[Problems of the two-stage restoration of flexor tendon injuries. I. Current results. Biological and functional factors affecting healing].

After describing the morphological and biological relations in the intact human flexor tendon and tendon sheat unit authors deal in details with the severe injuries of the flexor tendons inside the tendon sheat, having a bad prognosis. The results of the previous experimental investigations, and among them their own results, are reviewed. The success of the two-phase tendon transplantations in this kind of injury is determined, according to their opinion, beside the known clinically related factors, by biological and functional factors. Further examination of the complicated reparative processes with the use of modern methods of investigation is planned. The present work is ment for introduction of these experiments.

[Problems of the two-stage restoration of flexor tendon injuries. II. Light- and scanning electron microscopy studies of flexor tendon sheaths from hens and from humans].

Authors examined the normal flexor tendon/tendon sheat unit of the toes of the hen and in the zone Verdan 2 of the human hand with light and scanning electron microscope. The fine structure of the synovial membrane was studied with special care. It was found, in accordance with some previous literary data, that the morphology of the hen's and human tenosynovium resemble to each other. The structures of the parietal visceral synovial membranes are described and compared, and the mechanism of the secretion of the synovial fluid is discussed. The results of the present investigations may serve, over the description of the normal anatomical relations, as a comparison to other experiments of two-phase tendon transplantations with the formation of pseudo tendon sheats and also for clinical practice.

[Biological and functional factors in 2-stage flexor tendon reconstruction].

After a review of the morphological and biological relationship of the intact human flexor tendon-sheath unit, the authors discuss injuries of the flexor tendon. They summarize research to date, including their own results. In their opinion, the success of two-stage tendon grafting used in the treatment of such injuries, apart from the known clinical factors, also depends on biological and functional factors.

Immunopathological study on palmar aponeurosis in Dupuytren's disease.

The authors examined the immunological and immunohistochemical alterations of palmar aponeurosis in Dupuytren's contracture. In the IgG-content no difference were found between the intact and diseased aponeurosis. The mean of IgA content was 2 fold, the IgM content 3 fold higher in Dupuytren's aponeurosis than in normal ones. The immunoglobulin containing cells localised around the Dupuytren's nodules and in fibrotic, but not nodular parts of aponeurosis. Extracellular immunoglobulin deposits were not found.

Fine structural alterations of the palmar aponeurosis in Dupuytren's contracture. A combined scanning and transmission electronmicroscopic examination.

The authors examined the fine structural alterations of palmar aponeurosis in Dupuytren's contracture. Two types of the fibroblasts can be identified: classic fibroblasts and myofibroblasts. In the Dupuytren's tissue one fourth of all non-inflammatory cells were regarded as myofibroblasts. In the Dupuytren's aponeurosis the orientation of the thin and thick collagen fibers varied. The Paccini corpuscles were hypertrophised and around them compact collagen tissue was increased.

Failure of injection of rat placental lactogen to inhibit prolactin in vivo.

In an attempt to demonstrate a negative feedback of rat placental lactogen (rPL) on prolactin secretion, pregnant rats were hysterectomized and injected intraperitoneally with placental extracts. Hysterectomy alone prolonged the incidence of nocturnal prolactin surges and injection of placental extracts did not alter this response. However, the absence of rPL in the serum following the injections indicated a primary reason why no inhibition was seen. Only when rPL was given intravenously was there detectable amounts found in the blood. The slow disappearance of rPL from the circulation following hysterectomy in Day 11 pregnant rats suggests that the lack of rPL in the blood following ip injection of placental extracts is not due to rapid clearance of rPL from blood. The failure to show a negative feedback of rPL on prolactin in vivo may be due primarily to the lack of appearance of rPL in the circulation following an ip injection of placental extracts.

Estimation of zinc and other trace elements in the nails of Hungarian adult twin pairs by neutron activation analysis.

Nail samples of 157 adult Hungarian twin pairs were examined for different trace elements by neutron activation analysis. Comparing the within-pair-concordance for zinc contents of the twins of different zygosity, a much higher concordance in monozygotes than in dizygotes was observed. The authors suggest the idea that the zinc content in the human organism, at least in some organs, may be genetically controlled.
