Surgical treatment of thoracic aneurysm in a hemodialysis-dependent patient: a case report.

A 53-year-old woman who was on hemodialysis underwent the resection of an aneurysm of the descending thoracic aorta as well as graft replacement. The operation was performed with the aid of femoro-femoral bypass perfusion and an artificial kidney inserted on the venous side of bypass line. Although the perfusion time was short, the uremic metabolic substance was efficiently removed, resulting in easy management after surgery.

Skin lesions during intravenous hyperalimentation: zinc deficiency.

Of 54 patients who received prolonged intravenous hyperalimentation during the past 4 years, six developed progressive, characteristic skin lesions. These cutaneous manifestations frequently were accompained by abdominal symptoms resembling those of acrodermatitis enteropathica in many respects. In the first four of these six patients, skin eruptions disappeared promptly after the initiation of oral feeding, which led us to assume that these skin manifestations are due to some unknown nutrient deficiency. Our experience in the remaining two patients enabled us to presume the underlying pathology to be zinc deficiency.

Hemangioma of the liver. Diagnosis with combined use of laparoscopy and hepatic arteriography.

A case of hepatic hemangioma is reported in which preoperative diagnosis, with the combined aid of serial selective hepatic arteriography and laparoscopy, was necessary. The patient underwent right hepatic lobectomy after extensive extrahepatic individual ligations with no severe postoperative complications. The combined use of selective hepatic arteriography and laparoscopy is emphasized as essential for the correct diagnosis of hepatic hemangioma.

[An analysis of individual differences in reading abilities of the partially sighted children (author's transl)].

The purpose of present study was to analyze the intra- and inter- individual differences in reading abilities of the partial-sighted children. The Ss, consists of 79 normal-sighted children and 20 partial-sighted ones, were given 20 tests by the E. In order to analyze the intra-individual differences by the ratio of individual scores obtained, T scores were converted into Z scores after obtaining each T score of 20 tests. The partial-sighted were significantly inferior to the normal-sighted in 7 tests. By both cluster analysis and Q-technique, the clusters were found to be unstable in terms of the discrimination of the partial-sighted from the normal sighted. 2 groups, however, were completely discriminated by the method of multiple correlation coefficient of which ratio was .839.
