[Industrial hygienic complex examinations of places of employment of elderly workers in telecommunication technics].

Authors examinated conditions on 76 places of employment of elderly women by means of a screening methode, an estimated findings in comparison to design standards under consideration of special aspects of aged workers. In regard of work organization, physic strain, demands to sense organs and the exposition of environment factors conditions were acceptable. Imperfections in plase dimensions, lighing and laps organization induced 139 detailled straffs. Directions of the examinated enterprise till now many things improved in conformity with this study.

[131-I cholesterol (19-C) in the functional and localization diagnosis of adrenal cortex disorders].

Results are reported of quantitative adrenal scintigraphy with 131I-cholesterol in 8 patients with normal adrenal function before and after ACTH-stimulation and cortisol-suppression respectively, in one case with an adrenal metastasis from a pulmonary cancer, in two cases with Cushing's disease and in 7 cases with Conn's disease. In normal cases and in patients with M. Cushing a diagnosis of adrenal cortical function is possible with this method but can usually be replaced by more specific biochemical studies of serum and urine. The scintigraphic method is in addition of value in localization studies and can in unequivocal cases replace the selective adrenal phlebography. In patients with M. Conn increased uptake values (bilateral adrenal cortex hyperplasia) as well as reduced or non-detectable uptakes were observed, one of these cases suffering from a cortex carcinoma with M. Conn.

[Comparative study of 2 groups of paranoid syndromes appearing at different ages].

Clinical study of two groups of females beyond age of 65, institutionalized for delusional manifestations of schizophrenic nature and presenting also, at the time of examination, a pronounced paranoid state. In the first group: the manifestations had arisen before the age of 45. In the second group, after the age of 65. This study has demonstrated certain psychopathological characteristics suggesting the presence of personality problems definitely more profound in patients of the first group: autistic state, asthenia, thought disorder, incoherence and vagueness of delusional subjects, ordinarily much more unreal are characteristics of the first group in comparison to the second. This seems to bring evidence that these two paranoid states (paranoid schizophrenia in adult age and paranoid state in senility) are, at first sight, pathological entities based on personality problems of very different intensity.

[Researches for the planning of measures of working places of old people (author's transl)].

Within ergonomic complex-analyses which aimed at registering, valuing and optimising the working-conditions of elderly female workers in a large factory for telecommunication technics. 75 sitting workplaces were in detail examined as regarding the anthropometric measurements. Only the third of the working-places were constructed in the anthropometrically best possible way. A wrong construction was found in the case of working-height in 45 per cent, in the case of working-seats in 46,5 per cent, in the case of led-space in 30 per cent and in the case of operating-space for the hands in 22 per cent of the work-places. The results of the analysis led to 103 suggestions for changes, which are now to a large extend being put into practive in the course of complex measures of rationalization.

[Bilateral measurement of peripheral venous pressure: an additional test in the diagnosis of postthrombotic syndrome].

1123 measurements of peripheral venous pressure were performed on 587 patients with a tendency towards swelling in the legs. In 93 the measurements raised suspicion of obstruction to deepvein flow, confirmed by phlebography in 91, i.e. correct positive diagnosis by venous pressure measurements in 97.8%. In 57 patients with normal venous pressure measurements but clinical suspicion of deep-venous thrombosis, phlebography always confirmed the venous-pressure measurements, which are thus superior to routine clinical examinations.

Use of formalin-fixed melanoma cells for the detection of antibodies against surface antigens by a micro-immune adherence technique.

Established malanoma cell lines were fixed in suspension with 4% formalin and tested for antigenic activity against sera from melanoma patients in a micro-immune adherence test. By incubation of formalin-fixed cells in serum-free medium the unspecific background rosette formation was substantially reduced to below 10%. As could be demonstrated in absorption experiments with viable and formalin-fixed tumor cells, surface antigens reacting with sera from melanoma patients are largely unaffected by formalin treatment.

[Vascular surgery and patient stress tolerance with reference to anesthesia (author's transl)].

This paper lists the factors that affect the stress tolerance of patients undergoing surgery. Hypertonicity is observed in 64 percent of these patients, and signs of depleted coronany supply in 82.5 percent. The stress tolerance can be tested before surgery by means of gas analyses and determination of the minute volume and the pulmonary arterial pressure. During surgery, circulatory crises occur due to occlusion and release of large arterial branches. The anesthetic technique must be selected with due consideration of the increased risk. After surgery the oxygen consumption is increased, which lays heavier demands on the myocardial performance.
