[Oxyphenisatin-induced liver disease (author's transl)].

Over a period of 18 months the development of hepatitis after intake of oxyphenisatin, a laxative, was established in 14 patients by re-exposure to the drug. The characteristic feature was nonspecific upper abdominal pain up to colic-like pain, lact of appetite, nausea or vomiting, and pruritus. The biochemical changes were those of chronic hepatitis with varying severity of biliary stasis and abnormal immunofluorescence. On re-exposure there was a particularly remarkable rise in GLDH activity. The histological picture showed acute inflammatory changes in the biliary passages on re-exposure, while the liver cells were clearly involved only secondarily. At a latter point the histological picture became non-specific. At laparoscopy there were different stages of minor periportal hepatic fibrosis to marked postnecrotic liver scars with portal hypertension and decompensation. Early diagnosis is difficult but crucial to the patient's fate, because this form of hepatitis regresses completely after oxyphenisatin has been stopped. Laxatives containing this drug should be withdrawn from the market.

[Results of physical therapy of peripheral arterial circulatory disorders (VI). Present position of the results in the Steglitz Hospital, Berlin].

103 patients with peripheral arterial circulatory disorders of Fontaine's type II were divided into 3 comparable groups and subjected to physiotherapeutic interval training three times a week for 7-8 weeks and 10-12 weeks respectively (Groups I and II) and Group III to similar intensive therapy five times a week for 6-7 weeks. In this way, the therapeutic success could be compared in 2 groups for the same length of time (Groups I and III) and with regard to the number of treatments (Groups II and III). The intensive therapy Group III, with a mean increase in walking distance of 79.2% and a success rate of 77.1% showed the best therapeutic efficiency compared with Group II (64.0% and 81.0%), which had to be treated for a considerably long time. The result s of Group I (50.3% and 68.7%) are considerably worse for the same treatment time as Group III.

[The radiological diagnosis of ulcer recurrence following drainage operations (author's transl)].

Organ preserving operations for treatment of duodenal ulcers are being more widely used. Amongst the possible late post-operative complications, one must reckon with ulcer recurrence. The radiological diagnosis of a recurrent ulcer after pyloroplasty is usually difficult. An accurate knowledge of the type of drainage operation is necessary. The typical radiological findings are demonstrated in 11 cases. The localization of the ulcer niche and stenosis in the drainage territory is considered of particular significance.

Results of long-term storage of stallion semen frozen by the pellet method.

Stallion semen frozen by the pellet method showed no significant loss of sperm motility and fertility over long periods of storage in liquid nitrogen. Eighteen of thirty mares conceived after insemination with semen recovered in nine ejaculates from seven stallions and stored for 18 months to 7 years.
