240 patients with soft chancre who have been observed within a year dating from March 1976 at the University Dermatological Clinic of Istanbul are presented. The clinical findings encountered in our cases are presented and the therapeutic results are discussed.

This study was undertaken to determine the effectiveness of a single 2.5-g dose of thiamphenicol as therapy for gonococcal infection and to compare the results obtained in a limited group of male and female patients to those reported by other investigators. Diagnosis was determined by direct microscopy and culture. Cure was defined as the abolishment of symptoms in males and disappearance of microscopic evidence of gonococci in females. Follow-up examination was not performed. Of the 28 males and five females treated, 30 (90.9%) experienced relief of symptoms according to the criteria given above. These results are compatible with those reported for other drug regimens.

An-25-year-old primigravida with bilateral phaeochromocytomas was managed from 6 weeks' gestation until 2 years following combined caesarean section and removal of adrenal tumours. Preoperative alpha-blockade was achieved by oral prazosin without deleterious effects. Intraoperative management comprised neuroleptanalgesia, arterial and pulmonary pressures monitoring, adequate heart loading with fluid replacement and sodium nitroprusside. Postoperatively mother and baby remained normotensive.
