[Surgical anatomy of corneoscleral limbus].

A study of surgical dissection of the corneo-scleral limbus is described, using a comparison between per-operative photographical and histological slides of the same operative place. It confirms the discovery of the constitutive elements of the limbus when the lamellisation of the sclera is made very deep, in a supra ciliaris situation. This technique makes clear the exact place of the scleral spur as an essential surgical spot. Also it shows the disproportion existing between the diameter of the instruments made for Schlemm's canal catheterism and the size of the canal itself.

Ultrastructural apoptotic lesions induced in bone marrow after neptunium-237 contamination.

This study describes the ultrastructure of lesions induced by neptunium-237 (237Np), a by-product of uranium in nuclear reactors, in the bone marrow. A group of rats were given a single injection of 237Np-nitrate solution in order to observe the acute toxicity effects of this actinide. Electron microscopy was used to describe the different lesions. Observations included the swelling of the cell membrane, nuclear membrane lyses, abnormal chromatin condensation or nucleus convolution. These ultrastructural alterations of the nucleus and the cellular membrane appeared shortly after treatment. This study demonstrates the toxic effects of neptunium and its implication in the induction of apoptosis in bone marrow.

[Intratumoral blood pools and prognosis of malignant uveal melanoma treated with enucleation].

In a retrospective study about 59 globes enucleated because of a malignant melanoma, the presence of intratumoral blood lakes was recognized 18 times (30.5%). The construction of survival curves demonstrated this indicator to be statistically significant towards the prognosis. The other significant parameters were the cell type, the mitotic activity, the state of the sclera and the tumor volume. The relationships between these different factors were studied.

Primary endotheliosarcoma of the thoracic aorta.

A case of thoracic aortic endotheliosarcoma is reported. The diagnosis of an endothelial neoplasm was confirmed by ultrastructural study and the use of cell markers: Antigene VII, Antigene H and a Lectin: Ulex Europaeus 1. The macroscopic aspect was particular. There were buds on the aortic intima. The tumor growing along the intimal surface, had invaded and destroyed the vascular wall. There was a stenosis of the origin of the innominate artery and a total obstruction of the left subclavian artery.

[Farber's lipogranulomatosis. Apropos of a case].

A case of Farber's lipogranulomatosis is described in an 18 month-old girl. There was clinical evidence for diagnosis, which was confirmed by a ceramidase activity assay on cultured fibroblasts. A study of the conjunctiva by electron microscopy was performed. The authors emphasize the clinical and biological characteristics of such cases.
