The authors report the action of different antibodies of complete or incomplete type on the electrophoretic mobility of red-blood cells. They try to explain the results in terms of physicochemical stability. They make a distinction between three main possible classes concerning the mechanisms of action: a. direct diminution of the Zeta potential due to the antibody which in this case, is agglutinant. b. diminution of electrocinetic potential by "etching" of ionized groups responsible of the charge. To this mechanism, we could link the increase of the ionic force. c. Artificial increase of the dielectric constant by macromolecules.
The authors attempt to study the presence of subgroups of the phenotype A on lymphocytes and platelets with the help of liquid phase electrophoresis. The results show that anti-A of B serum reduces the electrophoretic mobility of red cells, platelets and lymphocytes of group A but leaves unchanged the mobility of group O or B cells. The same variations are observed in red cell lymphocytes and platelets. The authors suppose that the distribution of antigenic sites is identical in these elements.

Risk factors were analyzed in a group of 117 blood donors seropositive for hepatitis C virus antibody. One risk factor, at least, was found in 63 (53.8%) subjects. Frequently encountered risk factors were 1) travels in developing countries (31/117); 2) blood transfusions (20/117); 3) health care works (10/117); 4) intravenous drug addiction (8/117); 5) homosexual or multiple heterosexual contacts (3/67). Our study emphasizes the high percutaneous transmission of hepatitis C in contrast with the low sexual transmission. No risk factor could be found in 54 (46.2%) of the 117 seropositive subjects: the route of transmission in these cases is an intriguing issue which certainly deserves further epidemiological investigations.
The efficacy of zoster immunoglobulin in prophylaxis of varicella and herpes zoster is reported by many authors. The screening for zoster's antibodies is performed in the blood donor population and in persons convalescing from herpes zoster. The results show that 25 per cent of blood donors and 83.5 per cent of convalescents, respectively, have CF antibody titer of l6. Varicella zoster immunoglobulin prepared by alcohol fractionation has a fluorescent antibody titer of 1,024 and a CF antibody titer of 512. These results are discussed and compared with those of the literature.
