Vegetating iododerma with underlying systemic diseases: report of three cases.

Three patients with vegetating iododerma as a result of potassium iodide therapy are presented. The first patient had polyarteritis nodosa, the second had monoclonal gammopathy of undertermined significance, and the third had multiple myeloma. Vegetating iododerma probably represents an idiosyncratic response to iodides; patients with polyarteritis nodosa and paraproteinemias may be predisposed.

Neutrophilic eccrine hidradenitis in two neutropenic patients.

Neutrophilic eccrine hidradenitis is an uncommon, self-limited dermatosis with a variable clinical presentation. It seems to be due to chemotherapeutic drugs in most cases. Necrosis of the eccrine gland associated with a neutrophilic infiltrate is the histologic hallmark of this disease. We report two additional cases in neutropenic patients with acute myelogenous leukemia in which there was a striking lack of neutrophil infiltration. A new term, drug-associated eccrine hidradenitis, is suggested.

Immunotactoid glomerulopathy associated with mycosis fungoides.

A patient with mycosis fungoides developed a nephrotic syndrome. Renal biopsy revealed deposits of a highly organized fibrillar material which did not stain with the typical amyloid stains; this picture was consistent with the diagnosis of non-amyloidotic fibrillary glomerulopathy or immunotactoid glomerulopathy. We believe this is the first case reported of immunotactoid glomerulopathy associated with mycosis fungoides. Possible pathogenetic implications are discussed with reference to previous publications.

Fish viral infections in northwest of Spain.

During a three years survey, a total of 149 samples from 20 farms of rainbow trout, salmon and turbot were examined for the presence of virus with the purpose to study the viral infections affecting cultured fish and their incidence in the fishfarms of Northwestern Spain. Infectious pancreatic necrosis virus (IPNV) was the only viral agent isolated from salmonid fish. Fry and fingerlings of trout showed the highest infection rate (24%). This virus was not detected in broodstock or embryonated eggs, although it was isolated from ovaric and seminal fluids and from juvenile carriers. From 24 samples of salmon analyzed, IPNV was only detected in one sample of juveniles. Examination of turbot led the isolation of a new virus belonging to the reoviridae family, which affected to the ongrowing population. All of the IPNV tested belonged to serotype Sp regardless of the origin of the trout stocks. During the monitorization of imported embryonated eggs, no virus was detected from any of the samples. However, in some case, IPNV was isolated when testing the fry obtained in our laboratory from those samples of imported eggs. Our findings indicate that: i) the analysis of fingerlings increase the probability to detect viral infections allowing us an optimal control of importations, and ii) most of the viral infections of fish take place in the own fish farms. The detection of mixed viral and bacterial infections emphasize the importance of carrying out an integral microbiological analysis to determine the causal agent(s) of fish mortalities.

[Sea-blue histiocytes in a patient with mycosis fungoides].

The syndrome of the sea-blue histiocyte is a multisystemic infiltration by a special kind of macrophages which contain a ceroid material within its cytoplasm. We report herein a patient with mycosis fungoides, hyperlipidaemia type IIB and sea-blue histiocytes on bone marrow. Moreover, the cutaneous histopathology showed focus of eosinophilic spongiosis, that have not been previously described in mycosis fungoides, as far as we know.

[Dyshidrosiform pemphigoid].

We report herein a new case of dyshidrosiform pemphigoid. Although vesiculo-bullae on palms or soles are frequent components of bullous pemphigoid, they are rare as a presenting phenomenon. In our opinion, dyshidrosiform pemphigoid should not be regarded as a distinctive form of localized pemphigoid.
