[The functional topography of the digestive enzymes in the gastrointestinal tract and in nondigestive organs (liver, kidney) in the ontogeny of rats and the effect of inducing agents].

Activities of the digestive enzymes (lactase, maltase, saccharose, di-, tri- and aminopeptidases, alkaline and acid phosphatase) in the gastrointestinal tract, the kidney and the liver in one-day-old and adult rats as well as in 10-day-old rats after injections of hydrocortisone (H) or thyroxine (T4) were determined. On the basis of the results obtained it is summarized that (1) high levels of the digestive enzyme activities are observed in the nondigestive organs in immature and adult rats; (2) H induces the enzyme activities in the small intestine more than in other organs; T4 does not influence the activities of the most of enzymes studied both in the digestive and in the nondigestive organs; (3) high activities of a number of enzymes in the colon in one-day-old rats implies its involvement in the digestion at early stages of the ontogenesis.

[Specific dynamic action of food in obese patients].

Certain features of the body hormonal system participation in the realizing of the specific dynamic action of food (SDAF) were studied in 26 patients with exogenous constitutional obesity. The radioimmunoassay was used to estimate the levels of a number of hormones (gastrin, insulin, glucagon, triiodothyronine, thyrotrophin, adrenocorticotrophin and hydrocortisone) in the peripheral blood of the patients on an empty stomach (the basal level) and 1,2 and 4 hours after food protein intake. The control group consisted of 20 normal subjects. It has been shown that SDAF is a complex process of changing from the state of hunger to satiation that involves many regulatory components, both nervous and humoral. The study of the features of the SDAF development in health and disease presents valuable information on the mechanisms of metabolic disorders in the body in varying pathologic states including obesity.

[Regulatory properties of digestive enzymes and the biology of multiple substrate digestive processes].

Characteristics of functional organization and autoregulation of natural polysubstrate digestion in various animals are largely defined by regulatory properties of the enzymes ensuring membrane digestion. This has been demonstrated for both the animals which are at different evolutional levels and those specialized for different types of food. The effective organization of the digestive and transport processes in time and space is provided by an interaction of food substances at the stage of membrane digestion.
