Sensitivity of Neisseria gonorrhoeae to spectinomycin and thiamphenicol.

Between 1966 and 1978 the sensitivities of strains of Neisseria gonorrhoeae (70-80 strains in each year) to penicillin, thiamphenicol, and spectinomycin were tested. For penicillin the proportion of less sensitive strains increased from 21% in 1976 to 41% in 1978 and for thiamphenicol from 10% to 18% over the same period. All the strains proved to be sensitive to spectinomycin. A significant correlation in the degree of sensitivity was observed between penicillin and thiamphenicol but not between penicillin and spectinomycin.

[Identification of Chlamydia trachomatis in cell culture (author's transl)].

The method for the identification of Chlamydia trachomatis in tissue culture described by Hobson was slightly modified and tested as to its usefullness for routine-diagnostic. Cervical swabs of 74 prostitutes and 100 unselected gynecological outpatients were examined for Chlamydia trachomatis. The isolation of Chlamydia was carried out by McCoy cell culture; the inclusions were identified by Giemsa and Lugol's train procedure. The isolation rate of Chlamydia trachomatis was 17% in the group of the prostitutes, whereas in the group of unselected women no Chlamydia were detected. The correspondence of our findings with previous results indicates the applicability of the method used.

[Genital chlamydia infections].

Cylamydia are bacteria. The serotypes D-K cause 40% of nongonococcal urethritis and 60-70% of postgonococcal urethritis. Chlamydia can be detected in 60% of women with hypertrophic cervicitis. The isolation of Chlamydia trachomatis is carried out in cell culture. For treatment tetracyclines, erythromycin and sulfonamides are suggested.

[Simultaneous therapy of gonorrhea with penicillin and probenecid. Serum penicillin picture].

19 patient received penicillin and probenecid. The resulting serum concentrations of penicillin was determined. In regimen I 4 mill. IU depot penicillin was given i.m. simultaneously with 1 g probenecid orally. In regimen II probenecid was given 30 min prior to the administration of penicillin. In both series the average serum concentrations of penicillin were not significantly different (p = 0.01).

[Effect of a corticosteroid additive on the result of local therapy of bacterial superinfection in tinea pedis intertriginosa].

Sixty cases of tinea pedum intertriginosa were topically treated in a double-blind trial. In 34 cases a cream was used, which contained 5-chloro-8-hydroxyquinoline, gentamycin and fluprednyliden-21-acetate. In 26 cases a cream was used, which contained 5-chloro-8-hydroxyquinoline and gentamycin alone. Treatment was continued over three weeks. In weekly intervalls mycological, bacteriological and clinical controls were performed, which showed that the steroid-component had no disadvantageous effect on the course of infection. In contrast the steroid containing preparation proved to be slightly superior.

Investigations on antibacterial activity of cefazedone against Neisseria gonorrhoeae.

The sensitivity of 67 strains of Neisseria gonorrhoeae isolated from 1977 to 1978 were tested against the new cephalosporin derivative (6R,7R)-7-(2-[3,5-dichloro-4-oxo-1(4H)-pyridyl]-acetamido)-3-([(5-methyl-1,3,4-thiadiazol-2-yl)-thio]methyl)-8-oxo-5-thia-1-azabicyclo[4,2,0]oct-2-ene-2-carboxylic acid (cefazedone, Refosporen). All strains including three penicillin-resistant beta-lactamase producing Neisseria were sensitive at a range of 0.0078 to 2.0 micrograms/ml cefazedone.
