[Glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase activity in various organs of rats on high fat diets].

This paper deals with investigations on the activity of glucose-6-phosphat dehydrogenase (G6-P-GH), a key enzyme of HMP Shunt in erythrocytes, kidney, adrenal cortex, testes and adipose tissue of rats fed a high-fat diet (50% fat), in comparison with 3% fat diet as control animals. In erythrocytes, kidney and testes no significant differences of enzyme activity were observed. The number of erythrocytes and haematocrit value were also no different. The haemoglobin level was significantly elevated. In adrenal cortex and in mesenterial adipose tissue significantly lowered activity of G6P-DH is observed. These data are comparised with former studies in liver of high-fat diet rats and with literature data from adipose patients.

[Anticoagulant activity of triiodinated x-ray opaque media (author's transl)].

The anticoagulant activity of the triiodinated X-ray opaque media iodipamide, iothalamate and diatrizoate on standardized normal human pool plasma was investigated in vitro. We found a dose dependent lengthening of the thrombin time, the reptilase time and the partial thromboplastin time together with a dose dependent drop of the calcium thromboplastin and factor V activity. Iodipamide proved to exert the most pronounced anticoagulant activity of the 3 contrast media tested. The results are interpreted as latent disseminated intravascular coagulation with hyperfibrinolysis following the direct interaction of contrast media with the coagulation enzymes.

[On the effect of iodine containing opaque media on erythrocyte acetylcholinesterase (author's transl)].

Clinical symptoms of side effects by iodinated opaque media are approximately similar to those caused by inhibition of acetylcholinesterase. The inhibition of acetylcholinesterase of human erythrocytes was tested with the following opaque media in vivo and in vitro: adipiodonmeglumine, meglumine-iothalamate and sodium-iothalamate. Apparently there is no connection between opaque media induced incompatibility and the inhibition of acetylcholinesterase because 1. by the time maximal inhibition is reached most of the renally excreted opaque media has been eliminated, and because 2. a fairly rapid reversibility of the inhibition follows. For patients with congenital variants of acetylcholinesterase it could be of clinical consequence under succinyldicholinanaesthesia.

[Biochemical investigations of cancer cachexia: I. Tumour induced changes of glycogenolysis and gluconeogenesis of Walker carcinoma bearing rats (author's transl)].

Rats (weight 150-200 g) bearing Walker-carcinoma showed tumour size dependent hypoglycemia, diminished mobilization of glycogen following glucagon stimulation and elevated values of the enzyme activity of glucose-6-(P)-ase. A further hormonal stimulation of this enzyme activity towards the values observed in normal rats after betamethasone stimulation was not possible. The values of the enzyme fructose-1,6-di-(P)-ase in liver of tumour bearing rats equalled those found in normal controls and did not show any rise after application of betamethasone. The serum levels of free fatty acids did not show any difference between normal controls and tumour bearing rats, and displayed an equal rise after intensive stimulation of peripheral lipolysis.
