lymphedematous limbs are reported. A good correlation between histologic and ultrastructural findings and clinical course was observed.
Acquired tufted angioma is a benign, slowly progressive angioma with a typical histologic pattern that was first described by Wilson Jones. The clinical, histopathologic and transmission electron microscopic features of a case of this rare condition are presented. Angioblastoma of Nagakawa is clinically and histopathologically the same as acquired tufted angioma.
A 27-year-old man presented with a reddish hard-elastic plaque on his back near the right armpit, which had slowly developed during 1 year. A granulomatous infiltration with many giant cells which were phagocytizing lymphocytes and elastic fibers was seen at histological examination. The lesion was removed and no new lesions developed after surgery. This case may represent a localized form of Convit's 'Progressive atrophying chronic granulomatous dermohypodermitis' or a rare form of 'Maladie de Besnier-Boeck-Schaumann chalazodermique', but it is also possible that it is a new entity never described before.

We studied 130 specimens of nevus sebaceus of Jadassohn. All structures derived from the surface ectoderm were found to be affected in varying degree. Several different histologic patterns were discerned. The nosological position of nevus sebaceus is discussed, and it is concluded that nevus sebaceus is a hamartoma that involves both epithelial and non-epithelial elements of the skin.
The association of multiple tumors of the sebaceous glands with primary visceral carcinomas was described for the first time by Torre in 1967. Another 26 cases with similar features have been subsequently reported in the literature. In 12 of these patients isolated or multiple keratoacanthomas and in 8 intestinal polyps were also found. The authors add the report of a personal case. The patient is a 54-year-old man who, during a period of 8 years, has shown multiple sebaceous tumors, 1 keratoacanthoma, and 3 primary adenocarcinomas of the colon. The outline and nosologic position of this pathologic conditions are discussed.
Leiomyosarcomas primary in the skin and subcutaneous tissue are rare neoplasms. Metastatic leiomyosarcomas in general are exceptional. The authors present herein clinical, histopathological, and ultrastructural findings in a case of several metastases to the scalp and back from a leiomyosarcoma primary in the uterus.
A 70-year-old man with erythema elevatum diutinum developed new lesions on his right hand 4 years after initiation of treatment with dapsone. An unusual protruberant appearance of these lesions grossly and a peculiar fibrosing quality histopathologically of one lesion are features that, to our knowledge, have not been reported previously.
Cutaneous lesions resembling Kaposi's sarcoma may develop on legs and feet of patients with acral arteriovenous malformation. A case of this rare syndrome is reported and the main features of the 17 published cases are summarized in a table.
Twenty-four biopsy specimens of skin were taken from 23 patients with several types of lesions of secondary syphilis. In macular and maculopapular lesions, the histological changes were not specific. No or few plasma cells were observed in specimens at this stage. In early papular lesions, the histological appearance was more diagnostic. A lymphohistiocytic bandlike infiltrate was present in the upper part of the dermis and extended around blood vessels of the deep plexus. In nearly two-thirds of the cases, plasma cells were present in early papular lesions. The epidermis, too, was frequently involved in these lesions of the disease. In late papular lesions, the pathologic features were distinctive. The infiltrate was dense, diffuse, and, in some instances, nearly completely plasmocytic. In nummular syphilides, many neutrophils were present in a hyperplastic epidermis, whereas in corymbiform lesions, the epidermis was not involved at all.
A case of adult self-healing histiocytosis, classified as generalized eruptive histiocytoma, is reported. Ultrastructural investigation of the cytoplasm of tumor cells revealed the presence of many dense and laminated bodies. The origin and possible importance of these bodies are described and discussed, and the need for quantitative study of cytoplasmic markers in histiocytic proliferations of the skin is emphasized.
A large number of dermal cells engaged in collagen phagocytosis were observed in a case of multicentric reticulohistiocytosis. These cells apparently start to engulf collagen by deep invaginations of the plasma membrane. Fusion of phagosomes containing the engulfed collagen with vesicles probably originating from the Golgi apparatus would give rise to secondary lysosomes. The process of collagen degradation leads to the appearance of fine fibrils and myelin bodies. The presence in the dermis of unusually thick collagen fibers might contribute to this process which appears to occur only under particular physiological and pathological conditions.
The AA. have compared a new medium for the selective isolation of Neisseria gonorrhoeae (the Modified New York City - M.N.Y.C.) with the classic Thayer-Martin medium (T.U.). The study has been carried out on 490 patients of the Center for Venereal Diseases of the University of Milan. Neisseria gonorrhoeae has been isolated in 31% of cases on M.N.Y.C. and in 27% on T.M. On the M.N.Y.C. medium the growth has been much more rapid and luxuriant. No culture has ever been found to be positive on T.M. and negative on M.N.Y.C. On the M.N.Y.C. medium the bacterial contamination and the growth of yeasts was noted to be less frequent, in particular on cultures from female patients.
